  1. My Dd liked the Tommy and Tuppence ones and Miss Marple best at that age. As a previous poster stated the earlier ones are going to be more appropriate generally. I am currently doing an Agatha Christie reread using this list http://www.read52booksin52weeks.com/p/agatha-christie-perpetual-challenge.html that Robin at BaW has on her website. I just finished Partners in Crime which my Dd loved at 11. She also loved the Seven Dials.....both are quite meh now that I am not desperately hunting for preteen reading material. Lol Nothing in my reread sticks out as hugely inappropriate so far........ Dd also enjoyed a few from Patricia Wentworth’s Miss Silver series and Anna Katherine Green https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1940880.The_Leavenworth_Case which were kindle freebies. Both authors were Christie contemporaries sort of. Anna Katherine Green is author who Christie is thought to have gotten the idea for Markle from.
  2. Kathy, My condolences to your family. Hugs!
  3. Congratulations!!! To Robin, John, and James! The pictures are lovely. The smaller ceremony looks like the perfect fit for him. Love that great big smile! Overdrive.....our family (me lol) can have 10 checkouts and 20 holds. I love the hold limit being high. Several books stay on hold being taken on and off suspension frequently. Sometimes I even get it right! I finished In Prior’s Wood this morning and enjoyed it. I think it’s the seventh in GM Malliot’s Max Tudor series which is one of my favorites. It is set in fictional England with a wonderful swoon worthy former MI 6 agent for a vicar. If someone decides to try this series try and get an earlier book in the series to start off. The story definitely builds. I’m thinking a historical romance might be a nice break. I have two on my overdrive that appeared recently. Thanks for the free downloads Kareni. I am off to get the Anna Campbell. I always enjoy her books.
  4. Totally agree.......way back when we were doing the basics everything I was reading said not to bother with memorizing but after we had memorized the basics the jump in ability was huge both times. We wrote and did verbal with flash cards. Very little computer at our house until they were much older. Btw, two math majors so I guess it worked. ?
  5. I actually do intend to read the rest but needed a break. Three books in a row for one series would have been a recent record but I read all those CS Harris books. I also want to add that those characterization terms (hated and pathetic) are the characters at their worst, both are sadly vulnerable and perhaps redeemable.....??? Can’t think of a better words....... which is why I kept reading. I was in a hurry when I posted earlier. Yeah! I know I will enjoy this book more as a group read. Thanks Robin! I just just learned that we can actually add quotes to an already started reply.
  6. I think it works for the Nobel Prize square also.......my plan. I hated the main guy and thought the girl was pathetic but I have read three of them back to back. Just saying.....lol
  7. I don’t think there is a challenge but it does fit really nicely with a Bingo square. I know I am planning to read it later this summer/fall and doing it as a challenge would be even better!
  8. I really like the ornament plus cash idea. I love looking at the 30 years of ornaments Dh and I have accumulated over the years and know I would treasure one that is a wedding gift. Either something with their names or something that symbolizes where your niece ( or her parent that you are related to)is from. If they have been living in the US they are going to need a whole lot of practical stuff so cash will be welcome.
  9. On Overdrive I keep a really long wish list that can be sorted into currently available. I love that feature! I try really hard when reading a series to remember to put the next one on my wish list.
  10. I actually had expected to buy a Janome but in the end decided on a Viking because I will have lots of support if needed from a local store. Can’t wait to hear about the Nora Roberts. The description worries me......will I be able shop in a mall again if I read this? Only half joking! I just looked and I gave the Cat who Knew a Cardinal a 5 on Goodreads. So I liked it! The first time I read these they were all out of order and I kept reading them so I think you will be fine. ? I currently have 8 books and 1 audiobook checked out on Overdrive, pretty normal for me. I always abandon a few so I need extras. ? I finished A Talent for Murder and it actually improved a bit as the book went along. Not great but there were a couple of parts that made things more palatable. I really liked the fact that Agatha was writing the Blue Train Mystery which I just read. Obviously this is planned to be the first in a series and I am not sure I will read another.........Lots of county’s for Brit Tripping Berkshire, Surrey, Dorset, Cheshire, North Yorkshire, Hertfordshire, and London.
