  1. I think it's more of a state/school misreading the constitution than a Sonlight problem. There should be no issue with the state funding a curriculum that contains religion for an INDIVIDUAL family if that state says that they will reimburse. Sure they couldnt' sell to a public school for use in the classroom but to an individual it should be permitted. To me letting a homeschool family choose whichever curriculum they want is freedom OF religion vs. the school's freedom FROM religion. Also, if a state has a voucher program to let students choose which school they want to attend using public funds, a homeschooling family choosing whichever curriculum they wish should be no different. I'm not a fan of Sonlight doing this because they shouldn't need to. I also think it's ironic to use SONlight curriculum seculraly.
  2. Have you looked at Singapore math? They teach math the way your daughter seems to do it. That might be more I defendant than RS.
  3. I like this lol. You could try Disney. They have a campground but also restaurants. You could hop on the Disney transportation and go to any of their restaurants. That would save you from cooking. They don't have indoor pools but a nice outdoor pool with water slide and a kiddie water area. They also have cabins to rent so you wouldn't have to stay in a tent. The campground has an outdoor movie every night and sing along with Chip and Dale.
  4. I highly recommend the Marriott time share properties. We've stayed at the Harbour Lakes and Grande Vista. We've also stayed at Bonnet Creek and really enjoyed our stay.
  5. My (almost) 6 yr old wants to be an astronaut, ballerina, clothing designer, librarian, police officer, baker, and zoo keeper. I think she's going to be a missionary (scares the bejeezus out of me).
  6. Just use the pictures in the book. I wouldn't spend money on a scale. I just use the review at the end of the book. I still right next to dd, though, just to keep her on track and focused.
  7. In Grandmas Attic is another good series. We also read a lot of the Wizard of Oz books.
  8. Amelia Bedelia! I was excited to find that they just started making chapter books. There are 2 out now and a third is on its way. They're about Amelia Bedilia when she was a child.
  9. He might be ready. My son has been telling us for months after he uses his diaper but will not train! Good luck!
  10. So I know for next year, when do they start this? I would love to give her time to do the practices.
  11. I sit right there unless its spelling or sometimes handwriting. I don't even think about walking away during math.
  12. Well level 5 is still just pick the right word. Dd is doing really well. If she had to type in the letters I don't know if she'd get more than 1-2 per minute. I had her do some of the math practice and I doubt she'll want to do it tomorrow. She just can't type it in fast enough.
  13. In IL she would be in K. They have a very strict Sept 1 cut off.
  14. Dd is doing this now. Is the whole thing just reading words?
  15. Which isn't much. They could have made cuts in other places but they wanted to make it look like it was the other sides fault.
  16. Woodridge is a nice area. My DH lived there before we got married. COL isn't too bad. You could get a nice house for under $250k. If you go a little farther south for housing you could find something for a lot less. We now live about 20 minutes south of Woodridge. Pm me if you would like to know where. You could get a really nice house near us for 174k or even less at the moment. Gas in the burbs is right around $4 a gallon right now. We have excellent libraries too.
  17. We had that happen a few times. We ended up moving the unit to the other side of the tv and its working fine now. I don't think you can get Amazon n the Wii. You can get Hulu now though.
  18. We used IVF for our DD. I was an emotional wreck. Those hormones wreak havoc on your emotions. I remember one day while we were waiting to find out if I was pregnant crying and crying because I wanted pizza for supper and some people didn't. I thought I was going nuts. Lol. It can be somewhat humiliating because you have to start the monitoring process while you have your period. Worry is constantly present throughout the entire pregnancy. The joy kind of takes a backseat to worry. You can't forget even for a brief time what you're going through. It's always on your mind. While I was waiting to see if the procedure worked it would have been nice if someone had brought us a meal or two (you're supposed to take it really easy and some doctors say bed rest.) Try to help them not lose hope. Just because you need IVF once doesn't mean you'll need it again. Of course this depends on the reason for the IVF. I know a lot of people that have had a spontaneous conception after having gone through IVF previously, myself included. My DS is not a fertility baby.
  19. I agree with this. We tried WWE this year but dd was not ready for it.
  20. If you just want the basic Bible stories I'd go with a Children's Bible. I would stick with reading them in order.
  21. We pay about 20% of take home pay. That does not include taxes or insurance. We pay $500 for taxes per month approximately. About 2 years ago we refinanced into a 20 year loan which cut 4 yrs off of our loan. I wish we could refi again but there is no way they'd appraise our house as high as they did last time. When we built 9 years ago our house cost $236K and our loan was for $180k. I think we still owe around $150k.
