  1. His brother lives in Sullivan County. I wouldn't want to live next door, but closer than South Texas.
  2. Cool, I know hubby would love to move closer to his brother. I have never had to jump through hoops.
  3. I am so very excited about this, can't wait to hear some reviews. As my kids need a lower level. We will be waiting a while and jump into 5 or 6, when they are done hopefully.
  4. Yes, whew! Could have been a shock for someone else. Mostly we are curious about his birth name and how it was changed. :-) His mother was completely deaf. So we totally understand that in those times it was a logical reason to remove him especially when she wasn't with her husband, she was around a lot. Thank goodness times have changed.
  5. Mystery solved !! It is very likely that no one ever requested his Birth Certificate, so none was ever manually typed up back then. Now computers do that for them. So they will be having a meeting to explain this procedure if they every come across it again, as sending this document out shouldn't have happened and would have outed his adoption. OOPS !! He has known his whole life, so I assured them that wasn't an issue. We will be sending back the certificates, they will amend them to read Certificate of Birth. At the same time we will request his original file for genealogy purposes. We are both very curious to see what is in there could be tons or very little, because there are only family stories.
  6. Goodness. Now we have to try to find the BC, in that we have no idea what his birth mom put on it? His parents were married, but she left his dad. His dad didn't know he had another son until hubby was 40. What a mess. Hopefully they can give me some clues when I call.
  7. Hopefully someone might be able to help. Any one adopt a child or an adoptee from Alabama? My hubby just sent for his Birth Certificate, and yes we knew he was adopted through a family adoption. But what we received was a Certificate of Adoption? He was adopted in 1963, was this the norm, or should there be an amended Birth Certificate?
  8. Several days a week. I love a beautiful green yard. My recharge time is standing in the yard with house in hand. Lol My street is so quiet, and the kids find something else to do. We get charged a minimum for water here, never went over it.
  9. We are also doing Essentials in Writing. Doing a quick review of level 3 before moving onto 4 for my son who needs explicit instructions. I can't speak to the long term as we are just getting into it. But I know that Writing Strands, CAP Writing and Rhetoric, and WWS are now working. He has finished WWE 1-4 with no issues.
  10. We are using Duolingo and Spanish for Children, I really like both. (Shoot, forgot to mention we did GSWS first. )
  11. In my state there are 18 required vaccination for public school. Mine homeschool. We vaccinated on our schedule. One vaccine at a time with at least 3 months between each. If I was in a pairing with an older child and had to catch up, I would still do one vaccine at a time with at least a month between each. Talk to your Pediatrician about which order.
  12. My county in Texas issued the first license just about an hour after the verdict. I was suprised and elated.
  13. We haven't had an issue with that. But we do listen to the audio for a few days before starting the lessons. I will look up individual words if I am not sure about them. I think Lively Latin and the chants really prepared us for this step.
  14. I am research, adding to my carts as soon as I push the purchase buttons. I may have everything organized about 6 months ahead. I am late this year, but life got in the way. Just finished last week.
  15. My almost 9 year old and 7 year old don't have smart phones, or any phones. But they do have Kindles, 3DS', laptop, PS3 and use my phone. I check their searches often and walk by on occasion. They come to me about inappropriate things they have found. I want to discuss those things when they come up.
  16. Yeah, I wish I had the time to keep up with it.
  17. Your Welcome ! I just spent the last couple of weeks putting a ton of Latin in Quizlet. The kids like it as they play games. We also listen to the audio till they know the pronunciations, then just have a memory sheet to read from.
  18. I purchased all the books and answer keys with audio CD. Then went back and ordered the workbooks as my son needed more practice. Instead of flash cards we use quizlet.
  19. Latin Prep has slowed my son down a lot. He is almost 9, and finished First Language Lessons 4. It is harder than Lively Latin for sure. But could be a step from GSWL, and does have translation consistently from the start. You would have to work beside him, no doubt about that.
  20. We did GSWL then Lively Latin 1 & 2, and now we are doing Latin Prep. So very happy with all three and the progress my kids have made.
  21. Everything in my signature worked well this year. Except Analytical Grammar Jr, it was total review. Latin Prep was the best addition of the year. Next year we are going to try out HO History and Chemistry 1 from Pandia Press just as a change.
  22. For anyone starting Latin I highly recommend Getting Started with Latin as a cheap and fantastic introduction to Latin.
  23. I will expand now that I am at the computer. I started my older kids very late, and really wanted to start earlier this time. We start Latin first, then 3 years later ( or so ) we start Spanish, another three years and we start French while continuing all previous languages. They have a choice of adding a 4th language for high school. I really want a stronger foundation this time, so we can move more interest based as the children get older. I want to start those hard subjects asap, so that we can enjoy the easier path. So far, this has been amazing. It was so hard to jump into Wheelocks with big kids, of course it would likely be easier now that Wheelocks has so many supporting books out now. Still, I want a more gentle approach, working toward real mastery, not just memorize and forget.
