  1. Found a recipe on pinterest for philly cheesesteak sloppy joes....sounded good to me!
  2. Guilty. I had a mini twix first thing this morning. I'll have to eat something green for lunch, like maybe a blow pop....
  3. I had good luck with oil pulling as well. I did this during pregnancy when I had problems with my gums. Worked really well, very cheap and easy. Sounds crazy but it really did work. My teeth ended up very white, as a bonus. I also have use a waterpik.
  4. Mummy stromboli, mummy dogs, fruit salad, salad, and slime punch. It's a kid party at our house. :)
  5. #1, DH and my mom #2 and 3, just DH. (Well, we had medical staff there, too, for all 3.)
  6. Potty train your cat. No, seriously, we did that with our cat and it worked great. It took about a week and he could use the toilet. (Couldn't flush, obviously, we had to do that for him.) We did this when he was about 3 years old, so he'd been using the box for a while, and he transitioned without a problem. All you need is a foil roasting pan, flushable litter, and a little time. Google it, it's pretty neat. :)
  7. When I drop meals off to someone, I never expect to be asked in. When people have dropped meals off to me, I usually try to invite them in to see the baby for a minute, no one has ever stayed more than 5 minutes. And yes, usually one of our kids is nearly nude.
  8. I've had my period a whopping 8 times since my oldest was born 7 1/2 years ago. I didn't start my cycle until I had weaned completely, and then it was irregular (as in skipping months) and then I was pregnant again. So, I nursed #1 for 23 months, #2 for 28, and now I'm nursing #3, who is 18 months old. No period yet. Can't really complain. I also think that my work schedule has something to do with it. I work nights a few days a week and I think that having my sleep consistently disrupted affects my cycle.
  9. My showers are short, usually because I'm running late. Sad, huh? I can be showered, dressed, and have my hair done in 15 minutes. It's like an art form, really.
  10. Wouldn't it be nice if more people would just smile, nod, and keep their opinions to themselves? From one prn RN to another, I feel your pain. Sometimes I think that people who aren't in healthcare don't understand the physical/emotional toll that a 12 hour shift entails. I took the "work every weekend" route when I switched from full time a couple of years ago. Huge pain in the rear to be gone every weekend, don't do it. Seriously. It's been really difficult to spend all week at home, doing homeschool, watching the kids, doing all the housework, etc. and then go to work all weekend. It's like never getting a day off. Good job on doing what is right for you and your family. :grouphug:
  11. It's a personal decision, of course, but it would be my preference, especially with everything that can be done with home hospice. I'm a nurse and I've cared for dying patients in the hospital many times. As much as you try, it's not the same as being home. I heard a saying once that said that a house isn't a home until it has seen a birth, a marriage, and a death.
  12. I have a cleaning lady who comes every other week. :blushing: We hired her when I started working weekends. I work every weekend, DH works during the week. We have 1-2 evenings a week when our schedules overlap and I don't want to have to do chores while we are all home. Lousy schedule, but it is what it is. Having someone clean makes life a lot nicer around here, and it's nice to know that every 2 weeks things are getting a thorough deep clean. I still have to keep the house picked up and do some cleaning in between. I try to do 1-2 loads of laundry per day. Kids help with pcking up and vacuuming. I keep the kitchen clean. DH helps and he's responsible for keeping the house picked up on the weekends.
  13. Yep. We took our kid out of PS this year and have had to be very diplomatic when asked the inevitable "why?" questions. People can be so touchy. :glare:
  14. Amity and Matilda. Can't use either, DH said no (and never had a girl, so it's a moot point.) Matilda is a family name....I have 3 great-grandmothers named Matilda. Weird, no?
  15. My DS loved Children of the Longhouse (Iroquois nation, has twin boy/girl protagonists) and Sign of the Beaver, which I see you already have planned.
  16. We only have 4 weeks under our belt at this point....but so far.... Hits: WWE and FLL - can't believe how much he likes these and how much he is retaining. Totally painless. I've been so impressed at how quickly he is able to memorize. MM and LoF - Math is good so far. He thinks Fred is hilarious. MM is going well and moving at a good pace for him. BFSU - We love it. Misses: Spelling - no particular curriculum, just the entire subject. DS has some sort of "I hate to spell" complex right now. Makes no sense, he's a great speller. We're working on this.
  17. So far we've done spelling and grammar daily (along with math.) I think he's retaining things better this way. We'll see. :001_smile:
  18. We get the flu shot every year. Two of the family have asthma, I work in the ER and get a lot of exposure to ick. This is our first year of homeschool, I'm hoping that only having one kid in preschool and eliminating the public school exposure will help a bit.
  19. We exchange gifts with parents/parents-in-law and my sibling and his wife. We give gifts to nieces/nephews and my husbands siblings and their spouses but they do not reciprocate. And that is okay with me. I like to buy presents. DH isn't quite so thrilled with all the gifting but he certainly never complains when he receives a gift so I don't take his protestations very seriously. :tongue_smilie:
  20. We're in York County, new to the homeschooling scene here. :001_smile:
  21. As a kid we always ate at the table....normally the kitchen table, occasionally the dining room. We now eat most of our meals at the kitchen table. Just like growing up, we occasionally use our dining room, usually on holidays or Sundays or when we have company. The TV is off for meals except for maybe twice a year when will eat in front of the TV (for some kind of TV event) and have snacks for dinner (called a "snibble platter" in our family for reasons unknown.:tongue_smilie:)
  22. Leftover enchiladas for the kids and leftover soup for me. (We like leftovers...and the kids finished all the lunch meat yesterday.)
