  1. Dual enrollment is a great idea, as long as the student is asking to do it. The grades homeschoolers get at the community college are a very big factor with college acceptance. Make sure your kiddo is ready for it though. I've seen too many kids pushed into it and bomb. The kids that are clamoring for it do really well.
  2. My last baby was at 33. My cut off age was 40. I wanted more kids. I love kids. We are going to have more kids in our lives through foster care.
  3. You could have him evaluated - it won't be as accurate at 5 though. He may have anxiety or OCD, these can get worse over time if not treated. Is there anyone in your family that has these traits? Hereditary can be a factor.
  4. I agree 5 is very young. I think those structured activities are overrated at that age, too.
  5. Just to be fair all the GS troops I know about that are led by more conservative Christian people don't focus on Jesus. They are too busy having fun and earning badges, etc. :001_smile:
  6. I looked it up and you are right, Karen. I know though that we have troops that don't share funds and the council knows about it (I don't really care, myself).
  7. I know several GS troops that keep money raised with the girl.
  8. I'm so sorry. Praying for her precious family.
  9. I think teaching is a great idea. He wants to play. Should I encourage him to pursue a more classical instrument? His social skills are not great due to adhd/aspergers. I worry about this kid a lot, but I think I need to start focusing more on his skills and gifts.
  10. Guitar, mandolin, piano, accordian. Really if there is an instrument he picks it up and takes off with it. His may be moving past his current teacher now as well. What is a conservatory? I am woefully uneducated when it comes to music. :(
  11. He currently plays 4 instruments. Plays in worship team at church. Can play by ear and reads notes - has perfect pitch. He really is extremely gifted in music and thinks outside the box. He is adhd with aspergers tendencies. Very creative in the tortured soul kind of way. LOL He wants to be a musician and tour someday. He loves history along with music. I'll be honest and say that touring with a band somewhere has never been my dream for any of my kids. If he makes that choice later that is fine, until then how should I direct/guide him? I'm thinking college, etc. He had one teacher that felt he would be a great conductor. I'm not overly musical, and really have no idea how to guide him at this point besides making sure he has a good education hitting all the core subjects.
  12. I planned all my oldest son's school through high school when he was in 7th or 8th grade. I like to have a plan. We did not follow it all. My ds started running start his junior year instead. I pretty much have the same plan for my other kids, but already we are deviating from it for better things. It all works out. :)
  13. Yep, no one wants "difficult" written in their file.:lol::lol:
  14. We ripped out the carpet in the main area and put in tile. It took forever to potty train our small dog. She is trained now. We put up a gate to the carpeted area of the house. If someone leaves the gate open she is quick to run over there and poop and pee (stupid dog). Our cats sometimes have hairballs or vomit and they do shed. I wish we could tear out the carpet in the rest of the house. Our only answer is no long curtains, lots of vacuuming, and clean the carpet regularly. Along with having 4 kids and a hard-working dh it is hard to have nice stuff. I have tile the color of our local dirt and leaves, the furniture is beige and I scotchguarded the snot out of it. I have thick plastic on my wood kitchen table to keep it nice and easy to wash. You really have to kid/animal proof your house and then keep it up. I love my people and animals. I don't have the house beautiful I would prefer, but its not so bad when everything is very durable and washable. I do have to replace my main couches more often than most, but that is the life I have. :) ETA: We do get the dog shaved a few times a year to cut down on shedding and she is a short-hair. We also have to shave the long-haired cats butt/pantaloons for hygiene.
  15. Isn't Andrew old enough to choose for himself now? I don't understand why your ex is filing this.
  16. No, they probably saved their own lives and ensured we were able to be born.
  17. I felt guilty, too, but more about the wasted resources. I thought I opted out of the catalog when I clicked something online last time I ordered. I'd rather not get it again.
  18. That is so wonderful! Have a great time!
  19. Chalkdust math, Teaching Textbook math, Apologia books, SOTW books/activity guides/audio books, Growing with Grammar, Teaching Company dvds - I've loved and used them all. They sell. I don't have much luck selling on WTM though. I sell other places.
  20. I wish we could invest our SS money instead. I didn't know you could opt back in. Interesting. :001_smile:
