  1. I definitely plan to watch the tutorials, both the official and unofficial ones. In response to your other post (because I forgot to multiquote and am too lazy to go back), it's true that Affinity, like Photoshop, is a powerful program with quite a learning curve. However, some people can dive right in. I learned on PaintShop Pro, which isn't as professional as full Photoshop or Affinity, but still has a lot of features that would make a beginner scratch his head. There are some simple things these programs can do, and that's how I started. You can start out doing the easy stuff like adjusting light, color, etc., letting it do automatic stuff then seeing what it did you know what to do yourself in the future, then ion your own schedule learn the more involved features a little at a time. To me, I'd rather pay once for a program, do what I can with it and learn as I go. Others will find it's a YMMV thing. I downloaded the Designer for Windows beta some months ago, but graphic design isn't my passion. It's still a great program, but I was waiting anxiously for the Photo for Windows release. That's the one I really wanted. I'm so excited it's finally here.
  2. I love SimplyRecipes. No storytelling except an occasional "here's where this recipe came from". Great recipes, been around since the early 2000s. Not Pioneer Woman at all.
  3. I don't know about the number. We only stopped in for a few things on our way home, so I thought it would be a good time to try it. The lady at the door counted our items. I was skeptical because scanning apps can be notoriously fussy about how you hold the phone. This one did a great job, even on frozen items that had some condensation on them - that's sometimes a problem with the self pay registers.
  4. I tried the Sams app today. I LOVE IT! It scans your items quickly and easily. Dh thought we still had to go to the register and show my phone receipt, and was really impressed when I said we could just show it to the person at the door.
  5. It's not cheap or free but Corel Paintshop Pro is a good alternative to Photoshop Elements. Also, you didn't say what OS you have, but if you have a Mac, consider Affinity Photo. There's a beta version for Windows which I downloaded but haven't had a chance to play with.
  6. Oh I forgot that both Sams and BJ's have them (we don't have Costco nearby). I use it there too. I haven't used the app at Sams yet but I keep meaning to give it a try.
  7. I looked her up and still don't really know who she is. She seems happy though.
  8. Property taxes aren't bad. Base sales tax is 6% but many cities and/or counties have added to that for various projects. Some have a tourist tax on things like hotel rooms, car rentals, etc. Gas tax is almost 37 cents per gallon over and above the federal tax.
  9. Same here. Also there are probably 2 dozen (I've never counted) registers at my Walmart but rarely more than about half a dozen open at any given time.
  10. Walmart is the only place in my area that has them. I love them.
  11. That's where they should go. ;) Dh grew some in his garden this year. I told him he's welcome to cook them however he wants them. I'm staying away. My mother used to try to get us to eat them by mixing them in with mashed potatoes thinking my brother and I would never know they were there. We knew. We always knew.
  12. I have three high school friends I keep in touch with. High school for me was over 40 years ago, so defintiely long time friends. We all live in the general area (two of us in the same town) and get together a few times a year. I have another friend I've known for 30 years - we were roommates and in each others' weddings. We keep in touch though she lives on the other side of the state now. We also try to get together a few times a year. My closest friends currently are from the homeschool community and we've known each other for as long as 12 years and as little as 5 years.
  13. I've never read Wodehouse. I love Austen but what I love about her novels is her social satire so I don't know if that's Flufferton.
  14. I love ours. I suspect I'd love it even more if we had a smart home. There are several different news sources available, so you aren't limited to just NPR. You can look here at the Skills categories to see what it can do for you. Browse or click on Categories and look at the different skills areas. We use ours mostly for: -shopping lists -to do lists -timers -listening to music - it has several options as you can see under Skills, but I usually listen to Prime Music -asking what's on the calendar - our Echo is paired with our Google Calendar but there are other choices -news updates -weather -traffic - I haven't figured out how to use this efficiently yet because I think you have to put in your destination each time -I sometimes have it read my current Audible book to me, but not often. I usually prefer to listen through my blue tooth headphones because the rest of the family doesn't necessarily want to hear my audio book. I only use Echo for this when I'm home alone. I live in a small city so ordering local food and other things isn't an option for us and we don't use Uber. I haven't tried using it to reorder something from Amazon yet, but that might change this week when I have to reorder cat litter genie refills.
  15. Things have probably changed since the 1980s but when I was visiting England in 1986 I developed an allergic rash to something. I went to a local doctor and though I was prepared to either pay up front or be billed, I never was. The doctor told me that as a visitor I wasn't going to be charged. I can understand paying for non-emergency treatment and based on travel books I read I did expect to pay for my doctor visit, but I only had to pay for the cream I was prescribed. My situation wasn't an emergency. I think it's disgraceful that here in the U.S. we bill foreign visitors for emergency treatment, especially if the cause wasn't the foreigner's fault (such as a mugging or other crime related injury).
  16. Yes because I'd feel like I raised him to stand up for his beliefs, even if I disagreed with those beliefs.
  17. I would have wanted my middle schooler to let me know it was happening (tell me in advance if possible). Other than that, I'd be proud.
  18. Oh damn. I heard about Cohen, but not Leon Russell. So sad.
  19. Feel better Stacia and Onceuponatime (and anyone else I might have missed). :seeya: shukriyya - Good to see you. Glad you popped in. JennW, I've been hiding in fictional worlds. My online time has been mostly spent on Goodreads, Amazon kindle forums, and here. I might just live in this world forever. I didn't realize that the Grantchester book is a collection of short stories. Apparently they made full episodes out of each story, though I thought each episode was based on a full novel. The stories are okay, not great (the tv series is actually better imo), but it's good when I want something quick to read. I started listening to One Corpse Too Many, the second Brother Cadfael book. I downloaded Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man free from Audible, but I couldn't get into it. I'll try again another time.
  20. LOL no but I keep meaning to. It's just not high on the priority list. :D
  21. I read it a few years ago mainly because I was following a rabbit trail. I wanted to read the novel Catherine was reading in Northanger Abbey and when I did research I read that I should start with Walpole then work my way to Ann Radcliffe (Catherine's favorite). I thought it was melodramatic and silly too and because of that I never made it further in my attempts to read the novels Catherine would have read. I suppose it was scary in its time.
  22. I finished The Sunne In Splendor last night. Loved it. Here's my Goodreads review.
  23. Yes it can but it's unlikely that it will.
  24. That's the one thing I don't like about binge watching a show that hasn't yet ended its run.
