  1. Oh my goodness! I totally understand where you're coming from. I have had these thoughts about my mother-in-law, especially as they were getting older and were in denial about having to make plans as they aged. I did all the same ruminating that you did. I came to the conclusion that my mother and father-in-law could never live with us in the same home. I would be willing to have them nearby in an apartment and have someone help take care of them. I would be willing to do some helping but I would never take complete care of them because narcissistic behavior is real! I watched my mother-in-law's mother get old and start to suffer dementia. She did not live with my mother-in-law; she lived about an hour away in a retirement community. She aged in place with 24-hour care. She treated those workers like utter pieces of poop! I felt so bad for them! So I know, truly know, what kind of things I would be in store for if my mother-in-law and father-in-law came to live with us. So I'm grateful that they have made plans and have moved into a retirement community that will take them all the way through. I am sad that it is far away from us because I know that it will make more work for my husband and his brother and the two wives, none of us who live even remotely close to where they are staying.
  2. MY MIL was raised by a narcissist mom who pitted her children against each other. And they hate each other until this day (they are in their 80s). I never met my DH's uncle until about five years ago at a relative's birthday party (we've been married for 26 years and together for over 33)! Stole, lied, and connived back and forth when the parents were alive and after they died. I pray for many things but I pray extra hard that my children and my nephew break the narcissism cycle. Now that they are all teens and young adults I think we are in the clear as far as that. My daughter was the one I worried most about as she is the only girl and granddaughter and I thought I saw aspects of it in her early childhood but thank God (THANK GOD!) she has a healthy sense of herself but it doesn't tip into narcissism.
  3. BTDT got the video AND T-shirt from my MIL. She can NEVER be wrong and if you catch her in a lie or anything that doesn't make her seem wonderful you CANNOT bring it up. SO tiresome.
  4. It's Purim (Jewish holiday filled with obligations) and I scheduled two necessary doctor appointments for my DD and my DS2 has one so I'm driving like a chauffeur. And I'll be doing that throughout the day. I squeezed in 15 minutes of running on the treadmill and a 10 minute lower ab workout that made me almost cry -when the halfway mark flashed on the screen I swear I'd been doing the exercises for decades already! 🤪
  5. They may not be expired @Scarlett. Most test expiration dates have been extended once or more. You can check but even if not I would trust them. Feel better soon!
  6. Prayers! She is brave beyond words!
  7. As a mom with a with a young adult who had a very rough time in his teens until recently I'm praying a prayer of understanding and peace for y'all.
  8. Scarlett, I hope you get better soon. Please rest at much as you can and it will help you recover.
  9. Lived in and visit Israel and Jewish synagogues and such all the time. You better believe I look for stuff like that! Having someone get cranky for my asking if the bag belongs to anyone would make me even more grumpy and let them know they are being a 💩. I'll do it politely but I will get a security person on the scene ASAP. There are to many "theys" who wish to do people like me (Black, Asian, Jewish, woman) harm so I'll go with wary every day. It doesn't affect where I go or do but it makes me a lot more aware.
  10. Oh Katie! This is so tough for all of y'all. I'm praying that the doctors easily find what's wrong and are able to fix it so your mother can continue her recovery.
  11. Been doing Caroline Girvan workouts 6/7 days a week in addition to my 20-30 minutes cardio (elliptical or running). Sometimes as short as 12 minutes (deadbugs) and as long as 30 minutes. I see definite changes in my body that are encouraging. My arms don't seem to be becoming guns though. Lost weight as well. I was supposed to start one of the new weight loss drugs but I haven't heard anything from them. I guess this is what I needed to start losing weight and gaining muscle.
  12. My DH also found a therapist just for his FOO issues that caused marital strife. Our marriage therapist praised him for the decision. My separate personal therapy was based on what was happening to me from my loved ones after my sister's death.
  13. I think you are trying hard to be a support for everyone at every time. That is admirable. But also extremely hard. You should give yourself grace and kindness; at least as much as you give to those around you. Knowing all too much about therapy... If you want me to delete this let me know and I will.
  14. Can you afford to buy out both cars and flip one? You'll make money?
  15. A Jewish phrase that is similar is, "Use it in good health!" I never thought of it as a bad thing, but now that it brought up I could see how it could be used in a not kind manner... Hmmm.
  16. You should do this and be prepared to be in your car in traffic for a very very long time. Hit the bathrooms! You could buy the Uber might cancel that evening knowing all the traffic is going to be stuck in (and therefore losing much money in the process).
  17. Mazel tov! Great story, great mama (and papa and grandma)!
  18. Shnitzel. It's known as the thing that I bring to families who have babies and such.
  19. So happy for y'all! Can't wait for pictures of "our" baby! 😘
  20. And me. If the baby would be kind enough to safely emerge before the Sabbath begins at 5pm EST so I don't have to wait until tomorrow night to get an update I would appreciate it! 🤪
  21. Did they check you for pneumonia? Your new description sounds like that to me.
  22. I mean the things you mentioned he buying which have to do with 2nd Amendment rights. Is he buying more of them from the hospital bed or is you DD and their friends worried about what he already has (and sound like will be moved out of reach)?
  23. Some people have delusions and mental illness like symptoms after anesthesia. I can't say I would let everything go because of what you are saying (because it is so scary and serious sounding) but this might be temporary.
