  1. I'm one of those who love the books in Core F. It wouldn't be that hard to remove the missionary biographies and substitute some other books if you wanted to do that.
  2. I just told my son about it. He's already turned in his documents to promote for the Mitchell Award. He thinks the TSA is a great idea. We live by lots of airports!
  3. My son was accepted provisionally at Cal State Long Beach, but I haven't sent his final transcript yet. I'm assuming, if they are going to cause trouble, that's when the trouble will happen. My son is torn between CSULB and a local private university. He wants to study engineering; the private university only offers a 2/2 and 3/2 program, so he will have to transfer if he goes there. He is attending some classes with a friend tomorrow at CSULB. If he decides to attend CSULB, I'll be sure to post what happens with his transcript. We homeschool through a PSP. He has no AP classes, no SAT subject tests, and no CC classes. He did pass three CLEP exams and scored a 31 on the ACT. CSULB was always a back-up school. I'm very surprised it became one of his top choices. Maybe we would have made more of an effort to meet the A-G requirements.
  4. My ds definitely will not be attending his first choice school. It is hard to say no due to finances, but he understands. He has a two visits this coming week. Hopefully, he will have a strong feeling one way or another. They are complete polar opposites.
  5. Well, my son did not get the tuition exchange at the last school we were waiting to hear from. It is just hard to see him get into all the schools, but not be able to afford them. Our EFC is just too high. We still have options; they just aren't the ones he wanted.
  6. Waiting as well. I am on the board of our PSP. We've never gotten a registered letter since I've been there.
  7. I'd go with kids that age, as long as they were on board with it. Yes, I'd get a 2-day park hopper pass. The price quoted by Khselee might be for southern California residents only. Disneyland might check your zip codes upon entrance. Costco usually has deals here. I don't think they are for residents only, though I do think they are longer than two day passes.
  8. We've been told that the tuition exchange decision for my son's first choice school will be mailed this Friday. After that, we should have all the financial information. Unfortunately, the options left are all VERY different and none will be ideal.
  9. We've had them jump the car in CA at our house before. I don't know why they wouldn't have towed it if it didn't start.
  10. Chemistry: Apologia with Red Wagon Tutorials DVD and Landry Lab Intensive Precalculus: Still deciding Bible: Precept Bible study (.5) English: Potter's School Research Writing (first semester) and Science Fiction Literature (second semester) American History: Sonlight Core 100 with REA Test Prep book(s) and CLEP test(s) PE (.5) Electives: No idea yet! ACT and/or SAT test prep Extracurricular: finish up any lingering Eagle rank stuff. Hopefully, he'll be done by August.
  11. In some ways, you are describing my son and our situation exactly. I hope someone can give us both words of wisdom.
  12. Unlike the earlier English classes, the papers do not go through multiple drafts. According to my son, some weeks the students have peer reviews on their papers. When the teacher returns the paper, she will give comments and feedback. She leaves comments in the body of the paper as well as two separate grade breakdowns for grammar issues and style. The class also includes some grammar with optional grammar assignments. I have to say, it takes her 2-3 weeks to return the papers. She's not as reliable with that as some of the other English teachers.
  13. This really struck me, and it's exactly how I feel. ((hugs)) I'm glad we're all in this together!
  14. Awesome news! I hope the finances work out. I was a bassoonist waitlisted at Eastman, too. We have an elite club here. :) I really enjoyed my audition and the school when I visited there.....back in the day.
  15. Well, my son's been turned down for two tuition exchange options. We are only waiting to hear from one more. That is his first choice. If he doesn't get that one, it will definitely present us with some difficult choices.
  16. I know other homeschoolers who have attended CSULB, but they might have technically graduated from a private school with recognized A-G requirements. I could find out. Edited to add: The family I know DID fulfill the A-G requirements. One graduated from a charter school and the second one graduated from a school with a brick and mortar campus.
  17. My son is taking the class this year. He says they assignments are not religious based.
  18. My son was admitted to Cal State Long Beach with a fairly high ACT score, no AP, no community college classes, and the classes I input from our transcript. They are not A-G approved. We'll see what happens when we submit the final transcript. I hadn't thought about that. CSULB is not near his top choice right now, but you never know.
  19. I feel your pain. Without receiving a tuition exchange, we are left with less desirable options.
