  1. Thanks. We went and did the initial appointment today with one doctor. I can't say I was overly-impressed, but I only got five hours of sleep last night. She wants to do additional testing. This entire process is just overwhelming. We're dealing with so many issues right now, I just don't know if I have the energy for another one. Hopefully, I feel better after a little sleep!
  2. My sons hate talking on the phone, but the skype sessions didn't bother them. The sessions seemed to last about 15 minutes. I think your kids get out of them what they put into them.
  3. Do any of you have strategies on how to find a trustworthy COVD doctor? We live in the Orange County, CA. Our neuropsych recommended that my son get a developmental eye exam.
  4. My 17yo son had a neuropsych assessment last March. He is heading to college, and one of the recommendations is that he use a Livescribe pen. I see they have a few different models. Do any of you have any experience with these pens? Can you recommend a specific model? Is there a big learning curve to using one? Thanks!
  5. Both my boys had Nikki Troxell. One took it two years ago. The second one took it last year. I had only heard great things about the class. Our experience two years ago: She got REALLY far behind on the grading. I'd say almost a full quarter. Otherwise it was a good class. Last year: She generally kept up with the grading. She ran 2-4 weeks behind, I'd say. My one concern is that the class seemed much easier last year than the year before. Last year they only had a few assignments that were due in one week. I'd guesstimate five or fewer. Most of the assignments were two week papers. They usually had to turn in a rough draft by the first week. These were not long papers. My son two years ago had a larger quantity of papers, many of them being due in a week. TPS completely revamped the English sequence last year, so I'm guessing the Advanced Comp class changed at that time.
  6. I know Cal State didn't take into account anything else since my son took no AP classes, no SAT2 tests, and no community college classes. He had a pretty good ACT score and a few CLEP tests.
  7. I thought I'd update on our experience with Cal State Long Beach. If you look at the admission requirements on the website, they require the same accredited A-G requirements as the UC schools. I submitted my son's final transcript last week. Online yesterday his "to-do's" changed from "final transcript required" to "no to-do's." I'm assuming this means they accepted the transcript. I was nervous about this final step even though he was provisionally admitted earlier this year. We are registered as a private school. I submitted a nice-looking transcript created and signed by me. I did get it stamped with our PSP's school seal. He took no accredited A-G classes. Just thought I'd share my personal experience.
  8. I re-read the previous two before the newest one. I already finished the new one. :( Now I have to wait..... We visited Scotland two years ago as a family. I was tempted to do the "Gabaldon tour. " I'll have to go back!
  9. My son's college says: Final high school transcript in a sealed envelope with date of graduation.
  10. My husband has a long commute, but he doesn't mind. If your husband minds, then I wouldn't think it is a viable option.
  11. My 16yo is finishing Derek Owens Physics before taking Chemistry. He has struggled with the class, but I don't think it has anything to do with not having Chemistry.
  12. I'm pretty sure it's the 11 volume set. I own both the print and audible versions. I know my oldest listened to them.
  13. My son took an Aviation Science class with Potter's School. I don't know if they still offer it, but I might have the syllabus somewhere. i know it included weather.
  14. I LOVE google calendar. We've used it for a couple of years; I don't know how I lived without it. We all have color-coded calendars.
  15. My son has not ended up where I would have thought, but we have a decision. He has chosen to enroll at California State University Long Beach majoring in either Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering. Even though he was accepted at every place he applied to, financially only two were viable contenders in the end. My son is highly intelligent, but he has severe food allergies, ADD, and learning disabilities. He decided that commuting from home would be the wisest choice for him this year. CSULB has a strong engineering program. He is looking forward to joining some engineering clubs, especially the rocketry club and MAKER club. He loves that they have a 3D printer. :) We'll see how it all works out. CSULB is a huge campus. Hopefully, he will find his place there. He does know a couple of students there already.
  16. My son is essentially choosing between bottom choices as well. I like your description of our main job.
  17. My son was still visiting last week. I know what that is like. The single point vs whole gestalt it very helpful. It's kind of where we are right now. How stressful and funny, in hindsight. I'm glad it all worked out for him.
  18. So tell me about this deadline. My son still has not made a decision. We're cutting it close. My understanding is we need to put down a deposit by the deadline, correct? Burying my head in the sand until next week. At least both choices are within driving distance if we need to go there for some reason. He attended two classes at one of the choices earlier this week. Calgon, take me away!
  19. I think the UC's are still just as picky. Maybe the Cal State schools are getting more flexible. Let's hope she knew what she was talking about.
  20. I think the UC's are still just as picky. Maybe the Cal State schools are ageting more flexible. Let's hope she knew what she was talking about.
  21. I finally got around to talking to my son's admissions evaluator at Cal State Long Beach. I told her we homeschooled as a private school. Our school is not accredited, and we do not have approved A-G courses. Will this be a problem? She said that as long as the courses on his transcript match the course names on the application he filled out and cover the A-G subjects, it shouldn't be a problem. Let's hope she's right if he decides to attend there. He is still torn between two schools.
