  1. For my Leicestershire book I will be reading/ listening to A Daughter in Time by Josephine Tey because it’s all about Richard the 3rd. Amy and I expected Leicester to be hard back when we were planning the Brit Trip and decided that the Tey book will fit even if we discover it doesn’t visit Leicester when I reread it. I am going to try and convince Dh that he wants to visit the burial site museum this week https://kriii.com/about-the-centre/, since it’s new we haven’t been! A couple of other notes for Brit Tripping, Taylor’s does all of our Tower Bell servicing. Sadly they are pretty much the only choice now......it takes 6 months to get a new bell rope etc. They are made specifically for the tower and the bell. A local funny, people used to ask if we had visited Beaver Castle yet. We just said no because we couldn’t even find it. It’s Belvoir! Lol I finally made someone spell it for me!
  2. We have all the levels also. I didn’t discover it until dd was a junior but she was able to skip around a bit and use it for the books that were new to her. If we were able to have a do over I would have used it all four years.
  3. For the Brit Trippers and anyone else..... My neighbors returned home from their holiday near Whitby and brought home a favorite treat for dd and I, Yorkshire Bracken from a famous(in Yorkshire ?bakery). https://www.botham.co.uk/bakery/yorkshire-brack-bothams.html. I know it’s fruited cake which many of you are cringing over but trust me it’s really good! I looked around for the recipe and found this article with one that is close https://www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/lifestyle/food/overnight-yorkshire-tea-loaf and has some interesting pictures. The loaf dd and I just ate half of if filled with dried currents but I think other fruits could work well, raisins and dates particularly. I finished another Gloucester cozy, Stella Cameron’s Folly. I think I like this series better than the Rebecca Tope Cotswolds series but would happily read more of either.
  4. I just went outside and tried thanks to your reminder, no luck. Total cloud cover which other than missing the eclipse is super exciting. It might rain......our grass is brown, my flowers are pitiful. It rained a bit last night around 2am and I got up to look and I had a hedgehog scurrying through my yard. I think he was out celebrating!
  5. Oh no! I hope you find it or are able to reconstruct via Old BaW posts or Goodreads. Btw, my ipad has taken up random capitalization. As in Old not sure how to permanently fix, sometimes my temporary fixes don’t stick either, like now.
  6. I would make the appointment because whatever you have it isn’t healing normally. Have you used liquid bandages frequently or just this once for convenience due to odd location? The reason I ask is I discovered the hard way that I have a bad reaction to them that includes a taking months to heal wound even with medical care and antibiotics. Make sure you mention the liquid bandage at your appointment.
  7. Waving! Looking forward to having you back..... I have been on and off the buses so many times that I don’t know where I am either! I am still working on Edelweiss and need to have a look on Goodreads to see if I have made more progress for my notebook. Thanks for the review on Flatline. There are so many new to me paranormal series available that I will probably skip that one. ? How do you like the Peter Grant series books? @Violet Crown I believe I promised to listen to a Hardy the next time you were reading one. Which one is up next so I can hopefully source an audiobook. I am back to hand quilting....... @tuesdayschild Great job on all those boxes! Are you moving far? One good thing about my 200 yard move is I just sent the kids back and forth with laundry baskets with instructions like kitchen counter, your bed, etc. lol no taping required. I just finished my Gloucester book so I am on the bus currently. Malice in the Cotswolds by Rebecca Tope https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2465702689 was a really good cozy mystery. I believe @loesje22000 mentioned buying several of these while in England this summer. I definitely plan to read a few more! Nice and light ........
  8. I finished A Column of Fire early this morning. It wasn’t bad really, it simply didn’t live up to some pretty high expectations. ?. Here is a review I found that sums up my basic feelings http://www.historiamag.com/a-column-of-fire-by-ken-follett/. The truly modern slang occasionally intermixed was jarring. It wasn’t frequent but spoiled those sections because it took me out of the story. I have defended repeatedly the use of modern language in historical fiction but this book occasionally had me thinking that there was just not way they would be saying that! This book hit a large number of Brit Tripping places but I sort of forgot to write them down or highlight......Devonshire, Staffshire, York’s, Northumberland, London for sure. Many countries also including France, Spain, Belgium, Holland. I am using it for Devonshire........Part of a trilogy but could easily stand alone. Basically this book is about the Reformation using two fictional Kingsbridge boys and their rivalry to illustrate the story and make it Kingsbridge. Very little of this book actually takes place in Kingsbridge which was a disappointment. Many more characters but oddly no real character confusion which was quite an accomplishment. This book spans Mary Tudor’s decline through James and the Gunpowder Plot. The history is done well, I didn’t spot any real flaws beyond the fictional characters. Because this book was so chunky and spanned both the 16th and 17th century I am going to let myself count it for my 17th century Bingo Square. My next book Margaret the First will be completely in the 17th century but I need it for my Feminist Square. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25943007-margaret-the-first
  9. Yeah! I have missed you! How are you doing? It’s hot here and the curtains are shut, yuck! How is everyone else doing with the heat?
