  1. She sounds perfectly normal but if it were me I'd ask her what she was talking about. Otherwise I'd be worried that there was something I wasn't noticing. Which is unlikely, but still, I'd worry about it, because I'm like that. :001_huh:
  2. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I know I'm going to get slammed for this, but.... Why not put her in ps?
  3. :iagree: We bought a new mattress a few years ago and I hated it from the start. Dh convinced me to give it some time to get used to it. I still hate it and wish I would have returned it.
  4. The irony is that in every single school my kids have attended (5 so far), they have gone to great lengths to try to make everything "fun". It's all about teaching the kids to love learning. In K/1, it was all about teaching them to love reading. They weren't terribly concerned with actually teaching them to read. They wanted to teach my kids to love to learn. I wanted them to teach my kids content. That's ultimately why we started hsing.
  5. :iagree: My dh uses them and he can't hear a thing. I can't wear earplugs. I'm too worried I won't hear the kids or someone breaking in. I'm a little paranoid....
  6. Thanks for posting that. I've tried them on before and love the way they fit- except they're always about 8 inches too long! Are all the NYDJ styles like that, or does anyone know if any of these run shorter? Thanks.
  7. Someone asked her about that on her website. Here is her response:
  8. I've heard that too. I'd like to see how the ps kids would do on that test if they gave it to all of them each August. I'm guessing they'd bomb it. My dd went back to ps for 7th grade last year, after 5 years of hs. They gave her a placement test and she aced it, so they recommended putting her in prealgebra. She had already finished Algebra 1 at home, so I asked them to put her in Geometry. They were reluctant, but were willing to try it since she had very high scores on NAEP and ITBS. The kids in her class were those that did prealgebra in 6th, algebra 1 in 7th- so they were the highest achieving math students in the school. My dd was easily the most prepared. She was shocked at how much trouble they had with basic computation- especially fractions. She had no trouble getting an A. Of course, I'm sure that there are many unprepared hs kids too.
  9. I love you too. :) Although I'm not so sure about AA for 9th graders. It just seems like *everything* they assign these kids has to be dark and depressing. I loved AA. But I'd like to see them branch out a little.
  10. Just wondering if anyone else has heard this... it doesn't make sense to me. What would be different about the second 30 minutes than the first 30 minutes? As long as the milk supply was the same, of course. Maybe I'm dense, but I'm not getting how this would work.
  11. We've used Prentice Hall Science Explorer and K12. Both were good, although I'm still looking for something better.
  12. Not that I know of, but it isn't really my area of focus so I could be wrong. The JNC guidelines are very evidence-driven, and I haven't heard of any large studies that have come out recently that would cause big changes. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some minor tweaking of recommendations, especially with regard to certain risk groups, but I don't know any specifics.
  13. I'm trying to decide what to do with my 8th grade dd next year. If you use MCT for LA, what are you doing for literature/reading?
  14. I thought you were having problems with abnormal smells. If so, that can be caused by sinus infections, so I'd try the antibiotic.
  15. Do you do sinus washes? Most of the doctors around here will recommend you try that first, before prescribing anything, so I'd definitely do that before going to the doctor.
  16. The new guidelines come from The Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC 7), published in 2003. Prior to that, the guidelines came from the JNC 6, published in 1997. Here's what the JNC 7 says about the changes:
