  1. There are no cards that I know of, but have you looked into Math-U-See?
  2. We're planning on attending our very first convention next month in Memphis. I'm curious as to what everyone does with their kids during the convention. We are local, so the kids will be with us most of the time, or else one of will stay home with them. Dh has taken half a week off work to be able to attend/baby sit. I've read before that people do take their kids, so what do you do with them during lectures? Do they sit quietly () and listen? My littles could sit for an hour, but all day??? What about seating room? Any help in figuring this out would be most welcome. I am so VERY excited about this. I can't wait until they finally post the schedule!

  4. We use Mind Benders and plan to continue using them next year in 4th. I have seen a BIG change in the way she approaches her math! Now, she says, "I just used logic to figure it out!"
  5. Keep up with the ETC. You will be glad. We stopped after book 7. We used HOP and love it. Growing with Grammar has been a good fit for us. I can't say enough good things about All About Spelling. hth
  6. We love AAS, but in this situation, I might look to Spelling Workout. The older editions have the sports theme.
  7. We love AAS here. It really has made my dd slow down and think the words through.
  8. We are going to be reading aloud The Canterbury Tales retold by Geraldine McCaughrean. I had originally thought to read the whole book, but now I think I'd prefer to just read a few. Does anyone have suggestions for which stories we should cover, or do you think we should just buckle down and read the whole thing? We're starting the middle ages today, the goal is to finish the entire history cycle by Sept. 2012. This has been the first school year we've actually gotten history done. GO US!!! As always, all advice is welcome! thanks!
  9. I'm still in the "chemistry merry-go-round". If I get the instructors manual for NOEO chem I and the remainder of the books that I don't already own ... could we just do our own experiments (not using the kits)? How hard would that be to do? Does the tm spell out exactly which experiments to do and when (from either the kits or the experiment book?) I'm so tired of trying to decide on chemistry! I had decided to do WTM (the only thing we've ever done) and use Adventures with Atoms and Molecules, but I just wish there was more reading material. Or, I could just get those few books I don't already own from NOEO and try to do something with them .... HELP!!!
  10. If you don't own any .... I would suggest buying a "lot" on ebay. That's where I got my first few batches. We've got quite a few. Also, they are part of the 4 for 3 deal on Amazon. They are just such a great tool!
  11. Bob, Starfall, Nora Gaydos, Hooked on Phonics readers Starfall.com is great, but I purchased the readers also.
  12. Well .... ummm..... I still like them. Not telling how old though! :glare: My dd9 still likes them a lot. They are absolutely great.
  13. So, you did like the student text? That was what I was thinking of ordering, b/c it looked to be pretty good with the explanations. I really like the way that Adventures looks, simple yet effective. thanks again
  14. We moved on to AAS. A lot of it is/was review, but I've found that around here "reading a word" and "spelling a word" are two totally different animals.
  15. I was really hoping that RS4K would be a great "table reading" book for us. I did look at the DK Chem previews, but the couple of pages I saw looked pretty advanced, even though we have a bunch of the other eyewitness books. How did you use the DK book? If you had to do it over again, which books would you use and how? Thanks!
  16. What do you think about using RS4K pre-level 1 chemistry as our spine/read aloud book while doing the experiments and lab reports ala WTM with Adventures with Atoms and Molecules? (I've already have Aw/A&M - and I really like the simplicity of it.) Also, throwing the encyclopedia in there too. We really like reading science books at breakfast, but I've had a tough time finding quality/quantity books for Chemistry. I've got a few and we'll throw those in there too. I really want to be done with chem by September so I can start my then 4th grader on physics. We spent FOREVER on Earth science. What do you guys think? thanks!
