  1. I had a house full of sickies last year. Pretty sure it was swine flu, but the doctor did not tesy since treatment is the same, but we had been exposed. Anyway, I took Airborne as much as it said to for a week and I stated to feel a little sick one day, bit it went away later that day. I now keep that around for when I get exposed to something.
  2. I started taking the ACT in 7th grade....a long time ago :) I was in the same room as high schoolers. There were no problems, and of anyone felt "stupid," it was the high schoolers around me who were very friendly and talked to be before the test. They were all Jrs taking it for the first time. They were impressed by a little seventh grader taking the test. I actually scored high enough for admittance to most stayed schools. Talk about how hard the test could be and how their will be math problems that she does not know how to do. But don't be surprised if she scores well. If you do a couple of practice test, she may do even better.
  3. Steel Magnolias Hope Floats Stepmom Patriot Beaches Toy Story 3 Up A Walk to Remember Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avolea A Little Princess So many great cry movies!!!
  4. I was trying to throw IP page in with the text and workbook. It was too much repetition. He was stating to hate math. We now just do the text and workbook. We are ahead of schedule. When we have been away from addition and subtraction for a couple of weeks, I will throw the IP pages back in the mix. It will be review and reinforcement. I don't want to start 2b until Jan, we are now set to finish 2a early Nov. We will work in CPW until Christmas break and again at the end of the year. I am using the extra books to reinforce, but also to slow us down. I don't want him to finish elementary math and be into Algebra in 5th or 6th grade.
  5. As far as remembering from year to year, it depends on how you teach. We spent 3 months on geography of the continents. He has great recall of that a year later. We have spent the first 6 weeks on history in the fertils crescent and Egypt. He knows the Mediteranean Sea, Tigers and Euphrates and the Nile rivers, mesopotamia, King Narmer, Sargon, and much more. He can tell you a story about Egypt and Mesopotamia. We do a lapbook section for each chapter of SOTW and CC memory work. He remembers what we learned in week one because we review constantly and we listen to SOTW regularly. You will be suprised what a 5-6 year old can memorize.
  6. I was time a good average is 1 hour for every year of school. First grade - one hour, second grade - two hours, etc. I do spelling, phones, math, grammar and handwriting with my first grade daily. We do science twice a week and history three times a week.
  7. I make my dancer do push-UPS as a part of warm UPS and as punishment for chatting, but only the 10+ year olds. 5 year olds get a time out. Chickification? Really? It is our job to protect our kids. If someone mistress my 5 year old son, I will jump in. My reactions are different now than they were when he was 2and will change as he gets older. Am I making him girly? No. I truly hate the idea that boys have to he so much tougher than girls. They are 5! They are on am emotional and developmental rollercoaster. They need someone who can stand up for them.
  8. So really, Grandma should be doing push-ups. But that's absurd, right? I agree that it would have been better to make him sit and watch practice. He missed warm-ups, he could get hurt since he dis not stretch and properly prepare his body. That would he acceptable. I have that policy for my dancers. But I don't make them do push-ups for being late when they can't drive.
  9. He is 5 or 6. He has no control over his arrival time. It was not his mistake. At 5, anything should be about fun. How competitive could this team be, really. I would have pulled my son from the team if a coach acted like that.
  10. 11:00 is our goal....but both kids are still up tonight....we have been up as late as 1:00 am. We are NOT morning people. This schedule did play some part in our homeschool decision. I teach dance until 8:30. Some nights I don't get home until 9:30 by the time I lock up and everything. We eat a late dinner as a family and play, read, or watch tv. I will say, my kids are flexible. Because they sleep for 10-12 hours (until they wake up on their own) each night, they are flexible. I can get them up early one day, like today, and we can still function well. 2 days up early and we have changed schedules until we change thwm back.
  11. I had hives as a reaction to meds. The only thing that helped was a paste of ground oatmeal, cornstarch and water. I would just sit and let it dry. I hope you can get some relief.:grouphug:
  12. Today has gone well. We had our first co-op day this morning. We had to be there by 8:30 am for orientation stuff....we don't normally get out of bed until 9!! Eek! The only school at home was memory work and some silent reading later. Breakfast for me was a coke to get going and bagels and cream cheese in the mom's room. The kids had Nutri-grain bars in the car. Lunch: I had grilled chicken, beans, and rice. DD had chicken nuggets, and DH and DS are eating bacon and fruit. My wish for today....A nap before I teach dance tonight....
  13. In Oklahoma we are supposed to do 1080 hrs. They changed from 180 days a few years ago. We have no reporting requirement, however. It would be impossible for me to do 6 hours a day with a first grader! I count his dance and theatre all year, including summer. If we go to the zoo on Saturday, that counts. I am tracking 180 days plus weekend educational activities. So we do 5 days a week.
  14. None, unless he needs to go to the restroom. We are generally done in 1-1.5 hours. He has a good attention span and we just plow on through. If we are having a bad day, we take a break.
  15. DH and DD3 eat them in crackers....I make them brushe their teeth when they finish....Yuck!
  16. :001_smile::001_smile::001_smile: :001_smile::001_smile::001_smile: 3x2 is 3 across and 2 down, therefore, it is 2 groups of 3. 2x3 is 2 down and 3 across, therefore, it is 3 groups of 2.
  17. I teach dance 5 nights a week, so I am active for 1-4 hours a night but I don't always get a good cardiovascular workout. I have an elliptical in the front room, but I have not used it in a year....
  18. Yes, my sister made me get one so she could keep up with the kids. Now she deactivated her account:glare: I love keeping up with my friends that way! I can see how their kids are doing or how work is going. I have reconnected with many old friends.
  19. I have a lot of friends who posted this, but no one sent me the email. I had to Google it. But I learned nothing.g about cancer...I too hate all tue reposting on Facebook. These games and the ones where people say "post this if you believe in God....I know no.e of my friends will." They aggravate me.
  20. We are in R&S 2. I feel that it is very gentle, as I would define it. It is slow, methodical and easy to do orally. We just finished unit 2 on the sentence. DS really enjoys it. He has really grasped the concepts. They show in his dictation.
  21. I bought all over the place. I found good deals on SM on eBay, R&S grammar used from here, SOTW used through my support group, and science new from convention (big discount for buying there, plus free shipping). Spelling Plus and Dictation came from Amazon. Our Kingfisher history encyclopedia was $4 onAmazin Market Place. I did spend the big bucks for CC Foundations. We are doing this at home. We will use it for 6 years per kid....I have 2. That is 9 years (more if we add to the family!) I have also spent quite a bit on the Target dollar aisle getting games, workbook, and flashcards by A+. They are great! I think piercing it together can be a lot cheaper if you are not in a hurry. I started looking in March and started purchasing in May. I had everything well before our August 1 start date.
  22. We have Drawing with Children, I like it. We do not do structured art regularly. They have dance and theatre and music every week. We do more free art time. I want to do Drawing with Children more. I just don't know when....