  11. Congratulations! Lady Florida, So sorry to hear about your fil. JennW, Yes, binding all on the machine, it worked but could be better. The binding strips were 1/4 inch too narrow because I cut them before the machine purchase. I normally do it all by hand so I saved about 8 hours which is great.
  12. I have only read maybe 5 pages the last couple of days because I bought a new sewing machine with all the gadgets I dreamed of thanks to a great deal of prodding from Dh. I have been busy learning what my new toy can do and the most miraculous thing is the needle threader really is automatic and super easy! I am still listening to Woman in White and need to get back to it. Fortunately I downloaded the book too so the possibility of going back and forth exists because I have 18 hours to go! So stuck in Hampshire...... I haven’t even finished the first short story in my Mercyverse reread. Maybe tonight.......Still reading A Talent for Murder. I totally understand why Marbel quit but I really hope to finish it. I actually just renewed it. I am planning to read the next in the GM Malliot https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34953090-in-prior-s-wood series. It is in make believe England but has the best Vicar/detective ever. He used to be a MI 5 agent. I love these. i also plan to head to Norfolk early with the latest Elly Griffith. Back to binding a quilt with a machine.......
  13. A project thread would be great! I loved seeing @MargaretinCo (I don't think that worked by leave it in case you actually need to post it) doll clothes a couple of weeks ago and the loom knitting is fascinating. I suspect a lot of inspiration can be found from our board members. ?
  14. Thank you! The amazon link was really helpful. ? I tried again in Overdrive using Mercy Thompson as my keywords and still no luck. Completely puzzled as it is on Kindle. I did find a paper copy at the library so I put a hold on it. Also thanks for the freebie links! Today I “bought” the time travel one, The Unusual Life of Thomas Weaver as it looks like it might be able to stand alone. Tuesday, I keep forgetting to quote you until too late so I haven’t commented on how cute your pup is......absolutely adorable! ?. Also I think you will enjoy the Cat Who books so glad you are trying them. Which one? Several places to start on this series........They are great comfort reads, pretty sure Amy will agree with me on this!
  15. Kareni, I just started the first short story in my Patricia Briggs reread using the list you kindly postedhttp://patriciabriggs.com/books/timeline.shtml . Having problems sourcing the second one, Homecoming, a graphic novel. Have you read it? I was hoping to get it from my overdrive because they own a most of Patricia Briggs both in book and audio format. They also own a substantial number of graphic novels so I thought it would be there. I can’t seem to find it to request purchase of either. This isn’t a huge big deal. More of frustration because I can’t figure the puzzle out! Lol. I do know I can skip it especially since I have my graphic novel for Bingo all picked out thanks to Jenn!
  16. Thank you! I now understand and can’t believe the different looms that are available. I feel like I have been missing out because the last blanket I looked at off a loom was when my daughter was small and was two layers and a whole bunch of sewing together. These are beautiful!
  17. Quill, I have to ask because the crafty side of me can’t figure out how you made that beautiful square blanket in what appears to be one piece on a little round loom like we use for hats. What’s the secret?
  18. The quiz is fun.....I love seeing the results! Happy Birthday to Sophia!
  19. Absolutely beautiful! I love the label!
  20. It reappeared on the release date with Kindle format. I do wonder what would have happened if I had been able to download.
  21. We just did the GRE general exam with both of mine. They didn’t study but Dd looked over a current Princeton review and shared her findings. One practice exam and one of both types of essays in a half hour for prep. Just got the essay scores and they did great! ?. Btw, it was two essays a half hour for each on the general exam so one hour for the essay portion. Eta...he will be able to leave the exam center with his scores for the computerized portions which meant that he can always prep a bit more and retake if needed.
  22. Safe travels to your daughter. I hope she enjoys her return to Seoul. Is she going to continue with the same job or is she trying something new this time. I have never worked with the new book preparation but have come to suspect the books arrive a week or two before release in some cases. I wonder if you getting that book early was an oops? Recently the newest Alan Bradley appeared in my Overdrive about a week before release. I couldn’t access it because it was in ePub format and went to bed resolving to learn how to download ePub books. I spent awhile researching and went into my account to get my book and it was gone. Really glad Dd had looked at the curious appearance or I would have thought I imagined it!
