  1. I had better than 20/20 vision most of my life until 3-4 years ago. My eyesight started declining pretty quickly. I started with Walmart readers, then on to progressive bifocal glasses. I never adjusted to the progressives. I hated them. Last year I moved to separate glasses for reading and distance. I've done well with them but glasses on and off all day long is a hassle. Now I'm considering bifocal contacts. Please share the pros and cons you've experienced. Thanks!
  2. Dd's 1-credit labs have been her most difficult and time-consuming classes/exams. She is a nursing major and all the science classes (chem, A &P, micro) seem designed to weed out. She is reminded ALL the time "The nursing program is very competitive." It's become our not-so funny little joke.
  3. I'm glad you asked this! I'm having the same problem and I also thought ankle boots would not go with trouser style pants.
  4. I like the oils from Young Living, doTerra, Plant Therapy and Aromatics International. I do not believe YL and doTerra oils are the only high quality oils on the market but they do have some things I love that I can't get other places. I usually buy from Plant Therapy first.
  5. I'm a kitchen gadget junkie. I don't want flowers, perfume, jewelry, etc. I'd like clothing but I know dh can't pick out what I want or need. One year I got a mixer, another year the Instant Pot. I've asked for a mortar/pestle, ladles. This year I thought about an air fryer or a steam cleaner. I love getting practical gifts that serve me in our home because that's where I spend most of my time. It's where I've invested my life. The difference with the OP, though, is that she does not appreciate those types of gifts and her husband should probably know that by now.
  6. Our foster baby just had his tongue tie corrected last week! At his newborn appointment, the doctor said he noticed the TT and wanted us to keep an eye on baby's feeding (bottle). Baby did have feeding issues initially but they seemed to have resolved (althought baby was always gassy and kind slurpy/gulpy with the bottle). At his 10 week appt, the other doctor in the practice said it looked like a pretty significant TT and referred us to an ENT. The ENT said it definitely would affect speech and should be done. It was done at 12 weeks old. Baby handled it well...it was quick. He was able to take a bottle or a pacifier right away.
  7. We have friends and family in Cary, Raleigh, Apex, Fuquay-Varina. All of them are transplants from far away and they all love it in NC.
  8. Those of you who received a new blade...does it seem thinner to you? My old blade feels more weighty. Also, the new one was ever so slightly bent. :( It works fine, though.
  9. Yes! The fabric ones stay clean longer and are very easy to clean in the washing machine.
  10. Our Speed Queen has been awesome. It's been over 5 yrs.
  11. I use my 6 cup(?) Cuisinart several times a week. Hummus, salsa, refried beans, shredded carrots, etc. It's one of my top two appliances. I wish it was bigger but it's done the job for almost 20 yrs.
  12. I recently bought my son two slim-fit dress shirts from Kohl's, size 10-12 or 12-14. I'll check the brand and post tomorrow. The shirts are Chaps brand, sz 10-12. My ds16 weighs 92 lbs so he's pretty slim. Looks great with or without a tie.
  13. What kind of steamer do you have? I had a HAAN years ago and it was great but died after only one year. Then I tried Eureka and I was never happy with the results. I borrowed my brother's McCulloch and it was too cumbersome and I don't think it cleaned exceptionally well.
  14. Vegan here. I've had my IP for 3 yrs and use it all the time. Definitely get it. :) There is a Vegan IP group on FB if you're interested. I don't make recipes that call for 3 min. here, release, 5 more min, release, etc either, BUT Nussinow's cooking time charts in the book are the most accurate I've seen and the book is worth it to me for the charts alone. Otherwise, don't even worry about buying any cookbooks now. There are so many recipes on the web and youtube.
  15. I had the same reaction when Matthew died. I tried 2-3 episodes after that (months later) and the show had lost its appeal for me. I've considered going back and trying to get into it again but not sure it's worth it. It was my only show. :( I haven't read any other replies but I think I will now. Maybe someone will have a compelling reason to try again. I adore John Bates and if anything happens to him I definitely won't go back to the show.
  16. Dd ended up being paid $40 for 3 hrs. So not quite the $15 that the woman said. We live in the mid-Atlantic. I think $15 is a lot but I guess reasonable for our area.
  17. I usually use: soy sauce or tamari a little maple syrup squeeze of lime That's it. Sometimes I'll add sambal oolek for some heat but not always. I add garlic and black pepper when I'm making the stirfry. I almost always use frozen vegetables for stirfry. That's what makes it an easy meal to throw together; no pre-planning on what vegetables to buy. I do use a fresh onion and I almost always add sauteed mushrooms that I've frozen in one cup containers.
  18. Update: Dd said $10 and the mom said "We usually pay $15." ??? I'll let you know how much she got when I find out.
  19. Just get a Speed Queen dryer. I couldn't justify it because my dryer still works great. But if it ever goes, I'm getting a SQ. I consider my SQ washer one of our best purchases EVER.
  20. Dd just texted that the mom wants to know how much Dd charges. She had no idea what to say because she hasn't babysat as a job for strangers in the past.
  21. I appreciate everything you said here. All of it. Thank you. :iagree:
  22. Agreeing. I have both. I would not want to be without my food processor.
  23. My baby girl (firstborn) turned 18 yesterday! I don't remember when Emily was born. We started here a few years later. But Happy Birthday to both of our amazing daughters!
