  1. Another vote for the Speed Queen. I bought if based on recommendations from the Hive. I love that machine. Diapers, barn clothes, workout clothes, garage clothes -- They all come out clean. And the wash cycle is about 30 minutes.
  2. I use CLE for elementary age math through 6th grade, then I switch to Saxon 7/6 with Saxon teacher DVDs.
  3. Perhaps Knowledge Quest? http://www.knowledgequestmaps.com/The-Star-Spangled-State-Book.html http://www.knowledgequestmaps.com/A-Presidential-Scrapbook.html
  4. If you want cheap and easy to follow, CLE offers 2 light units on research paper writing. I think they are LU 507 and LU 807. You would have to look at the website or call for the information.
  5. I bought a Speed Queen a couple months ago and I LOVE it. A normal wash cycle is 28 minutes. The clothes come out clean, and not in a tangled mess. I can select my water height/temp/and soak times if needed. It is bare bones basic, but a super washer. I can wash a King size quilt in mine. I recommend the Speed Queen to everyone. We do not have a local dealer, I bought mine online from a place that offered free shipping. It was $724, with free shipping from New York to a southern state.
  6. I used the BF history of the horse guide some last year. To be honest, I wasn't impressed. My dd didn't really enjoy the program either, although she enjoyed reading (and re-reading) all of the books.
  7. For cheap, I liked the cle research paper lightunit. It was quick, and easy enough for my dd to use to write a research paper for her coop class last semester.
  8. Have your DS take the CLE placement test. http://www.clp.org/store/by_grade/21
  9. Rubber cement. It smells awful, but it doesn't wrinkle the paper, and it is easy for little hands to use. Plenty of colored paper, cool scissors, file folders. Oh. And patience. Lol.
  10. I also use the Saxon teacher DVDs. We love them. They explain every problem in the book. I have not used the dive DVDs.
  11. My daughter uses Evan moor daily paragraph editing. You don't need to do it every day. My dd does a week in about 15 minutes.
  12. I have had a hard year dealing with medical issues in my family. I did jump ship on some of the programs you mentioned. I switched to KONOS , and I am enjoying this year. I went from having a sinking feeling and just get it dine to check a box, to let's learn something and have fun while doing it. It has been wonderful.
  13. My dd went from cle 507 to Saxon 7/6. She is not a mathy student. I bought her the Saxon teacher DVDs to go with the program. She is thriving on this set up. She still doesn't care for math, but she is understanding the concepts. Also, I don't have to teach her the lessons. I check everything.
  14. Guest hollow has a free one year human body program for that age Sorry. I can't link on the iPad.
  15. We just started Konos last week. I have a 6th, 1st and pk. We are having a ton of fun. I tossed the curriculum we were using and it has been so freeing. The first part of the year, I felt that we were do a ton of DOING, but not really learning. This week? I feel like we have done a ton of learning. And the kids actually enjoyed it. We did so much more work this past week, and the kids never noticed that school sometimes took much longer to complete. They were/are having fun. After reading a book about Helen Keller one afternoon, my 1st grade kid said "Mom! that was an awesome story!"
  16. Actually, most social workers rack up thousands of dollars in college debt, make pennies for pay, spend hours away from their own families to help others, and spend money out of their own pockets to help their families and kids. And no, none of my college courses were on the topics you posted. But thanks for asking. :glare: Yes, the system is broken. I have had to return kids home that should have never been returned. But, you know, I was court ordered to do it. Stupid and uncaring and irresponsible? No, actually. I wasn't and none of my coworkers were either. OP. Sorry you are having a bad day.
  17. I giggle when people list "chester draws" on craigslist. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/fuo/4052299171.html
  18. For watching After reading A Long Walk to Water Part 1: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50143932n Part 2:http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50143933n
  19. I own it and liked it. My dd (age 5) thought it moved too slow. We combined FSR (dd loved the word lists) with ETC. The readers that Memoria Press recommends are good also.
  20. Have you seen this thread on the placement? Maybe this will help you. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/168553-meaningful-composition-where-to-start/
  21. I used MP Kindergarten phonics this year with my 5 year old dd. It is a lot of writing for the average child. I used ETC books 1, 2 and 3 with MP kindy. The readers were perfect for my child. I will use it again with my next child since I own the program.
  22. Primary Phonics book 3 is a repeat of etc book 3 and 3.5. I bought the Primary Phonics books for my dd. I am not in love with the Primary Phonics books, but they will fill a gap between ETC book 3 and the higher levels. I am also using the readers "Scamp and Tramp" and "Soft and White" Both are sold at Rainbow Resources.
  23. I have used it for most of last year and all of this year. We will not be using it next year. I do not hand the book to my child and have her complete the assignment. I teach the lesson and she takes notes and writes examples in her grammar binder. It has been good for introducing my kid to all the parts of speech and basic diagramming. I pulled her out of PS in 3rd grade, and her knowledge of grammar was barely understanding a noun from a verb. She has made tremendous progress. We will move on to something new for this year. I think we need a new approach.... a new look... a new something.
