  1. There's one in the town next to mine. Everything is brought in by consignors aside from a few novelty items (pencils & bookmarks). They do sell brand-new copies of Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks as well. I consign there all the time and keep a running balance on my account. They don't take everything, but I haven't yet figured out how they pick & choose. Prices are usally 30-80% less than retail. It's truly a used bookstore loaded with homeschool, teaching, and educational supplies. They even offer games and higher end used toys like Playmobil. Here is their website: www.thehomeschoolroom.net They also have 2 classrooms attached to the store where local homeschool moms/dads/artists/music teachers/etc. offer classes daily. The classes right now consist of Spanish, writing, economics, an assortment of math (Algebra I & II, Trig, Geometry), and a variety of music lessons. Everyone who works there has been or still is a homeschool mom, and they have to have been doing it for at least 3+ years. They are currently working on opening one about 40 minutes north of the current location. I love & cherish this store. It's saved me SO much money, and I can find almost any curriculum ever mentioned on here there. I only wish I had thought of opening it myself! :D
  2. Weather: 101 & humid here... Thankful for AC! Lunch: turkey and cheese on wheat & red grapes. Ds#1 began Country Day Camp at a local church today, so I only had the 4yo. We hung out, read together, did laundry, and went to the local homeschool used curriculum store. Basically, we're really just trying to stay cool more than anything.
  3. My boys go to a small United Methodist one up the road, and it's free. They even feed the kids dinner and provide dessert every night.
  4. My MIL gets on my nerves because she is controlling, judgemental, selfish, and cannot be accountable for any of her actions. Fwiw, FIL is the same way... I really do not know how my dh and his brother came out okay after living with the 2 of them. In all fairness, I should add that she is very good with my boys, so I am grateful for that.
  5. I'm sorry, Joanne. That just sucks... there are no other words for this. :grouphug: Praying for you.
  6. Dh rarely has to wear a tie anymore. Rather, the men wear suit/dress pants and dress shirts without ties. Some days, he'll go in in khakis and a dress shirt, and on Fridays he can wear jeans and polo shirts. His industry never used to be this casual, but times are changing.
  7. In the past, I've sent my son to actual art lessons at a local art museum. Lessons included art history/artist study, learning the techniques, and actual hands-on practice of those techniques. He already has a fairly sound foundation in art, and it is a subject he loves. I'm not artsy at all, so I like how AP teaches to the student directly. With a 3rd grader, which book should I choose from the K-3 level? According to Rainbow Resource the books are chronological and they are a continuation of the first volume, so should I just begin with the gr.4-6 book instead? If I began with book 1 at the K-3 level, would it be okay to have a 5th grader doing book 3 at the lower level?
  8. I would have liked to have been able to do something with it, but we had it stored in a closet that backed a bathroom. The pipes burst, and the dress was completely ruined. :-(
  9. Oh my! I'm so very sorry! Please let her know I am praying for her and her family during this difficult time. :grouphug:
  10. :iagree: I'm sorry! Like Jean said, I'd aim for the celebration vs. the actual day. May the rest of your travels be uneventful and safe.
  11. Charleston, SC. It's gorgeous and full of history. 2 days would give you a quick overview before starting the drive further south. I'd probably stop in Savannah too for the same reasons, but I'd do Charleston before Savannah, imho.
  12. My mom's homemade chicken pot pie that I've learned how to replicate exactly! I also love elbow pasta with meat sauce.
  13. You are an amazing mother, and your daughter is equally amazing. Thank you for sharing the part about Stacey and her son. It was beautiful. Praying for healing -both physical and emotional for your daughter, and for all of you who are dealing with this loss. :grouphug:
  14. I could care less about brand names as a priority. I do seek out certain brands for quality and only for specific items, but to buy because it's a specific brand, absolutely not. I buy what's affordable; I don't ever pay full price, and I am perfectly happy shopping at thrift stores for all of us.
  15. Thank you! We're also Toronto fans here as that is where Dh's mom is from and his aunts, uncles, and cousins all live there. :001_smile:
  16. So excited right now!!!!!! Way to go B's!!!!:party::party:
  17. Oh my goodness, I am so tense right now even with only 6 minutes left!!!!
  18. THAT is a GREAT picture!!! Thanks for sharing!
  19. Praying for lots of answers tomorrow & Friday! Thanks for keeping us posted!
  20. Oh, he is a sweetheart! SO adorable! I would wrap my arms around him and bury my face in his fur... I wish Dh would let us get a dog... :glare:
  21. :iagree: AMEN for saying this!!! GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
