  1. The wayI understand it, teachers only get paid for the students who are present on that particular school day (or is it the school gets paid that way.) How does that work if there are no children present? And doesn't counting it misrepresent how many days of school the children actually get? :confused:
  2. :lol::lol: These are cracking me up. :D Ds(almost 6) thinks babies happen like they do in Minecraft: you feed any two animals wheat, hearts appear, and then POOF! a baby appears. He told me when we were reading about camels that you needed two girl camels to make a girl camel. :lol:
  3. :smilielol5: Chuck Norris doesn't run with scissors; scissors run away from Chuck Norris. :D
  4. I agree with taking a break. Is working later in the year, or even a year-round type schedule and option for your family? Or would the threat of doing school in the summer be enough to lite a fire under the kids' tails? :001_smile: Call who every you need to, but get your printer! Three weeks is long enough. :grouphug: I hope things get better.
  5. :eek: I have no idea. I know eating dry cornmeal will make an ant explode. Maybe it's something like that?
  6. :grouphug::grouphug: I can't imagine, but I can sympathize.
  7. Thank you, Hotdrink. I don't remember health/s3x ed covering that. But then, I was so embarrassed hearing that sort of thing in a classroom of boys and girls that I didn't pay attention.
  8. Good question! I'm guessing they did it during a time period that they weren't getting paid for.
  9. I have never understood how your husband's...teA spout broke the hymen, but tampons don't? :confused:
  10. I will never understand people who argue with/dictate to/cause trouble for the bride and groom at weddings. :glare: I stood my ground on my wedding choices (despite pressure and arguing from people who will remain nameless,) and I have no regrets. My sister got married in May, changed more things for other people than she kept of her original plan, and is still sighing with regrets over giving in. Tell your daughter that this is HER (and the groom's) wedding and it's what THEY want. Period.
  11. My friend who has a daughter in public school has mentioned a similar, strange schedule. I think every Monday (?) is shorter by an hour. How are working or even non-working parents suppose to cope with that? Her daughter spends a lot of time in extended day as a result. And she's how I found out they have extended day in the morning times, too.
  12. Builder Boy's 6th birthday is in November and we are getting him a plastic adjustable basketball hoop for the back patio and a bunch of pvc pipe for constructing contraptions and structures. For Chirstmas we are getting him the simple machines K'nex (he's never had K'nex toys before) and Snap Circuits. (I am getting my side of the family to pitch in to pay for those things as their gift.) For Early Bird's Christmas present (3 1/2 years old)...I have no idea. :confused: He already has all the toys he'd grow into through his big brother.
  13. Different countries and the different ways they celebrate Christmas? Although that would probably require research, and the participants might not want to do that. Why can't you do the carol theme again? That sounded really cool. Just tell people they can't do the same song again.
  14. The original post makes me think that something, or the suggestion of something, inappropriate happened between age groups that they're not sharing. But I'm a little bit paranoid like that. If the majority of the parents want to change it back, then I say get them together and go for it.
  15. I got 4 wrong. I thought the Catholics believed in salvation through faith alone, too. I knew that was a big change when protestantism was founded, but I guess I thought the Catholic church had changed. I had never heard of Maimonides. I got the first great awaking question wrong (was that different from the revivals?) ( I knew it wasn't Billy Graham.) And I didn't guess on Indonesia's main religion. Pretty proud of myself. :D
  16. :willy_nilly::svengo: I just filed my first California private school affidavit. We are legal now! I hope my blood pressure goes down because right now I'm still freaking out a little bit. Thank you so much to JenneinAZ for the reminder thread, fraidycat for the line-by-line help link (which I would have been a complete basket case without,) and all the other ladies responding to my panicked and confused comments. Thank you all for the help these past two years I've been on here for helping me feel ready!
  17. I saw this on Pinterest. You could make a dress-up wardrobe out of a big cardboard box and have hooks or loops for swords and weapons.
