  1. My DH went into a career that was his passion but has horrible hours and doesn't pay well. He has changed careers after many years of struggle. He has said many times that he wished his parents would has talked with him about it before went into the career. Not that he would have listened...
  2. BYU independent study has self paced courses. And tons of high school courses. The prices, I think, are average.
  3. I use SOTW with my middle school aged kids because they want to be included with the younger kids and family. I just add readings and outlining, etc as discussed in TWTM.
  4. My DH is a coach and really liked Mindset and Outliers, more on the mental stuff. There was some book about coaching girls too, but I forget what it is called. Many sports have training through their national organization, if interested in a specific sport.
  5. My DD is the same age, but turned 12 a few months ago. We are thinking of putting her in seminary one year early. So not this year but the following year. She wants to go to BYU when 17. We will probably do AP and Community college concurrent enrollment. From what I can tell they can take college classes but will still apply as a freshman at BYU because of age. Anyway I have been thinking of calling them and asking about seminary and kids that graduate early.
  6. Okay, this is what I have seen watching my DH. I haven't asked these specific questions yet. Club team is more important than high school. Really though, it's mostly about your times. For recruiting, my DH mostly gets contacted by the swimmers or matched with them on the recruiting sites. He is at a D2 school, it may be different for D1. He also looks at the top times in our region of the country. From what I have seen, the swimmers need to put in the work to get their name out there to get recruited. And don't wait till SR year. He has had try outs before, but no one has ever been good enough to make the team yet. DH said AA and AAA times. But if you want a small private school, like AZ Christen, that is NAIA, then they will take almost anyone. He also said collegeswimming.com is the big recruiting site.
  7. My DH is a Div 2 college swim coach. What do you want to know? I would look at times for different schools to see where they would fit. Is she swimming year round club? That would help.

  10. Around here many of the tennis courts have been converted to pickle ball courts. Not sure if that is the trend in other places. I guess pickleball is easier to play, especially for all the retirees we have here.
  11. I do not like reading aloud. We did a ton when they were toddlers and preschoolers. And some in early elementary. Now we only do it once a week. My husband usually reads to them once a week also. I used to think I had to do it every day and I was always stressed because I like never did it. Now, I don't stress about it anymore.
  12. We do two pages once a week. Both kids got about halfway through their books last year. Hope to finish them this year. We do it orally.
  13. Your plan sounds great. You sound like you're doing an awesome job. In fact my 7DD is doing almost exactly the same curriculum as your DD.
  14. Wow, I guess we do a lot less time than everyone else. I have a 2nd, 4th, and 6th. The younger two are always done before 12. We start at 8:30ish. My older one usually has 20-60 min after lunch. We don't do every subject every day. In fact only Math is done every day. We still get to everything and finish our curriculum usually.
  15. My girls, 7 and 11, like to do Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube. It's fun, free, and yoga with a story.
  16. The student book only had practice sentences. The teachers manual had lessons. So, I would say yes, you need it.
  17. We moved from Gwinnett county a few years ago. We loved living in Gwinnett. Northern Gwinnett is really nice. My daughter went Georgia Gymnastics academy. She was pretty young though. We lived in Lawrenceville and my DH worked in Alpharetta. I would not recommend living that far though. The commute took awhile.
  18. My husband is a professional coach and says if they do drink it that it needs to be diluted with water, about half and half. We don't give it to our kids very often. Usually only at our sons track meets.
  19. The top score is the program we use. The lowest scores were curriculum I have no desire to use. So worked for me.
  20. I was very much in the same position as you when my kids were young. What helped me was changing my mindset. I told myself a lot that I had chosen this and it is what I want. I also prayed for help accepting my choices. Also, Quiet Time was never missed in our house. And I put the kids to bed between 7-7:30. Actually, they are still sent to their rooms at 7:30 now, they just read till they are tired. In a couple of years you can start leaving them for sort errands and stuff. That will help a ton.
  21. We are almost done with US and plan to continue on. My DR has really liked it. We like how it is written directly to the student. It is somewhat discovery, but he explains everything. It feels like step by step discovery? Honestly, I haven't read it all because she does so much of it on her own, so I may be wrong.
  22. I have only bought it from them. Haven't seen it New anywhere else.
  23. This! I am halfway through Chreia right now with my 11yo and I am not sure if I want to continue. English is not my best subject and I feel like we just need something more?
  24. I did this with Middle Ages. I used the white Kingfisher and Human Odyssey. But we didn't use History Odyssey for Ancients. It really didn't take me that long to go through the books and change the page numbers though.
  25. I feel like you are describing my daughter. She just turned 7 and is exactly like this. So thankful for this. I have been thinking about starting a very similar thread. It is especially hard after have two two calm and easy children.
