  1. :iagree: We did American Story 1 and 2 a few years ago. Those were the best two years of HSing we've had so far. I was planning on doing S&S and bought the guide used, only to realize I would have had to tweak it too much to make it secular. I even joined the secular WP Yahoo group.
  2. This reminds me of my MIL and SIL's comments a few years ago after one of our deployments. I was very emotional still and somehow they got into talking about how they undertood how I felt being without my hubby because they too went through that when their hubbies were in medical school and had to stay at the hospital for days at a time. I must have turned all colors, but kept my cool because we were at my in-laws' house. I was thinking, What the heck do they know!? They could call each other whenever they wanted, my MIL used to take the kids to the hospital to visit dad, my SIL would fly out to see my BIL or he would fly down for the weekend. He went to school out-of-state. Give me a break!
  3. We will celebrate our 14th "Army-verssary" next week, and hubby is getting ready for deployment #6 by the end of the year. So lots of training, long hours and field time until then. He's been deployed about every other year since he joined. We had a nice 2.5-year break when we were stationed in CA at NTC, followed by 9 months of school that we PCSed for. I have always stayed put for all deployments, even when we lived overseas and friends went home to be close to family. I just figure that the kids get uprooted enough, why do it when is not really necessary. We have lived in 4 different states in the past 4 years, and this last move was the worst. While it has been a great experience for all, he has missed so many important milestones in the kids' lives, to include the birth of our 1st boy. I have only 2 kids left at home, so I am not as overwhelmed, but I do get very lonely. I stay busy with them and they fill my days, but when bedtime comes I miss my hubby terribly. BTW, drama is not exclusive to small units. I've always tried to volunteer with the unit, but when drama starts I step away.
  4. :lol::lol::lol::lol: Thanks for the laugh!:lol::lol::lol::lol:
  5. Yes, it is very easy to do. The records are stored in a 'user' folder. If you call them, they'll walk you through it. I've called them with technical problems and have been very friendly and helpful.
  6. :iagree: I know of many families that use the public school at home as a jumping board to independent homeschooling. Many end up dropping it after a year and going at it on their own. Had it not been for this option they probably wouldn't have found the courage or known they really can do it on their own. Myself included :)
  7. I became a CNA/HHA many years ago when my life took an unexpected turn and I needed work fairly quickly. The training was 6 months long, and about another month for Home Health Aide after that. I worked at nursing homes and other long term care facilities, but my favorite part was the home care. I started around 8am and was usually home by 3pm. It depended on how many patients I had and the extent of what they needed. I could chose to take as many or few patients as I wanted. I had some patients that were only assigned to me. They were my regulars and became like family. I had a co-worker who only worked weekends, so there was plenty of flexibility. I was making $15 per visit, plus mileage. A visit could be anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour. Now, this was over 15 years ago, so I don't know how much things have changed.
  8. She is asking about Skedtrack, which is a free online tracker. FWIW, I've used both, and own HST Plus, and after pounding my head on the keyboard I end up using good old paper and pencil.
  9. The publisher has a suggested schedule on their website. Here's a link to it.
  10. I breastfed my last one until he was 3 1/2 years old. Family and friends would poke fun at us, but hubby would actually get mad at some people's comments.
  11. I have mine preserved, but the whole front of the box is seethrough...I can see it's in there :)
  12. Not at all. I love my dress, which I made, and I got married 15 years ago today!

  14. I'm sorry, but atheism is not a belief, let alone the belief that any religion is wrong. It is simply not believing in any deity or supernatural beings.
  15. :iagree: You beat me to it. This is the one I was going to post. :001_smile:
  16. I *vividly* remember reading it in the 10th grade. While it is an easy read, the themes are pretty mature and I would not recommended for any level under high school.
  17. I guess I'm old school as well. We all eat dinner together, especially because it is when daddy can join us. The kids set the table, with utensils, napkins, glasses, and so on, while I cook. The other meals are a 'free for all' We sometimes eat lunch on the floor of the living room, like a picnic. I grew up eating all sorts of foods, and my parents made sure we at least tried a variety and from different cultures. Not forced, but encouraged to try because you just might like it. If we didn't like something, we knew what to expect if having dinner at some one's house, or knew not to order it at a restaurant. I do the same with my kids.
  18. I think there are people who are still not aware of the change.
  19. I play! PM me to add you to my 'family.' :001_smile:
  20. It was all over the news a couple of years ago when she said it at a book signing. Here is one article about it - http://www.newsweek.com/id/50787
