I discovered the car worked fine on 95 because the petrol station locally ran out of 98 in December. 🙂 was still $2 yesterday when DH filled all the Jerries, I think the price rise depends on when they get their next truckload of fuel

Help me figure out my future life
Melissa in Australia replied to Ausmumof3's topic in The Chat Board
I don't think you need any training. All the people who have worked with my boys had no training. You need an nbin number and insurance. You go to a provider and put your name down. I don't think physical strength is needed. The people working with my twins are doing craft with them. I provide all supplies and ideas. I know that the same workers are going to other places and doing things like taking disabled child to swimming. Respite with a non verbal autistic child, teaching very basic meal preparation to a ID young teen, Taking a person to a sport event. -
Do prospective employers check references?
Melissa in Australia replied to 4everHis's topic in The Chat Board
They do here. I have been contacted by employers when people have used me as a reference -

i would highly reccomend becoming a community support worker for NDIS. It pays around $57 hour. Tasks include taking disabled person shopping, taking them to out of the house activities and respite. Or a job in Aldi -

Don’t they use animal manure in USA. I would be pretty shocked if they don’t. It is used here.

Why do people lie about insignificant things?
Melissa in Australia replied to GracieJane's topic in The Chat Board
And there is confabulation . Work with foster kids for a bit, it is an eye opening experience . It isn’t lying, which is what I though in the beginning, but such a scrambled brain that the brain just fills in the gaps with whatever -
Why do people lie about insignificant things?
Melissa in Australia replied to GracieJane's topic in The Chat Board
this background suggests that the lying is a brain survival thing, for self protection . It might not make much sense to someone who hasn't studied or worked with people who have experienced extreme trauma as a child. the trauma affects how the brain grows and in some their brain has an overriding fight or flight reaction happening most of the time. so they lie as a survival technique. the person most probably isn't aware that they do it and hasn't much control over it. -
after the successful evacuation of 5000 people from Sumy by bus and 100 private cars yesterday, another evacuation is underway right at this minute https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-03-09/ukraine-russia-war-live-blog-zelenskky-putin-kyiv/100893696 Ukrainians to be evacuated from Enerhodar as temporary ceasefire in force The mayor of the southeastern Ukrainian city of Enerhodar said a temporary ceasefire is in force, allowing the evacuation of civilians to start through a "humanitarian corridor". Mayor Dmytro Orlov said humanitarian supplies would be allowed into the city, which has been under fire from Russian forces. "On the way back, buses will pick up civilians who want to leave," he said. He said civilians would be able to go to the nearby city of Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainians are also being evacuated from Sumy, in the country's north-east.

there is talk on Australian ABC News radio that the oil price could go as high as $300 US . Boy if that happens I don't think we will be able to go further than we could walk

How are gas prices impacting your life?
Melissa in Australia replied to mommyoffive's topic in The Chat Board
It depends how high it goes. If it goes as high as $3au litre as they are predicting on the radio we will hardly be able to afford to leave the property. The closest little shopping centre is 20 km away, and the town we do our shopping in and swimming lessons is 100 km away. but it is the other little things like the full needed to mow and whippersnip, and run the wood splitter and tractor and the water pump to pump up from the dam. All these are essential . -
What are you stocking up on right now?
Melissa in Australia replied to PinkTulip's topic in The Chat Board
We are going to cull all our pigeons this weekend. They eat wheat and we don’t get any benefit from them. my dh is filling up the Jerries today as well -
Our car is meant to use 98 as well, but it has been working fine on 95 just heard on the country hour that it is expected to be over $2.20 for unleaded by next week
-
On the radio they gave the conversion. Around $2au litre for unleaded is around $7.50 us gallon

Veggie seeds. Lots of the veggie seeds in Australia are imported from England. I am thinking they might be needing them themselves this year. -
Ok thanks. No basements on any Australian houses, our house is raised on stumps, not even at ground level. I can do under a desk. Also half our walls are floor to ceiling windows? The closest target I guess would be Canberra, just over 350 km away. But Melbourne, though further is the direction that half our wind comes from. I know if there are big fires near Melbourne the ash falls from the sky right here. I have the feeling we are going to be like that movie where everyone in the northern hemisphere is gone and people in Australia slowly die over the next week as the radiation spreads.

First convoy of evacuees leaves Ukrainian city of Sumy A first convoy of residents and foreign students has now left the Ukrainian city of Sumy after an agreement with Russia on establishing a humanitarian corridor. I haven't had any success, but my grandmother did it all the time. I wish I knew how she did it. She might have propagated them in water I have tried rooting compound multiple times but it failed. Maybe I should try water -
How are you talking to your kids about Ukraine?
Melissa in Australia replied to Carrie12345's topic in The Chat Board
My chidren at home? They have interlectual disabilities and extreme trauma we try and shield them from it. We don't see the news on TV dh and I use an ipad , so they only hear about it from the radio. Which is very brief. Their main concern is food. They have huge anxiety about food. We have heaps of food sitting outside the pantry so they can visably see we are always going to have food. We only just found out from twin 1 that he thought everyone in the world appart from us had died of covid. He had some idea that it was like the black death and the few times he went to medical appointment to Melbourne during lockdown and all the city streets were empty to him confirmed his unknown to us belief.- 9 replies
