  1. We've never done it and the vet has never suggested it.
  2. I don't care for breakfast food or sweet stuff either. I usually have soup or a potato topped with salsa. I would love hashbrowns but don't have time in the morning. A lot of people are starting to get into savory oats. I'm planning to try those too. I don't like oatmeal but I think I'd like them if they were savory. I love Teva! My mother needs good support and she has recently started wearing Teva more.
  3. Not being able to soak would probably be a deal-breaker for me. Definitely something to consider.
  4. I think the new SQ will still be superior to other machines so I'd go with it. I have the old manual SQ (which I love so much!) If I have to replace it someday I will buy whatever SQ I can get my hands on.
  5. I'm so happy to hear this! I just bought DevaCurl Supercream and I don't like it at all. It was the first time I shopped there. I love the DevaCurl Decadence Conditioner and B'Leave In.
  6. I actually started with Fuhrman and liked it but found it a little harder to sustain. I love fruits and vegetables but the starch aspect of McDougall helped satisfy my hunger more. I think they are both great approaches.
  7. Attiola, I first stumbled upon McDougall 9 years ago when I was researching auto-immune diseases. My daughter had just been diagnosed with vitiligo at age 9 and my son, because of Trisomy 21, is predisposed to a thyroid condition. My daughter's condition does not follow a predictable progression so there is no way to confirm whether this "diet" has helped her BUT she has had NO progression of symptoms...most people don't even know she has it. My son's thyroid is still in a healthy place and he is quite lean, unlike his Trisomy 21 peers who are already battling obesity in their teens. This way of eating has helped many with MS, RA, lupus, diabetes, heart dieseas, etc. We didn't come to McDougall for weight loss. It's just been a nice bonus for me. It's always been about a healthy future for myself and my kids.
  8. My only point in posting was to clear up misconceptions about the McDougall diet for people who are curious about it. I'd hate for someone to dismiss it because they got inaccurate information, especially if this way of eating could help with some health issue they are battling. McDougall is a practicing MD, not a diet guru. He's been saying the same thing for 30+ years. ALL of his info is available for free. That's not bread and butter. Most people who adopt this way of eating find it liberating and they have no desire to go back to the Standard American Diet. I believe people arrive when they are ready and not until then. I rarely discuss my food choices in real life. To each his own. But if someone asks, like here, I'm happy to share.
  9. We're talking about the McDougall diet, which has been around for at least 30 years. His message has not changed, people have reversed disease, regained health and acheived sustainable weight loss with healthy bloodwork to back it up. It's based on long-lived populations who have followed this way of eating for generations. Only when these groups move toward a more westernized diet does their health begin to deteriorate. I agree with you about the unsustainability of fad diets but McDougall is not one of them. :)
  10. I just wanted to point out that McDougall does not promote cutting out all fats. He recommends that they be no more than 10% of your daily intake, especially if you are trying to lose weight. Nuts, seeds, avocados are often listed in the thousands of free recipes McDougall has offered. He promotes no added oils as your fats because they are devoid of nutrients, calorie dense and artery clogging. For those people who need to gain weight, increasing foods that are naturally higher in fat like avocados, nuts and seeds is almost always the first recommendation that he makes.
  11. I follow McDougall because 1) I believe it is a nutritionally superior way of eating. 2) I personally have found it to be the most hunger-satisfying "diet". Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn has a lot to say about why we should not consume oil. It is devoid of nutrients, high in fat and calories and bad for your cardiovascular system. Giving up oil (in salad dressing) was the only difficult aspect of this way of eating. But it probably has had the biggest impact on my ability to control my weight with little effort.
  12. We know several people who have moved to the Cary area. Some parts are busy but others are spread out. We also know people in Apex and Fuquay-Varina. They all love it there. My friend is an agent in that area if you are looking for someone.
  13. I told dh I wanted one inexpensive all-purpose knife for Christmas. He bought me one but before Christmas came, there was a Chef knife on sale at Aldi for $9.99. I bought it as a back-up to the "good" one and it's been awesome. I use it more than the Victorinox he bought for me.
  14. As an English major in college, I had to take a course in Speculative Fiction. I was not happy. Sci-fi is not my genre. I was unexpectedly intrigued by Left Hand of Darkness but totally captivated by The Wind's Twelve Quarters, which is where I first read The Ones Who Walk Away...I recently got the book again from my library because I remembered how much I had been moved by those stories.
  15. If it's food, my son will most likely eat it. I have a hard time throwing food away if it isn't spoiled. Usually it's tea and I will put it back in the pantry. I will either drink it occasionally to see if my tastes have changed or find someone to give it to. I currently have a fennel tea that has been in my pantry for 2+ years. It was not cheap but it is so awful I can't drink it (and I really like fennel!) Every time I plan to throw it away I think of the $$ and guilt compels me to try it again. :glare:
  16. I don't like how church seems to be an event, a program. I don't know if I can explain how I feel better than that. I have no problem with the people. I have felt drawn for some time to a more liturgical service.
  17. This describes where I am exactly. I don't expect churches to be perfect but I think there is something very wrong with how church has evolved to its current state. We've been out for a couple of years, although we've tried several times to find a new congregation. They all seem to be the same, regardless of denomination. And I don't like it.
  18. I've never heard of many of the ones shared here! I'll have to check them out. We usually get Territiorial, Burpee and Gurnee's.
  19. You expressed this so well. Thank you.
  20. Thanks! Had you already taken A&P 2 or just 1? Dd wants to take the TEAS next month while she's in A&P 2. Micro won't be until Sept.
  21. Thank you SeaConquest! I wouldn't have thought to check Facebook. Did you order any of the official prep materials or practice tests?
  22. I had no idea Ulta had a brow bar! I've been planning to go in there to look at some DevaCurl products but I desperately need my brows done. I've had my nails done once--for my sister's wedding. Never again. Never had a pedicure, although I probably could use one.
  23. I'm getting ready to order the TEAS test and looking for recommendations.
  24. Thank you, everyone. The decision was kind of made for me. My benefits were getting ready to expire and the eye place could not schedule the contact appointment and the training before the end of the year so I decided to stay with separate glasses for now. I will continue to research. I appreciate all of your input!
