  1. First of all I am no expert .... but we had great success with Hooked on Phonics, ETC and Bob books all used together. I let HOP K and 1 set the course. We used the paper version of ETC. I cut the bind off the book and rearranged the book to go along with HOP. We had no problem doing this, except with a couple of the review sections which we just did towards the end. I believe it took ETC 1,2 and 3 to get through HOP K and 1. She would read which ever Bob book (along with the HOP books) that went along with the skill we were learning. This worked great until HOP2 and ETC 4 which didn't correlate with anything and we just threw caution to the wind and just kept going! :auto: Angela
  2. Thank you so much for responding! It looks like WWE2 is what I need to be looking at. thanks again Angela
  3. Can someone point me in the right direction to get more info about the ITBS? My dd is in 2nd grade. thanks Angela
  4. I'm trying to decide which level of WWE to purchase. My dd8 has never done dictation or formal narration. In fact we sometimes talk or go over what ever we have covered, but I've never made her "tell back" what we've read. KWIM? She has finally had the light bulb moment as far as reading is concerned and is beginning to made strides in that area, but I feel that she is still behind. Her strong point is handwriting and copywork. She has been copying whole paragraphs for over a year. I worry about dictation. When she has to write sentences (or words) she freezes. She is a prefectionist in this aspect, and she would rather not write anything than to write it and spell it wrong. So WWE1 or WWE2??? I hope this makes some sort of since, b/c I have the flu and can't think straight. thank you so much Angela
  5. Is there a place I can find a listing of these test along with a description? My dd is in 2nd grade. Our state does not require testing, but as a first time homeschooler, I'm really interested in finding out "where" we are academically. thanks Angela
  6. That was an awesome idea, but there's not one for a hundred miles of here. thanks Angela
  7. I know this is an older post but ... Where did you buy the table for your school rooms? I'm having trouble finding one affordable, yet sturdy. thanks Angela
  8. I do so much planning ahead, that I get bored with what we are doing now... b/c I've already been looking at it for a year! Angela
  9. We just started Growing with Grammar this past week. So far my dd8 is LOVING it. It reminds me of ETC, without the pics ... if that makes any sense. Angela
  10. I'm putting together our "required" reading list for next year (3rd grade).... WTM recommends these Stepping Stone Classics or Stepping Into the Classics books. The reviews on Amazon are terrible (mainly dealing with sentence structure). Does anyone have personal experience with these books? Thanks so much Angela
  11. I haven't really done any research on purchasing microscopes, but I was a Medical Microbiologist for ten years (so I know a little bit about what I like and don't like in a microscope). I'd say besides the strength of the scope itself, that having two eye pieces is hands down the most important thing to me. They are easier to focus and in general "see" with. JMO Angela
  12. A&D ointment seems to cure EVERYTHING at our house. Angela
  13. I always check Amazon.com before I buy anything. Lots of times things are cheaper on there than used on eBay. Angela
  14. Hi, Where are you located? b/c we like cookies and swimming. :001_smile: Angela
  15. We too are beating our heads over here on that same lesson!!!!
  16. So, do we just keep writing on the map all year, without erasing? Angela
  17. Hi, I would have posted this on the forum over at Sonlight, but I can't post and they are closed until Tuesday... Anyway, I just got Core 1 last week and will be starting tomorrow. I am really confused about the map activities. When I look at my schedule I see the little globe/map sign, but I'm not sure what to do. Do we pull out the markable map and write the city name on it or is there some worksheets I'm missing? I'm really confused about this. Any help would be wonderful! thanks so much Angela
  18. I know this is an old thread, but I was just wondering how this worked out for you? I'm considering it myself. thanks Angela
