I would want to know. As I said on the other post, I have a close family member whose assumed father is not his biological father. He has told no one. He has no desire to tell anyone. We are still searching for his biological father, but this has rocked his world. He knew it was a chance when he took the test, as there was no father on his birth certificate and he was part of a family adoption.

So this happened. DNA test Update post 118

I recently read info about a donor whose 18 children found him, some through DNA. He left a letter in his file welcoming contact. -
So this happened. DNA test Update post 118

I have worked on Genealogy for 30 years, I have tons of family who have tested, or I have paid for them to be tested, this is extremely accurate. I have all faith in it. -
So this happened. DNA test Update post 118

I have had something just like this happen in my family. There is a group on Facebook, that CeCe runs from Long Lost Family called DNA Detectives. When you find out you have a NPE ( Non parent event ) or if you are adopted you can take DNA and hopefully find your parent or parents. You start with your closest DNA match, hopefully a 2nd cousin or closer so that you share a grandparent. Then by process of elimination you can figure out who would likely be your parent. Many times you can find one of their children to test, or they will test one day. It is a very real chance that a DNA test can rock your world. Most encourage folks to test with Ancestry, as you can transfer to Family Tree DNA for $18, then to GEDMATCH,com for free, and also to MyHeritage.com for free. The only big name left is 23 and Me. But if you test, please, please understand that you may not like the answers. My father was terrified when he took his, telling me that no matter the results that I was caught in his net. He was relieved to find out he was actually my father. -
New Grammar for the Well Trained Mind
StartingOver replied to ksr5377's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
So far my children ( 11 and 9, the 9-year-old works at the same level as her brother in all subjects except math where she is ahead of him.) have worked on their own. They have gone through FLL 1-4, and have done Latin, so not beginners to grammar. It does start at the very beginning with abstract, concrete nouns. The first six weeks is all review for my children, I can not speak to later lessons. I am anxious to see the whole pdf. I do not think I would hand it to a younger child, but the explanations would only take a few moments. SWB does say that you can easily group children together, and then the younger children can go back and do the beginning books they missed. -
New printer ink for Brother TN450?
StartingOver replied to tammyw's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Yes, V4Ink is awesome! -
I am newly on a keto diet, I have dropped 17 pounds in 22 days, and haven't even started exercising as I am having back issues. I meal prep, and freeze, on the weekend for things my family won't eat. And cook some things they will during the week ( freezing leftovers for later ). It has been really easy. And I already have about a months worth of frozen meals for myself. I even found Keto ice cream and cheese cake ( although they are special treats ). I am not hungry, this is the easiest ( they don't call it a diet but a Way of Eating ) WOE I have ever done.

New Grammar for the Well Trained Mind
StartingOver replied to ksr5377's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I could absolutely be done, as it starts at the beginning in every level. -
Oh goodness. I am super glad now that I purchased the whole set last year.

We study Latin to be able to read in Latin later, first. The kids make connections in other languages as we are now studying Spanish and French also. Latin has made that easier for them. They also make connections in English vocabulary. I am very happy with the progress. I know many who have started and dropped Latin for just being too much. We do not believe it is so here.

We finished FLL 4 before beginning Latin. I am glad we did as it made it easier to get started but now Latin is going beyond that and it's ok.

Latin sequence that you loved?
StartingOver replied to Slache's topic in General Education Discussion Board
WE have done, or used a bit of a ton of Latin curriculum, starting with Song School Latin, Getting Started with Latin, Lively Latin 1 & 2, Latin Prep, First-Second Form Latin, Latin Book 1 by Scott from a Yahoo group. We have Latin Book 2 & Wheelocks. If I did it again, I would just wait for Getting Started with Latin ( aloud ), First Form Latin, Latin Book 1 & 2 before moving on to Wheelocks. I would start in about 3rd - 4th grade and just go slow. We have retained so very much but have shelved a ton. Focus on a solid grammar before starting or teach grammar alongside. Song School was fun, but expensive -
We do the next things, but they are more predictable now too. So I have homeschool tracker and can do lesson plans for all year, or all of a text then schedule or reschedule as needed. The kids can all access from their Kindles, the laptop, Chromebook or even my cell phone. I love that. I can also keep books lists, records of books read, chore lists, and appointments, classes, events, etc., all in one place. It will do transcripts when we are ready also.

MP Second Form Latin--What Do I Need?
StartingOver replied to shburks's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
We do not use the DVD's, but do use the Classical CD's. I have the teachers guides but don't use them. We all work together with the student text, student workbooks, and answer book. It is enough for me. -
Which Latin Program?
StartingOver replied to sweetpea3829's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
Getting Started With Latin is always my first recommendation. After that, there are so many choices, and we have done many. Big Book of Lively Latin, Latin Prep, Form Latin.... I prefer Memoria Press Form Latin, but we like get'er done curriculum, the kids don't care for fluff much. We also use Latin Book 1 & 2, free on yahoo group with answers, to practice reading aloud on the fly as well as working through the lessons. After Third Form we will do Wheelocks. -
Saxon Algebra 1 3rd Edition Tests
StartingOver replied to StartingOver's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I pretty much knew that already. Sigh. Just wanted it confirmed. Off to find the correct one. ;-) -
That would depend on what you want to spend. I would start anyone on Getting Started with Latin, it is just about $10 on Kindle the audio is on the website. Then if they wanted to continue there is a Yahoo group for Latin Book 1 & 2 by Scott. Or Wheelocks. If you wished to spend more there is Latin Alive and tons more. Just to name a few.
