  1. I just purchased a used set of McGuffey readers to use for reading. I was looking through the books today and like them, however I have also discovered a free program called Reading Made Easy with Blend Phonics for First Grade. I believe after looking at both, the Blend Phonics will be my main curriculum and I will supplement with the McGuffey readers.
  2. Unfortunatly it was $.99 Friday. I posted it Saturday thinking it would still be on sale and then noticed it went up. I'm sure it will go down again. I love appshopper!
  3. I got it this past year because we have to do KY History. I really liked it and thought the series worked good for my kids.
  4. As a former Office Depot worker, I can assure you the proclick is not Technology. Yes the coupon did work. I bought some comb binding to go along with it and spent over $75 so I used the $15 off coupon and everything worked just fine. FYI, I also have a STAR Teacher card and received a percentage off the purchase as well. One more thing, their clearance is an extra 50% this weekend, so I got some good deals with that as well. Happy shopping.
  5. Try this link: http://printable-coupons.blogspot.com/2006/02/office-depot-coupons.html Hope it works for you.
  6. Let me see if I can find you a link. I know the one I used expired yesterday but they usually have those coupons frequently.
  7. No I am not connected to the app in anyway. I am just a homeschooler like you passing on info I think might help someone. I just got an iPad to use in homeschooling 2 months ago so I have been trying to find awesome apps and wanted to share. I have no clue about name similarities or why the name was chosen. :001_smile:
  8. Just wanted to share that Simplex Spelling Phonics 2 Syllables - Spell To Read is now available in the app store. It is a followup app to Simplex Spelling Phonics 1. I love #1 and look forwarding to using #2 as well. Just thought I would let you know if interested.

  10. We use Horizons for the spiral aspect and love it. I tried Saxon, MUS, and Math Mammoth but kept going back to Horizons. It just works with my kids. I've never noticed the jumping around but I also never used the K book. My K'er started in the 1st grade book because the K book looked to easy for her. We have used 2nd and 3rd with my older children and love it. FYI, I do not own or use the Teacher Manuals because I heard they do not help. Good luck finding the right fit. :001_smile:
  11. Just wanted to say my 8 year old boy is behind in reading as well. He is also a very active boy whereas his 9 year old brother is an above average reader and calm. Just stick with short books that he likes and picks out. Let him take a trip to the store or library and pick some books out. If they are too hard for him to read, than read to him. Also maybe get one of those blow up excercise balls that people use for sit up and such. Let him sit on it while reading. Just try to make reading as fun as possible instead of a chore. It will take time but will come. I have seen my son improve quite a bit in the past few months. We aren't were we need to be yet, but slowly getting there. Good luck. :grouphug:

  14. Any suggestions where to find used, cheap?
  15. My kids #1 app is Toontastic. They fight over who gets to play it and most of the time settle for sharing and playing it together. It allows them to be creative, learn story boarding, and directing. I love the movies they come up with. 16. I was in the same situation last year except I had two boys going into grades 2 & 3. Like you my younger son was not very good at reading but great at math. I combined math, history, bible, science, and typing. They worked at their individual levels for grammar, writing, and spelling. I think it worked pretty well for us and I will continue to combine subjects with them going forward.
  17. I don't have time to list them all right now, but hands down favorite is Reading Raven. My daughter has learned to read on her own by using this app. I have played it as well and feel it does a very good job with Phonetic teaching. Will post more later.

  19. Are you wanting a physical book to write in, a computer spreadsheet, program, or app? What are you more comfortable using?
