  1. Loving Saxon, Khan, AAS ( almost done ), Duolingo, First Form Latin, Latin Book 1, Human Odyssey Ancients, Madrigal's Spanish, Spanish Made Simple, Quizlet, IEW, EIW, Diagramming Sentences, Analytical Grammar. Just about everything but science I am still looking, sigh!
  2. "Sit down work" Although they don't sit often. Approx times, some days faster, some slower - Math 1.5 hr., Grammar 30 min., Writing 30 min., Latin 1 hr., Spanish 30 min., History 30 min., and Science 30 min. 5 hours a day. This does not include reading, Youtube, Duolingo, Quizlet, Snap Circuits, Science experiments, nature study, art, or whatever else floats their boats.
  3. I still stand outside if my son is in the bathroom. I am not paranoid. I am a sexual abuse survivor, who wants my son to not be afraid and to learn to do things on his own. But I will be close enough to hurt someone if they try to hurt my boy. Everyone does their best, but we have our own experiences.
  4. I too have never cared for Saxon below 5/4. I wanted the younger kids to love anything else after using it with the 3 older children. Nope, didn't work out that way. We are back using Saxon 5/4 +, happily !! At least I got a break for K -3. LOL
  5. A Chef, a driver, a sitter, Latin and Spanish tutors, and Every Latin program ever made. I can't believe I forgot a maid. LOL Happy with our curriculum.
  6. We have diagrammed quite a bit in Latin. I adore it. http://www.german-latin-english.com/diagrams.htm
  7. My daughter started 5/4 in 2nd and is working on 7/6 now in third. I really wanted her to love Math Mammoth or Singapore, nope. I wanted to use something new but she wasn't having it. Her brother in 5th is on level with 6/5.
  8. I really dislike K-3 of Saxon. Have not seen the new books. I would go with 5/4 it has a lot of review in the beginning.
  9. When I took on the job of educating my kids, and it is a job. I determined that they need to understand that it isn't optional. They do get to make choices as in what and when they want to do work. But work must be done every day. It just isn't an option. No work, no play. No electronics. Nothing. Life, can be easy or hard. But my job must be done. period.
  10. Do you have a 401K? You can borrow from it.
  11. Shortness of breath was the only symptom he described. But he was just exhausted, and I started noticing his fingers and toes weren't the right color, not blue but different. I stood my ground and insisted. Edited :With Texas heat, don't know if he was clammy, he never passed out, but close.
  12. My hubby had a stress test, echo and finally, because nothing was resolved, I insisted a Heart Cath. He was 99 and 95% blocked. No one would have bet on that. The doctors were shocked.
  13. Never planned. Mine just mess up my plans a lot. My daughter will sit all day and read three books. Or do 10 lessons of math. They are pulling me along kicking and screaming.
  14. I am old school. Mine know that we never need to leave home. They must behave. If not then the mom look is enough for them to understand that I am not happy. The grandbabies tell the older kids, "Grandma's house, grandma's rules." I do see what you are talking about all the time. And not just with littles. But teens! I don't get it, at all.
  15. My sister was my mom's homecare nurse, and hospice nurse in Texas. Someone needed to take care of her I was happy she got paid.
  16. I haven't step outside anymore than absolutely necessary this year. Texas sucks. Moving far north in about 4 years. CAN.NOT.WAIT !
  17. I highly recommend for an introduction, for a child above third grade or for yourself before teaching the child/children to see some of the "big picture," Getting started with Latin. I am one who can't just memorize because someone says to. I need to see where it is headed at least in the short term. A single word a day, daily translation. A wonderful introduction for anyone.
  18. I have an 8-year-old 3rd grader who is doing fine with IEW. SWI-A She didn't have a lot of interest in some of the subject content, but I purchased the TWSS too, so there were supplements at all levels and we were able to find things she liked better. She is not a strong writer so I let her type.
  19. We did GSWL, Lively Latin 1 & 2, started Latin Prep, and went to First Form. I really like the intro of GSWL. Lively Latin was ok, we didn't do history. In hind sight I would just go from GSWL to First Form. ( Although we won't be doing Fourth Form or Henle. )
  20. I purchased all three Human Odyssey books along with American Odyssey and World History Our Human Story most in excellent condition on Amazon used for less than $40 total. The spine of World History isn't exactly tight, but will do just fine for us.
  21. Sixteen, unless he is going to college this year I would not think that far ahead in the purchase of a laptop. I would simply see if a Chromebook would work for now, some are really inexpensive and do wonderfully for school. Then I would save up for a much better laptop for college.
  22. We have used or tried Miquon ( loved it ), Math Mammoth ( the kids felt there was to much time between skills ) Singapore ( they hated all the different books ) Life of Fred ( burned out fast ) Then we returned to Saxon ( my older kids all used it ) and the kids like the constant review. So here we stay. I really want to try AOPs with my youngest, math minded child, but we will see. For now it works, they are retaining and not hating Saxon.
