  1. To save money: I clean everything with baking soda and vinegar. I converted us over to cloth napkins. I converted us over to mostly cloth in the kitchen. I still use paper towels for really gross things. Stock up on shampoo and the like when there is a really good sale. Buy as much clothing as possible on clearance. There are no good thrift stores where I live. Bake all our bread. I am considering making my own pasta. Cook almost everything from scratch, plus monthly pantry challenge so I use what I have. To make money: I have not come up with anything yet. Some of my friends have expressed interest in purchasing some loaves of bread. I may start doing it. But I am not sure it will be worth the time and energy used for a couple of friends. Yard sales are a lot of work but are a great way to reduce clutter and earn some income. I sell big items on Craigs List.
  2. I would have loved not to have gone to the school I was in. I can't say homeschooling would have been the way to go because way back then there were not the resources we have today. My mother, who suffered from depression my entire childhood, would not have made a good teacher.
  3. It depends on the subject. I am so not where I thought we would be for history. We ended spending months in Ancient Egypt because it was so much fun. When we finish for the year I will put it aside. In a couple of years we will be back to Ancient History and we will cover what we missed. If it was a foundation subject-such as math or grammar I would try to catch up.
  4. I used it for my 3rd and 5th grader this year. We didn't love it. It is 100% secular. My kids learned but they did not thrive. The writing portion is okay. I don't think it is an awful program but it was not a good fit for us. I used a separate program for spelling and created my own literature list.
  5. I don't measure but I usually do mayo, celery, pepper to taste, lemon juice, and dill.
  6. Mt. Vernon is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. The Grist Mill is not on the property. It is a short drive down the road. We learned the hard way.
  7. Toss up between the Denim Guacho Jumpsuit my mother made me wear when I was a kid or the celery green corduroy knickers, matching ruffle blouse, and gold ballet flats that I wore to my friends sweet sixteen.
  8. Oh, that's nasty. pride. In a world made of steel, made of stone Well I hear the music, close my eyes, feel the rhythm Wrap around, take a hold of my heart This has been a fun walk down memory lane. I still remember my mother's face when she walked in on me cutting the collar out of all my new sweatshirts. Not pretty.
  9. I suspect as much as mine does. :) I can't believe I left out the big hair. Absolutely, blue and pink eyeshadow with super big hair. But did you sport all around big or what we used to call the smashed into the windshield look (really high in the front-not so much in the back)
  10. I keep it on the counter. In the summer I will put it in the fridge because it is too melty as opposed to spreadable.
  11. I don't have one favorite. It really depends on what I need. For overall general shopping: Fairway Produce-Local farmers market Premade food-Trader Joes Staples: Shoprite I have heard great things about Wegman's but there is not one near me.
  12. I live about 50 miles away from where I grew up. I left Long Island 11 years ago for the The Garden State.
  13. It depends on the field. My dh has his own company and is now going for his Masters. He has growth plans for his business and has found a need to have it. I feel that a Masters has become the new college degree. It used to be a BA had an edge over the high school diploma. Now I see more and more emplyers seeking MBA's for their entry level positions.
  14. My SIL, who just had a double mastectomy a few months ago, proudly sports her "Feel Your Boobies" t-shirt and car magnet. She actually purchased them for all the family members. We wear them with pride. I suppose it does make light of a serious disease but I have found one the best ways to raise awareness is lo-brow humour.
  15. Love my Mac. I even converted my pc loving husband.
  16. My thought on having George so horribly disfigured is that they can replace him with another actor should they choose to bring him back.
  17. We just took out 11 year old and 8 year old to see it with my sister and my nephews (10 and 7). Everyone loved it.
  18. We do most of school at the dining room table. There is one cabinet in the credenza for school supplies-markers, glue, rulers, etc. A small bookcase in the kitchen for our current books for math, language arts, science, and history. Then I have a couple of boxes with social studies books, library books, etc. under the credenza and behind the living room sofa. My summer project is to organize my overflow.
  19. We used duct tape, banana peel, and raw apple cider vinegar to get rid of our kids plantars warts. It took about a month but there was no scarring. The warts turned black and eventually fell out.
  20. We purchased a clarinet for ds from ebay. No problems.
