  4. Hi, Just wanted to pass along info. There are 16 free apps today from ABCMouse.com. They look to be pretty good for young learners. Enjoy! http://www.smartappsforkids.com/2013/02/good-free-apps-of-the-day-1-fifteen-abcmousecom-apps-.html?utm_source=Constant+Contact%3A+abcmouse2&utm_campaign=CC1&utm_medium=email
  5. Thank you everyone for the replies. We are going through the prairie primer right now, so I guess I was looking for something laid out like that to combine the three books into a weekly layout somehow. I do have a ton of readers I will be using and videos. I love history and I have probably gone overboard with all the books I have. I am struggling with how to fit everything in.
  6. I plan on using the Complete Book of US History along with the Complete Book of Presidents & States, and the Complete book of Maps & Geography next year for grades 5, 4, 2, and Pre-K. Does anyone know of extra resources or curriculum that someone has put together using these books? I have found some various resources for US history in general, but was wondering if anyone had already put together resources before I start digging in. Thanks for the help.
  7. I am wanting to cover U.S. History next year for my 10, 9, 6, and 4 year olds. I have a ton of stuff that I will be using to create my own curriculum. A dilemma I have is I would also like to do the Prairie Primer. My kids love Little House and we will actually be visiting a lot of the sites in August as we travel out West for a week. My question is, has anyone successfully done a U.S. History and Prairie Primer combo? I'm trying to figure out how I can organize it and fit it all in. I feel this would be the last year to do the Prairie Primer with my 10 and 9 year old boys. My girls are 6 and 4 and could wait, but I like to combine everyone for History. Also, if I do it now and repeat it again when the girls are 10 and 8, will they enjoy it still or will it be boring the 2nd time around. Sorry so many questions. I'm just trying to wrap my head around everything I want to do and everything I need to do. Thank you so much for your help and input.
  8. A new sight is launching tomorrow called Educents that will offer discounts on curriculum. If you sign up before they launch tomorrow, they will send you a free $10 gift card to use on their sight. http://educents.com?source=w9dzny3p
  9. This app is free today, normally $19.99. Thought I would pass it along. Phonics and Reading With McGuffey https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id477046803?mt=8
  10. Yes, you can get the updates. Just send her an email. I got the updates recently, no questions asked. She is very nice.
  11. So sorry. I would do as others have said and go by his interest. Maybe doing fun learning with science experiments, history lessons with history pockets, etc. Fun but educational. I have four children and we do a lot of hands on stuff and they really enjoy it. They get to bond together as brothers and sisters and have fun while learning.
  12. My kids loved these two things: 1. Learning Resources Primary Science Mix & Measure Set http://www.learningresources.com/product/primary+science+mix+-+measure+set.do?sortby=ourPicks&sortby=& 2. Learning Resources Science Lab Set http://www.learningresources.com/product/primary+science+lab+set.do?sortby=ourPicks&page=8&
  13. My son has discovered the Who Was series and loves it. Ex. Who Was JFK
  14. For fun, fast, science lessons: www.hookedonscience.org. Lots of videos and teacher guides to perform the experiments with your kids. Most of the materials needed can be found at home.
  15. iPad. I did the same thing as you and you just can't get all the educational apps for androids that you can with iTunes.
  16. I have my children read a lesson then they complete a handwriting page that contains sentences from the lesson they read.
  17. You can also check out www.hookedonscience.org for some cool science videos and teacher guides.
  18. I just came over to the forum to ask the same question. My 9 year old would love this, but I need reviews and insight on this before spending that much.
  19. Seems like if you we're doing a meeting, you should have asked a fireman to come and talk to the kids. You're plan could harm kids instead of save them.
  20. Giving kids candy and letting them eat uncontrolablly will become additive and fattening to them as well. It is the parents responsibility to watch what they play and how long. As for YouTube, my kids don't watch that, so that isn't an issue here. One more thing, I wouldn't say that a child is addicted because they want to play it with friends and talk about it. If they enjoy something and take it beyond the computer, it's no different than playing Spider-Man or cars.
  21. I say thumbs up. My kids both boys and girls love it. Yes, it is additive, but at least they are learning things they normally would not know. My kids know the layers of the Earth at 5 years old, they have learned about mining, planting, harvesting, shearing sheep, and so much more. I would rather them play this than a violent game. Just set a time limit and stick with it.
  22. I have done the same thing. I was just wondering about a post on here of things for sale. I know they have a for sale section. Do you think we could list our kids legos or is that for curriculum only? I can list on Ebay but some times by the time I take the time to type it out and then pay the fees I have to charge more than if I did not have to go through them. I would much rather just sell it straight and know I was blessing another family. I agree about all the fees and such with eBay. We have been selling on Facebook and a local website. Would be nice to sell here as well.
