  1. How about toys marketed specifically to one gender? This toy was linked on facebook and it annoyed some people because it seemed to suggest that if something isn't pink or cutesie that girls won't want to play with it.
  2. We're doing 1st grade, too, and it does feel weird somedays. Especially in the beggining. But my ds can tell anyone what he learned that day and my friend's public school daughter can't, I don't feel so bad.
  3. We do! But dh's family lives 5 minutes away, so it's not that difficult. The kids open presents from my side of the family (all out of state and too far to visit) and from dh and me. Then we go over to dh's parents for breakfast and the rest of the day. Dh has his parents, a sister, and a grandma, so his whole side fits in the in-law's living room.
  4. Mine don't know which one is the thumb. They also don't eat string cheese like regular kids. I tried to teach them the "right" way, but they wern't intersted.
  5. Have you tried Starfall.com? It is wonderful. And free (there is added content you can subscribe to for $35/year which is completely worth is and they have been adding more and more since the beginning of the year when I signed up.) I can NOT recommend it enough. They should pay me :tongue_smilie:
  6. :scared::svengo::thumbdown: Just kidding. ;) Just don't do it to MY books.
  7. A member on here has a blog and wrote some helpful posts on assessing reading levels. Here is one of the posts, and it links to another.
  8.:glare: No, no comment like that on my blog post from the tour. Sorry you had to deal with that.
  9. Aww, that's great! I'm prett y thrilled I got to teach my oldest how to read :D
  10. I know they had a wedding. I just don't think it was the scene eloquacious was thinking of. I just re-watched the wedding scene in the pilot and there was no father there talking about grandchildren. There is one, however, in episode 4, The Price of Gold at 26:15 of the episode.
  11. I think you're thinking of Cinderella's wedding. Clearly Charming and Snow were already married and back on the throne of their kingdom. I don't think they actually said the two princes were brothers. They were from different kingdoms, and the actor for the king/Cinderella's prince's dad is different from the Charming-"dad."
  12. I always thought the code name was suppose to be "Mom," but she wasn't ready to be called that yet.
  13. Same reason as scented pads? Although I always thought that was weird, too. "Oh, what perfume are you wearing?" "Always" :ack2:
  14. I was reading this to dh and the thought occurred to me that your dh must be doing a great job molding manly behavior for your son. :001_smile:
  15. :001_wub::001_wub::thumbup: That is so sweet! What a gentle, mature way to handle a crisis.
  16. He wouldn't go for a Jr. or II situation. He thought it would put to much pressure on the kid. Which turned out to be good, because Builder Boy is sooo not his father's name. :tongue_smilie:
  17. 68*F at night, sometimes 66*, but never below that. We have mild winters, most of the time.
  18. I hate the doctor's balance beam scales. :glare: My home scale is much nicer to me. I have one of the old adjustable ones.
  19. All of dh's family hated our girl name if ds#2 had been a girl. They bugged us to change it, but I didn't, because it's our choice, not theirs. It turned out to be a non-issue, and we have a different girl name picked out for next time, but I still would have gone through with it. I love your idea of picking mythology names :D
