  1. Wow. I've seen plenty of non-christians online and offline that express all of those characteristics. Whether they have a belief in a god or not. Including many on this forum.
  2. My son is 8 and he runs around a lot everyday. He gets very stinky. He takes a bath/shower every night. I take a shower everyday, but I only wash my hair a couple of times per week or so.
  3. "Saints are another thing altogether...of course St Anthony finds my lost stuff!!! Even though I don't believe in him, he still finds my stuff. How awesome is that ?" She specifically says she does not believe in him.
  4. I wonder if that had something to do with the taste difference I had.
  5. I have had super fresh raw goat's milk and cannot taste a difference. I have had the store stuff and some from a different farm here in TX (my other goat milk was from a farm in FL) and I can definitely taste a difference. The milk here tasted like goat cheese. I don't know if the raw stuff I tried here in TX just wasn't as fresh as what I had in FL or if it came from a different breed of goat or what, but it definitely had a different taste. I was disappointed.
  6. I would think most colleges offer some sort of online programs. I am finishing up my AA (General Studies) this year and will finish up my AAS in HIM the next two semesters with the majority of my classes being online. My husband completed his BA (National University) and his MBA (Colorado State University) with 100% online courses. It's definitely possible. Plus colleges like Phoenix University are legitimate as well. I went to Florida State College at Jacksonville and now, San Jacinto College, both community colleges.
  7. The pint of cream and tank of gas could actually be purchased on the many other days besides Thanksgiving that the store is open. My point is that I see a lot of people (not necessarily here) that are complaining about retail stores taking people away from their families. In truth, there are plenty of retail type stores and restaurants that have always been open on holidays and no one is crying a river for those employees, even though they are also away from their families on holidays. Those stores being open is a convenience. If one cannot fill up their gas tank on a holiday, that is an inconvenience to that particular person, but it is not a necessity. No one is going to keel over and die because they aren't able to fill up their car on a holiday. I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't understand why it is so important that those who work at Target, Macy's, WM, et all to be able to spend Thanksgiving with their families but those who work in other places that are open on holidays are just poo-pooed as being somewhat "necessary." IMO, it doesn't matter what one is purchasing. Any purchase can be done prior to a holiday. I just cannot take a complaint about working on a holiday seriously when there are those who selflessly work many holidays to help and serve others. I am glad we have police officers (and I assume their support personnel), firemen, health care workers, military, etc who work these holidays away from their family without complaining and starting online petitions.
  8. I disagree. Convenience stores, grocery stores, gas stations, hotels, etc are not necessities in the way that health care personnel, emergency personnel, etc is. I'm glad you were able to get hot dogs at a 7-11 and that you are fine that the people working there had to spend time away from their family to provide you with that necessity. Convenience stores, gas stations, hotels, grocery store, etc are all open on holidays to make money. Period. They are not open because they want to help anyone out. If they were not making a profit, they would not be open. Same with other stores. They are opening on Thanksgiving because there are plenty of people willing to come shop and they are making money. If it makes you feel better to tell yourself that the person at the gas station or grocery store is only there to provide a necessary service, than knock yourself out, but that is not the case. Macy's and Walmart, et all are not evil entities trying to ruin the Thanksgiving spirit. They are businesses out to make money, because that is what businesses do. Just like the many other businesses that are open and/or have employees working on a federal holiday.
  9. Health care workers, emergency personnel, military, yes. However, hotels, gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants, grocery stores (in the mornings at least), etc have all been open on holidays for years and years, but it seems the majority of complaints have come these past couple of years or so when some stores have started opening on Thanksgiving night instead of super early Friday morning. I worked at the gas station from 99 to 03 and I have never seen any online petitions or internet uproar about not stopping at the gas station on any holiday.
  10. I am really enjoying hearing about all the different jobs where people work holidays. There is so much focus on retailers, as if they're so evil because they choose to be open on a holiday. In reality, there are plenty of people working.
  11. I don't have one, but my mom does. I'm currently living with her, so I've been using it. Her's is a Mr. Coffee brand one though, not an actual Keurig. I think she's had it for a couple of years or so now? I like it okay. I use the refillable thing some and I use the cups some. My mom buys a large variety of K Cups, so I usually mooch off of her if I'm using a K Cup. I like having my own ground coffee too and keep a decent variety to use in the refillable thing.
  12. I start working at Kroger tomorrow, so I assume I'll be working Thanksgiving morning. :) No big whoop, yo! My previous job in the military expected me to work holidays. For four years prior to that I worked in a gas station that was open year round. It doesn't bother me and I am fine with it. I don't go out shopping on BF anyways, but I won't stop shopping somewhere just because they're open on Thanksgiving.
  13. Just think, Mrs. Brady had a full-time, live-in housekeeper and she was a housewife herself!
  14. :( That is really sad and very sucky for you.
  15. I love the 2nd one better than the first!!!
  16. I've had jello shots one time many years ago. My friend, who I hadn't talked to in years and caught up with on FB, told me that she still has the VHS tape from that night. Really. I was hoping it had been lost! lol
  17. I am pretty amazed at a very small amount (thankfully) of the responses here. Yes, if someone is working, having even one beer/drink is not a good idea. That goes for whether you are babysitting or flying a plane or ringing up groceries or whatever. That is a completely different situation than a person having a drink in their own home. IMO, this goes beyond alcohol and is just about what a parent can and cannot control/limit/avoid/shelter in their children's lives. Reminds me of the song Harper Valley PTA.
  18. Yeah, my dad managed to be an alcoholic and raise two daughters. Really. I even had female friends who came to my house and stayed the night as well. Imagine that. Not talking to you CR, but to the post you were quoting. I must have missed it the first time through.
  19. My brother, sister, and I grew up in a home with a functioning alcoholic father who never stopped drinking. We can all drink responsibly and do not avoid or shun alcohol or others who do drink responsibly. Since we have a couple of alcoholic uncles as well, I'd say there's something genetic there as well. I just don't get being concerned about some having a beer or two or even three, four, or five or more while they're watching football in their own home. Some people have much higher tolerance than others. I don't understand trying to make alcohol out to be evil and something to 100% avoid at all costs. A lot of our family get togethers growing up had excessive drinking. As long as these people aren't driving anywhere, I don't see the problem. If anything, I would think letting your children see how stupid people look and act when they've had way too much to drink would be a boon to your cause. I would have actually been insulted if one of my friends growing up was not allowed at my house because my dad was drinking beer while watching TV in the afternoon. He wasn't violent, he wasn't sloppy. He wasn't driving us anywhere. I'm not sitting here rooting for alcoholism because that obviously negatively affects the person who has it as well as all of those around him. I think my mom bore the brunt of that, but it affected us all. However, we were not without grace. I don't know why my dad was never able to overcome his addiction. I would imagine it is something very hard to overcome. I have my own faults I would like to overcome that are very hard and I fail at on a regular basis.
