Offit is hardly the only doctor warning against blanket booster recommendation. And the idea of "immune imprinting" makes sense and is well documented. My layman understanding is that a body trained to fight against that one type of pathogen over and over again will negatively impact its ability to recognize and fight against other pathogens. My own omicron anecdote: My area is getting hit with a lot of new cases. My boosted friends are getting covid now; some for the first time, others for the second time. Friends who are unvaxxed but previously infected seem to escape the current wave. This is true even among people in the same family.

Is there really a stated board policy with regard to the Covid vaccine? And that it is pro-vaccine? Someone brought this up recently, but that thread has now been locked. If this is true, can someone point me to where it is stated? Thanks.

Then it should make one think twice before taking any more of these vaccines that no longer work against the current mutations.

Indoor masking requirement was lifted last week, and school masking restrictions will be eased next week. About half of the population is still super cautious, but the other half is more than ready to unmask. We feel comfortable not wearing one. The data from our area don't seem to correlate with mask wearing.

Where I live, we have not eased the mask requirements except for 2 months last summer. Schools never dropped the requirements at all, and still cases surged this winter.

A teenaged friend of my kid was exposed (along with his dad), one of them infected everyone in their very large family, but he himself never had a POS test and never had any symptoms. Later he got an antibody test and discovered he had antibodies.

Do you have links to good articles or medical studies on this issue? A friend of mine is recovering from her covid infection and is in distressed because her work place is requiring all employees to get boosted by the end of the month, no exemptions allowed unless she is willing to be transferred. She asked me if I knew of any good study on the harm of boosting too soon (or at all) after an infection. She was fully vaxxed before her infection.

Have they all indeed had covid? If that's the case, that would make me breathe a little easier.

May I recommend two Korean shows on Netflix? They both have 16 episodes. Crash Landing on You is lighthearted with some very funny scenes. Has the new CDC estimate for fatality rate been discussed here? With the estimate being at 0.4% and asymptomatic infection at 35%, the overall fatality rate is really 0.26%, about twice that of the seasonal flu. Thank you, @RootAnn. 🙂 He was accepted to both Oxford and Emory College and today got notified of the scholarship they're awarding him. Not much compared to the total cost of attending, but still appreciated.

Every Monday morning Irene would post her weekly message (lecture and instructions) to the class. Everything students need to do for that week would be included such as videos to watch, links to read, slides to review for that week's quiz, etc. She doesn't tape her own lectures but would suggest videos to watch before certain assignments. And obviously, everything is asynchronous.

We've only had experience with the Honors Biology course. I thought it provided a good amount of rigor and challenge for my kids, and although they needed a lot of hand-holding in the beginning, they became more and more independent further into the year. We really needed something that had weekly deadlines with detailed feedback on assignments, and this class filled that need well. Weekly assignments included reading text and answering questions, chapter quiz, data analysis, and class discussion. Some weeks had labs and other projects. The instructor Irene Paine is great at answering questions promptly and would accommodate reasonable requests, but she also demands quality work from her students. I also loved that we could order all lab supplies from her at the beginning of class.

Son got accepted to Emory/Oxford and UC Santa Barbara this week. We are in CA so still waiting to hear from a few more UCs before making a decision. We are very thankful and not taking anything for granted. So many with stellar stats were rejected/waitlisted that I started to wonder if applying as a homeschooler is a hook of some sort.

DS was accepted to Grinnell with Founder's Scholarship.
