  1. I am going to attempt to teach my son Italian or at least help him learn it. It’s been a while since I studied it myself and I need help in the form of books or courses or whatever you may have used to teach your kids or even teach yourselves. Thank you!
  2. My son has not done this class. However, since noone else is responding, I am sharing what I know. I inquired about it sometime last year. Roy Speed came back to me with a lengthy email with all the details of the class. I am pasting it below. I liked his response and the idea of the class, but my son decided he was not interested in Shakespeare. Otherwise we would have done it. Although, considering there are no writing assignments and the workload involved, I don't think I would give that much credit. If you have any more questions, you should contact Roy Speed. He was very helpful. Hope this helps! "First, there are no writing assignments. What you should plan for: · Total hours. A typical student’s weekly workload might look something like this: o 1.5 hrs in online class; o 2.5 – 3.5 hrs of homework. · Reading assignments. The bulk of the students’ assignments comprise reading and rereading the play or studying their own notes and annotations. In addition to reading the play itself, the students read: o a synopsis of the play; o one of Shakespeare’s sonnets; o an essay on how to mark up/annotate a text; o excerpts from a poem that was Shakespeare’s source for the R&J story, Arthur Brooke’s Romeus and Juliet (1562); o an article detailing Shakespeare’s inventions and alterations to the Brooke poem/story; o an excerpt from a book on Shakespeare’s use of imagery. · Other types of assignments. Students will also — o do some memorization; o recite in class the memorized passage; o watch film clips from the 1968 Zeffirelli movie version of Romeo & Juliet; o prepare questions and issues they will bring to each class discussion. · Tests. I distribute to parents two simple tests they can use as they see fit. Parents have used these tests in all of the following ways: o as review, or just for fun; o to generate a grade; o to document the work/confirm that the student is reading closely and paying attention in class."
  3. How often do you NOT receive mail? I live in California since 2000 and before we only had no mail once or twice a year. Since the middle of March, we have had 18 missed delivery dates. Just in the second half of March we had 8. Is this weird? A little background, we live in the suburbs so the mailman comes every day, no excuses for bad streets or anything. Our latest mailman is not nice and a lot of people have complained about misdeliveries and forgetting to deliver packages. I am not sure how many have complained about non delivery of mail altogether. Should I be concerned? I called the local station but they have not been very helpful. Oh, and we have been receiving things late. Our car insurance bill came 2 days before it was due. I am really curious to see your responses!
  4. I use nextdoor. It's not a social website. PollyR above listed a lot of good reasons to use it. In our case we also use it as a crime watch. We had petty theft like package theft and break-ins and it's a good way to keep the neighbors informed on suspicious cars or people. You can choose to post a message only for your immediate neighborhood or you send it to more. You can also send private messages to other members. Iit is also useful for referrals like home improvement and home services. Some people even ask for doctors. It's quite useful.
  5. I don't think you overreacted. I am all about the unconscious preception. I know sometimes my brain sends me signals based on situations or other people's body language and I always follow them. They have not stirred me wrong so far. This last winter, I was at the mall. Same situation, a male at a woman's store, could have been anything, but somehow he talked to me and my creep senses spiked. I left the store and there you have it, the guy followed me around. I went into another store and got into the parking lot from the back door. As I was driving away, I made fun of myself for being so spooked, when I see the guy coming running out of the same door, RUNNING! and looking around. I just about peed my pants. I ducked so he could not see me and I am still feeling the creepy feeling. He was a big burly guy, I don't even want to imagine what he could do. This is the second time my instincts helped me get out of a weird situation. Better safe than sorry!
  6. Good luck with your surgery and enjoy your slurpee!
  7. I would not send anything in a non verified address. I would contact the buyer and be upfront and let them know and give them the option to go through the steps to verify their address. If they don't, then I would refund their money and cancel the transaction. In the past, in a similar situation I had contacted paypal and ask them what to do to protect myself. However, Paypal customer service has gone downhill and I do not trust them anymore as I used to. I would also agree with other commenters that positive feedback is not a guarantee. I have been scammed by 2 sellers with thousands of positive feedback and also by a buyer with hundreds of positive feedback. The buyer waited for 2 weeks and then claimed my item was not as listed, which was a lie. So, you never know. I do not sell much on ebay anymore, but when I do, I print the name of the buyer and take detailed pictures of items with the buyer's name on them. That way they know they were taken after the item was sold.
  8. :crying: I am sad for the loss of her precious life and sad that her last moments on Earth were so heartbreaking for her. Being bullied at school and an abusive father at home.
  9. Thanks to everyone that has commented. Every little bit helps me. I hardly knew what scoliosis was before and I need all the information I can get to get us through. The information about Marfan's was very enlightening. I had no idea that Marfan's existed before this week. I am especially curious about core strengthening and physical therapy and chiropractors and any other alternative ways to correct it. We will get my son outfitted with a brace, but it would be nice to have other options too as the brace is not always successful.
  10. I am going through the motions right now. I thought it was a good thing that the doctor wanted to check everything out. However, we went there on Monday. The doctor presented things somewhat gloomy and said he would ask for MRIs. Now it's Thrusday, three full days after our visit and I called his office and they told me they haven't even filed the request, because the doctor hasn't dictated his report yet. Is that weird or what? By the way, I did find this doctor through the Scoliosis Research Society website, so I know he does have experience with scoliosis. But I do question his competency at this point.
  11. Thank you for recommending your doctor and for taking time to register here. I appreciate it. I will give this doctor a call. It is so hard to find a good rheumatologist here, it's crazy. I have an appointment with a doctor close to me scheduled no kidding for November 23rd. So, I will travel some distance to see someone earlier than that.
  12. Thank you all for your responses. After some research, I think the doctor fears my son has Marfan syndrome. It fits with his questions about heart, eyes and skin marks. My son is tall but at his last physical he was at 75% so he is not that tall. Considering that his father is 6'4", I don't think he is tall enough to cause concern. He is very thin though. We had an echocardiogram done almost 2 years ago when his pediatrician first heard the murmur. The cardiologist told us at the time that the murmur was harmless. I am not sure if that can change with time. I still remember how nerve wracking and agonizing was to visit the cardiologist. I was hoping we wouldn't have to do it again.
  13. Thank you for your response! His degree has changed since early May that we had the first x-ray. He is now at 22 degrees. The doctor is not a pediatric orthopedist but I chose him, because he seemed to have experience with scoliosis from a web search. I guess it's a good advice to get maybe a second opinion.
