  1. :iagree: :iagree:Your family now is you, your husband, and your children. That's where your responsibilty is.
  2. Scarlet runner beans germinate and grow quickly. I remember doing a project with my now 24-year-old when she was little.
  3. I voted 2 to 5 performances. My husband and I perform in many more, but I didn't count them. If time and budget permitted, I would love to go to the performing arts center once a week.:)
  4. Hi, I'm Judy. I've been married 31 years to my high school sweetheart and have 5 kids. We have homeschooled for 20 years. I have graduated 3 so far. My oldest will be graduating from medical school in May, and I have 2 in college: an electrical engineering major and an art major. My youngest 2 are in 9th and 10 grades. I read TWTM years ago and found these boards a couple of years ago. After lurking 2 years and learning soooooo much, I decided to join in on the fun.:001_smile:
  5. :iagree:The teacher's job is to teach. It's a wonder anyone learns anything at all in these public schools, with this kind of nonsense going on. The pepper spray may have saved the kid's life, if he learns a lesson from it. Next time it just may be a gun. Unfortunately, because of the mother's response, he may only learn that he can get away with anything and suffer no consequences.
  6. Plaese don't give up on Christianity just yet. Instead of focusing on the faults of mere sinners, focus on God and His love for you. Have you been reading your Bible? Ask God to help you understand, and search the scritures daily for wisdom and understanding (Acts 17:11). Praying for you.
  7. Yes. Homeschooldiploma.com does a great job with announcements and diplomas. We've graduated three so far and have been very pleased with their products.
  8. Does anyone belong to this? They supposedly send you cooking products to test and keep for free. Do they actually send anything worth while? I'm just wondering, "what's the catch?"
  9. There have been many times when God has provided, and always in the nick of time. One time, when we had bills to pay and no money to pay them, we thought my husband would have to quit school and we'd have to move in with family. For no particular reason:), several people sent us checks, saying that God had laid it on their hearts to do so (we hadn't said anything to anyone about the situation). When we totaled the checks, the amount was, to the nickel, what we needed that month! God is so good!
  10. My oldest daughter used the 1st edition of Conceptual Chemistry years ago, as soon as it was published. She loved it so much that chemistry became her favorite subject! She went on to college as a pre med major, and did very well in her science classes there. She's now getting ready to graduate from med school. I would say the couse is quite adequate!
  11. I've never heard of such a thing, but it makes sense. I'm gonna try it!:)
  12. My husband invented The Paci-Snatcher for a couple of ours who were reluctant to give up their pacifiers (kind of like the tooth fairy in reverse).:D At a certain age (determined by us), they were told, the paci-snatcher would come to take away their paci. It was all in fun, and you'd need to be careful with it, but mine actually looked forward to the event. It meant they were growing up. I fondly remember my youngest waking up one morning and proudly telling me, "Mommy, the paci-snatcher came last night!" Oh, what sweet memories.
  13. Mine take it three times, beginning in 9th grade. I agree that the test is so inexpensive that it is well worth it in order for them to be comfortable in the environment, etc. when it really counts. My kids have always been homeschooled, so the classroom setting is foreign to them. I haven't had any National Merit Scholars, but I have had one Commended, and so far they have scored well enough on the SAT to get scholarships to pay for college. I think the extra practice is very beneficial.
  14. I've graduated 3 so far, and they have all gotten full ride scholarships. They have to keep their grades up to keep the scholarships, and this motivates them to do well in their studies. Any incidental expenses, we just pay for.
  15. I'm 51. Homeschooling 20 years, graduated 3 so far.My oldest graduates from medical school in May. I have a college junior, a college freshman, and I am still homeschooling my14 and 15 year-olds.
  16. :bigear: I also have a son interested in Russian. I've considered Rosetta Stone, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions out there?
  17. The fact that he completely blew it off and said he saw nothing wrong with playing these games in youth group would be a huge red flag for me. What happened to glorifying God in whatever we do? Sounds to me like an immature man leading an unexamined life. All too common in churches today. I'd be looking for another church. I'm a Baptist, by the way.
  18. Flutist here. No degree, but music was my life in highschool (where I met my musician husband of 31 years). We play duets professionally. I also play at church and sing soprano in our church choir.
  19. There doesn't seem to be any justice when it comes to these monstrous animals. We had neighbors whose pit bulls attacked our golden retriever (thankfully she wasn't killed), and killed numerous neighborhood pets. Every time a pit bull was taken away from them, these people woud just get another one! Thank God their house was foreclosed on and they moved away!
  20. I guess it depends on the division. Ours is one of the best. Check out www.seacadets.org
