  1. The best and craziest place we experienced was in Black Rock City, Nevada for the "Burning Man Festival". It's only there for a week or so, but oh my goodness what a week it is! https://www.google.com/search?q=lburning+man+festival&tbm=isch&ei=6VmrU7CECpCbqAbQioKADg#q=burning+man+festival&tbm=isch http://www.burningman.com/
  2. When dd took her first dance class the little girls got either a stamp on their hand or a sticker for good listening and behavior. I do think the small reward at the end helped keep some of the otherwise more active children attentive during class. Food as a reward though, I'd be inclined to offer another suggestion to the studio or teacher.
  3. Oh, I definitely think that different jobs require appropriate attire (such as outdoor home repair). I was thinking more in terms of going out in public.
  4. Our family subscribes to the idea "You only get one chance to make a first impression". You never know what the day will bring or who you'll meet along the way, so why not choose an outfit that looks put together? It takes the same time to grab a well fitting, stain free outfit (even less time to toss on a cute sundress) than the former mentioned frumpy look. If you don't have time or the inclination for make-up at least wear a smile, it's the best accessory you have! I do feel that one's sense of self worth is often perceived by others from their first impression of you (right or wrong as it may be). Sometimes in a young childs mind, when they feel that their mother doesn't care about themselves, they may correlate that into how could they have the ability to care about me? Yes it may just be cloths to some or the overall feeling of self worth to others, but I feel that the way we treat ourselves shows the world how we want to be percieved and treated in turn. Shallow maybe, but honest. All this from an extrovert if it makes a difference.
  5. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2014/06/10/map-at-least-74-school-shootings-since-newtown/?hpid=z3 Seeing a visual like this map really makes more of an impact on me than just numerical statics. This problem is truly a national tragedy.
  6. I get PMLE on each tropical vacation if I haven't been in the sun for a month or so. It is the worst feeling! I've found that a combination of tanning ahead of time, http://www.amazon.com/BUIN-Allergy-Lotion-Sensitive-SPF30/dp/B003ELEZS0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1402181164&sr=8-1&keywords=piz+buin+allergy and a prescription of low dose prednasone makes it so I don't break out in the tiny blisters or get the "bugs under my skin feeling" anymore. The combination has been amazing and vacation changing in such a good way!
  7. The best fare finder that I have found for commercial air is: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ Make sure to check the "See calendar of lowest fares" and set it for a range of dates and then put in something like 1-4 days (with the dash) and it will give you the lowest prices with those parameters. Sometimes staying an extra day can save you hundreds in airfare.
  8. In the summer, I really like the fresh citrus scent of Bliss' Grapefruit & Aloe body butter. I use it as an after sun lotion. https://www.blissworld.com/bliss-products/bliss-grapefruit-aloe-body-butter-67-oz/

  10. Our college sorority reunion is each summer, and high school reunions (every 5 years) are almost always around Thanksgiving as many people travel "home for the holiday". Both schools are in MA if it makes a difference.
  11. I try to live in the "here and now", focusing on today's pleasures and joy. Sure, I have future plans and obligations, but for the most part I focus on the enjoyment of each small moment. The way my coffee smells before I take a sip, the warmth of it in my throat, the way the smile spreads across my face as my daughter comes down the stairs to join us in the morning. Each single moment I try my best to consciously appreciate. This short video pretty much sums up my approach to life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8--IhxcQqJA&feature=share
  12. I highly recommend hypnobirth as well! Pain free (I still felt pressure) childbirth and a euphoric feeling through labor.
  13. ENFP married to a complete opposite ISTJ.
  14. My dd10 has done a few of the programs through SIG (Summer Institute for the Gifted). They are offered at college campuses throughout the country (Harvard, Yale, Berkley, Columbia, etc.) We love the academic focus, and having like-minded campers for her to be around. http://www.giftedstudy.org/ Edit: Here's the Emory University information in Atlanta, http://www.giftedstudy.org/Residential/emory/
  15. We've had good luck with the Bose brand. http://www.hammacher.com/Product/83337?promo=search For slightly less, our daughter has the pink Beats ones, and they have help up so far.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw9B49epS_M&feature=kp Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral (an Irish lullaby)
  17. We say drawers to rhyme with roars and doors.
  18. When you have children over for playdates do you talk to them? Maybe you could try "instructing" some simple arts and craft type activities the next time a group of children is over, or go over the rules to a game. As long as your co-op is set up for small group instruction, these might be small steps you take to transition into a larger teaching role. Best wishes!
  19. For the regional pronunciations, this NYT quiz was interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/12/20/sunday-review/dialect-quiz-map.html?_r=0
  20. It is customary here to tip massage therapists and other spa workers 20% based on the listed menu prices, not on the discounted or sale price. If I couldn't afford to tip, personally I wouldn't go.
  21. 5 hours really isn't that far away in the grand scheme of things. Does she have her own car if she wanted to come home for a weekend/ holiday or would you have to go get her each time? Or maybe there are other people to carpool with that she may already know or would meet? If she'd be happier at her #1 would that play a part in her situation? Good luck in your decision.
  22. It looks like the house is dark on Thursdays for Newsies. We typically use ticketmaster for advance purchases when heading into the city. http://www.ticketmaster.com/Newsies-tickets/artist/1675766
  23. We tip each day, as the staff could change throughout your vacation. As a family of 3 we typically tip (In local currency, but these are the average US equivalents): $5 for the day maid $5 for the mini-fridge re-stocker if staying all-inclusive (not the same person as the maid) $5 for turn down service maid
