  1. Dss and ddil hosted, and we got sent home with just the right amount of leftovers. The only thing I miss is the turkey carcass for soup.
  2. It depends on if she wants an e-ink reader or a tablet Kindle. If e-ink is what she has and/or would like, then yes it's a good deal. In February of this year I got a refurbished Paperwhite for $119, which was a good price at the time. So, $99 for a new one is definitely good. You can also get a refurbished one for only $79. Refurbished comes with the same warranty, and sometimes it just means someone bought it and returned it so they can't sell it as new. It doesn't necessarily mean something was wrong with it and they "refurbished" it. There is also a newer e-ink Kindle called the Voyage and the newer Oasis, but they come with higher prices. If the Kindle she has now is an e-ink one and she's happy with it, go with the Paperwhite.
  3. Mostly big ticket stuff that I won't be getting - -A new laptop. My 7yo one still works but it's getting tired and at some point it's not going to be compatible with OS upgrades. I'd rather not wait until it dies to replace it. -A new dslr camera - preferably a Canon Rebel -Possibly and Instant Pot, I'm still trying to decide if I want one. -An adjustable dress form for sewing More realistic list items - -This Harry Potter board game. I played it at a friend's house and enjoyed it. I especially like that it's a cooperative game. I prefer cooperative over competitive games. -Sets of flameless candles -A ticket to see Wicked when it comes to Orlando in January (I've seen it and want to see it again) -Always Amazon gift cards -A mani-pedi gift certificate -A massage gift certificate
  4. I hardly ever use my crock pot anymore. In fact, I don't cook big meals much at all anymore, so I can't decide if an IP is worth it. We hardly ever eat together now. Dh and ds have such abnormal schedules these days that I often make simply meals we can grab at different times. Soup. tacos, pulled pork, and other easily reheated dishes. Or main dish salads. Any thoughts on whether or not an IP is worth it for me?
  5. :grouphug: Hugs to all dealing with this. :grouphug: I remember how difficult that first holiday season was. It can take several years of holidays before you're able to accept it. The pain doesn't go away but it does get easier to handle.
  6. Yes, it was even on the nightly news all the way here on the east coast. This was before the internet and when CNN (the first 24 hour news network) was still weeks away from launching. And still the danger was known and reported. Plus there have been major improvements in both predicting and understanding volcanoes since then. I would agree with those who say earthquakes are more of a concern.
  7. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Wishing my fellow American BaW friends a lovely day today. We had our celebration yesterday because dss has to work today. We had a blast playing with the grandkids. We were sent home with leftovers (dss and ddil hosted) so we'll nibble today. Later this afternoon dh and I plan to go see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Ds hasn't decided yet if he wants to go with us.
  8. I'd take all three actually - red wine, dark chocolate, and a good book. :) :grouphug: Rose and Mom-ninja :grouphug: Robin, I'm glad your dh is okay.
  9. Happy Belated Birthday, Robin! Good books + good wine. Nothing else needed to make it a good day.
  10. Thank you for the replies. I think I'll choose make ahead today and bake it at home tomorrow before we leave. My main concern was not so much the one hour drive but that we'll be there for several hours before it's time to eat. If we leave here at 10:30 I have to take it out of the oven in time to wrap it for travel. And we're not eating until around 2:00. Hopefully I can pack it so it stays warm.
  11. That's kind of a boring commercial even though it gets the point across. It could have been a fun ad. People remember the unique/fun ads so much more than dull ones.
  12. I would agree that it depends on your family size and whether or not you need the room. That does sound like a lot of boxes for you to store. When dss moved out we kept his room as-is. It was his home and he was always welcome. However there were no other kids, and when ds was born we did have another room for him after we put him out of our bedroom. When we sold that house was when dss had to finally get all of his stuff and either toss it, take it, or store it. We do have a spare bedroom here and he was always welcome, but it wasn't actually "his" room. My recommendation - move to another house. LOL. J/K Actually, I'd say be willing to store some things but not all. She should go through some of those boxes and make the hard decisions to keep or toss. Have a place for her to sleep if she ever needs to come back for some reason, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the room that was always hers.
  13. One of the things I'm bringing to our Thanksgiving gathering (which is tomorrow for us due to dss' work schedule) is my sweet potato casserole. They live an hour away and we're leaving around 10:30 but dinner isn't until 2. Only one oven is available but we might be able to juggle some items after the turkey comes out, while it rests.
  14. That's the reason I'm okay with Space Mountain - because I can't see. I can also ride The Mummy at Universal for the same reason. Roller coasters where I can see what's coming? No way. Like, you I enjoy IMAX movies and rides like Soarin'.
  15. If it's more available than human Lowe's employees I'm all for it. It's next to impossible to get help in our local Lowe's stores. When I did secret shopping I got to the point where I turned down Lowe's jobs. You were supposed to find an employee a few aisles away from the product you were asking about, and I would spend too much time looking for someone to ask.
  16. Oh, I missed that you were doing that. I thought you were only going to choose one park.
  17. Yep, definitely something to be reported. Glad your dh did that. Our city has automated pick-up. We have one large trash can and one large recycle bin. Trash is weekly and recycle is biweekly. Before they went to automated, trash collection was twice a week and recycle weekly.
  18. The onsite hotels will have shuttles or a boat that takes you to the parks. Many offsite hotels have free shuttles to the theme parks. If you stay at one of the resorts Iyou can get early admission and a few of them also have Express Passes as part of the benefits. If you don't plan on doing both parks you'll have to decide if you want to see Hogwarts and Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley and Platform 9-3/4. They're in two separate parks. I'd go for the former since it's the original. It's at Islands of Adventure.
  19. Our Walmart sells/exchanges the SodaStream CO2 bottles. If you buy it, it costs $30, and it's kept in the section where they stock the SodaStream appliances (is it an appliance or a gadget?) and flavors. If you exchange it's half the cost, and you do that at the service desk. Of course you do have to buy one to begin with, but after that you can just exchange them. We bought two so we always have one on hand if we forget to bring the empty in for exchange.
  20. I have a pair of (not wireless) over the ear Sony headphones. While the sound quality is nice, I find them to be uncomfortable. I wear glasses and over the ear headphones press on the temples (arms) and give me a headache.
  21. All three of us got new frames this past summer. Ds and I got ones that came with three different sunglass clips - regular, blue blocking, and 3D. They're called Sunlights and I would not recommend them. If you lose or damage one of the clips you can only replace them by buying all three again. Ugh. The frames cost around $300 and I'm sorry I paid that much for them. Dh got transition lenses and light weight wire frames. His frames cost around $200. I'd have to look up the paperwork to find a more exact cost, but I think I have it right. I didn't find that video I posted up thread until several months after we got ours. I will be more discerning next time we're due for new frames.
  22. I've seen them for as little as $70 up to over $500. It depends on the kind of frames you want and whether or not you want designer frames. The main difference is going to be price. BTW, I posted this on fb a while back. Choice is an illusion.
  23. We don't drink a lot of soda. We mainly use it when we get pizza delivery and want soda but don't want to pay pizza parlor prices. I can't say we love it but that's because we don't use it much.