  10. I am still working on A Column of Fire by Ken Follett. It’s the third in his Pillars of the Earth, Kingsbridge, series and it is not as good as the others. I don’t care about some of the characters and am finding the sections focusing on them boring. I need to get it done because I have two other Tudor era books in my stack which will be due soon......only one Tudor book at a time! I finally have Murder on the Orient Express on audio. So far I have really enjoyed comparing it to the new movie.....do the descriptions match the movie characters etc. Not as well as they could but the storyline is being followed. I read a fluffy cozy yesterday. The First Lady Helena https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38589263-lady-helena-investigates. Apparently the first in a new series which reminded me of the Lady Emily series. It was OK. Several adult topics touched on, incest etc. Not super descriptive so fine for probably all the adults here but not for their 13yo daughters! ? This is a series I will continue reading if it is easily accessible......
  11. I am guessing tomato. So when you start adding back in take particular care to isolate them. Hugs!
  12. Another idea might be Discovery or NEM from the Singapore track which integrates geometry with Algebra. We used the LoF Geometry fwiw, my kids had but did not enjoy AoPS. ;)
  13. Practice Makes Perfect makes a great supplement for Duolingo. There are also some translation \writing groups on the internet that grew out of Duo's immersion which are great. I think it depends on the level you are aiming for and the kid.
  14. I am so glad you enjoyed both Woman in White and Death at Gallows Green. I can’t remember.......have you already read the Susan Wittig Albert Beatrix Potter series? I am looking forward to it after I finish the Robin Paige books......
  15. I vote for the Narnia IEW too! ? If math is going well at home I would not outsource unless it was to an inspired teacher.....your coop class doesn’t sound inspired. ? My kids really liked LoF geometry but it comes after Algebra 2 unlike many geography programs.
  16. I guess this means I need to try the Laundry Files because I have read and enjoyed all the series on the list. ? Looking forward to your review. I have looked at that series but haven't tried it yet! Faithr, Glad to see you! I am another retired home educator who hangs out here....... Gloucester is lovely. We used to attend a church located near Birmingham and would spend our afternoons exploring the Cotswolds. I will see if I have pictures that can be posted from one of my old Fires. Now books..........There appear to be several new to me options for series mystery books set in Gloucester. I have ended up checking out Stella Cameron's Folly and Rebecca Tope's Malice in the Cotswolds. I also have an Aunt Dimity and a book from Ann Granger's series on hold. I am currently reading Ken Follett's Column of Fire. It's the third book in the Pillars of the Earth series. So far it's not outstanding but at 150 pages of a 900 page book I suspect I am still reading backstory. It's a easy read so far and quickly.
  17. Definitely keep you curtains drawn all day. It helps but I find it depressing. My neighbors insist on not opening their windows during the day......we generally do because we need fresh air. Lots of fans if you have access to them as stores are probably sold out.
  18. I am so sorry. Sending hugs and prayers.
  19. Audiobooks......and television, I really prefer not to fall asleep to either because I tend to have some really upsetting dreams when I do. I had a really weird Poirot dream a few months ago while sleeping to a huge portion of Murder on the Links which definitely convinced me not to sleep to audiobooks! Wishing you well with your move. I hope your house completion work proves to be easier than anticipated. On the positive side you dc’s are old enough to be really useful! Our last move was only 200 yards so the dc’s ended up working hard carrying things between the houses. We promised ourselves no more moves at that time but are contemplating doing it again in a couple of years so I guess the trauma wears off. My holds all appeared in Overdrive at once. I have some great books including my Devonshire Brit Trip book finally! Before I get too envolved in my chunky, Tudor time frame, return to Knightsbridge I plan to finish a couple of my shorter kindle books. I am currently reading Linda Castillo’s latest https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36187085-a-gathering-of-secrets A Gathering of Secrets. This is a favorite mystery series for me which is set in Amish Ohio. No one would ever dare to call these cozy. The crimes are horrible but I really like the main character! I also finished Ruff Justice which I believe is the 22nd book in a cozy mystery series by Laurie Berenson. Standard Poodles are some of my favorite dogs and this series combines poodles with mysteries centered around the world of dog shows. This is a series I have read for years and it seems to be back on track after a couple of less than wonderful books.
  20. The big advantage for rice in my opinion is I can cook it and leave it for an hour after if I want to. I make a lot of quick stir fry dishes and I am frequently waiting for someone to walk in the door. I can do the rice ahead of time and it will be perfect when I want it.
  21. Thank you so much. I need to ask them. I suspect my son will because the whole field of anything computer is and always has been his dream. It’s always amazed me how incredibly kind and encouraging professionals in CS have been to my ds along the way. For my daughter the journey is just starting but she loved her Intro class and has definitely decided to continue. I don’t see a date for the next conference in Orlando....who knows maybe they will meet your hubby at the next one! ?
  22. I have to say this thread is enlightening.....both of my kids are getting Cybersecurity degrees. Right now they are both fascinated and loving it. eta...Dh is an actuary. Working remotely.
  23. Hugs, you have every right to feel overwhelmed currently. That’s a whole lot of change
