  1. Even young kids talk. I would discuss it with young children because they will hear about it whether we want them to or not.
  2. I think ds will have all information to make an informed decision by mid March.
  3. One of my kids has had to ask for extensions a number of times due to his schedule. So far his various instructors have been accommodating. We did discuss his situation ahead of time so the requests for extensions weren’t a surprise. One instructor was posting assignments last minute so ds had no option to get the work done early, which he tries to do.
  4. DS was accepted to Hampshire College, letter arrived today!
  5. My student loans are paid off, and the accounts closed. Just in time for my oldest to head off to college. :leaving:
  6. Mine is still waffling between two schools. We are waiting on some scholarships to be announced as well.
  7. With my parents we tried to have someone there as much as possible, especially if doctors were gong to be coming through. It’s hard to advocate for yourself if you are sick and heavily medicated It wasn’t always possible, but we tried.
  8. DS was awarded the Rothwell Stephens Mathematics Scholarship from Knox College.
  9. The retirement benefits are worth jumping through every hoop you need too. Yes it sucks, but with only one year left to reach them it’s worth it. If you were 3+ years out I’d think differently.
  10. I’d be interested in knowing this as well.
  11. The credit union caught it on the second transaction so it’s a hassle but not horrible.
  12. My debit card was compromised today. I just got off phone with our fraud department.
  13. Call around and see if any places with kilns will fire pottery for you. Some places will for a fee. They will have specific requirements on what they will fire.
  14. Agreeing with others, I’d just not bother with dairy if they don’t want it. There are other ways to get the nutrients. One of my kids couldn’t have it and we just found other foods and drinks.
  15. My boys discussed and evaluated personal values regarding relationships and eventually sex in OWL. This included discussing the value of waiting and what kinds of ways you can show love and affection in relationships without getting physical. They also encouraged discussing things with parents and talking about family values around the subject. Again, I’d love parents to handle sex ed and have the important conversations with their kids. It’s not happening.
  16. Adults are a whole other issue. The conversation originated discussing children and teens who are viewing porn. I think inadequate sex education is the issue. Quality sex ed is much more than how babies are made. It discusses relationships and values as well as facts.
  17. I disagree that it can’t happen in sex ed. I do agree it would be ideal if parents and caregivers discussed it better.
  18. No, I don’t want them to be savvy consumers of porn. I want them to have real, fact based, sex education from an early age so they aren’t seeking out porn and other negative options instead. I’m saying they aren’t getting that, and that’s why even young kids are pursuing porn.
  19. The issue isn’t just teens who might know better, might. Children much younger are accessing it before they would potentially have the cognitive reasoning to determine a good source of information. If you’ve been kept in ignorance, at any age, you aren’t going to know what is a good or bad source.
  20. Naval aviation is not a biological process that you naturally become curious about. At some point, most humans are biologically interested in sex. Without adequate healthy education they will seek information elsewhere. In our current society, porn is the easiest to access resource. Without adequate education they don’t know it’s a bad resource.
  21. I’ve never heard anyone complain that the books skewed left in any fashion. I have heard complaints that they are moderately conservative and are not secular.
