What would you do in this situation?
Barry Goldwater replied to Mergath's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Chances are that the neighbor girl has blabbed it to others as well. No dogs means no dogs. -
Photoshopped away at Fb
Barry Goldwater replied to Osmosis Mom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Outrageous. Was this an individual or an 'official' school page? I would complain or at least post something incredibly sarcastic and embarrassing for them....:glare: -
Does your husband read?
Barry Goldwater replied to aggieamy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
As does mine :001_smile: I also needed to marry a reader. And so did she.;) -
another wi-fi capable device, such as a Ninendo Wii, XBOX 360 (I think) or a new Blu-Ray DVD player, you can stream Netflix, Hulu, etc. without buying the Roku device. But we've owned a Roku for 2 years and have been quite satisfied. You do need fairly good internet service, however. Check w/ your provider. We get internet through our phone line. It works fine. Live sports...might be a problem. Re. Hallmark movies, go to Netflix or Hulu's web site and do a search for some titles, and see if they're available as an 'instant play' product. HTH

how would you respond to my sister?
Barry Goldwater replied to ktgrok's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: My DW and I call them 'True Believers.' They are the ones who anonymously report the HSers because, 'I saw them outside once on a school day! They're truant!' They call animal control because it rained 3 inches the night before, and your horse happens to be standing in wet mud for a few hours. They see your septic tank is not up to current code (grandfathered none the less) and suggest they need to report you to the authorities, even as you are gathering quotes to have it upgraded. Ill informed, do-gooder busybodies...very dangerous. -
how would you respond to my sister?
Barry Goldwater replied to ktgrok's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: You are strongly justified IMO to limit or completely cut off contact with this sister. I would. No one threatens my family and keeps the priviledge of spending time with me and mine. -
Not exactly...I have a short list of msgs. Some I've deleted for privacy, but they show up on my list as 'this message from <so&so> has been deleted.' You don't see that on mine when you visit? Maybe only the 'owner' of the page sees those and visitors don't? I KNOW!! I even invite visitors to tell me to 'drop dead' if they want! Still no takers! Can't even get arrested in this place! :-)

any suggestions from anyone? I have the same problem (but hardly any visitor msgs :tongue_smilie:)

We were eating out (a rarity with 4 littles), and when it was time for the bill (probably $40.00!) the waitress informed me that a woman at another table had already paid it! She told the waitress how delighted she was to see a sweet family <snort> out to eat together and wanted to bless us! She left long before we could thank her... I've had the delightful pleasure to pass this forward a few times now myself...it's fun and a little sneaky, which makes it more fun!!

TSA strip searched 84 yr old grandmother
Barry Goldwater replied to Alessandra's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You need to be brave to actually want to find a terrorist...much easier to hit your search quota by targeting the virtually helpless. In related news, American Airlines went bankrupt last week...connection? I know I'll never fly as long as we have this phony, fake 'security' going on...you aren't a passenger, you're a prisoner. -
I think you are doing great...you have large, 'global' goals and boundaries, but you leave it to this near adult DC to figure out how to get there herself. Sounds like she has some good habits. My additions to your list from my 2 olders (we live on a farm, so YMMV) - Decide which goats to breed to whom - Contact other herd managers to arrange breedings - Budget $ for stud fees, buying & selling of animals - 100% manage all aspects of 4-H animal projects - Handle all livestock care under their responsibility, incl. shots, births, vet calls if needed (rare) My 2 olders are self-directing most of their homeschooling at this point. We discuss subjects prior to annual notifications, then turn them loose. We progress test regularly, and make ourselves available for guidance, review of difficult materials, etc. But we don't tell them, '9:00 - time for Chemistry,' etc. They know what they have to get done and they do it.

2011 PSAT scores are in !!!
Barry Goldwater replied to snowbeltmom's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
for our 2 older DDs.:) -
It is not neglect. It is an educational philosophy. I would consider someone reporting them to be encroaching on their religious freedoms, and therefore would consider him to be engaging in religious persecution. Reporting them would never ever enter my mind. I might or might not encourage them to broaden their scope of education, for their own benefit, but that's about it.

1. It's God's will for our family. 2. We can provide the academic rigor and challenge that can't be found in govt. schools. 3. We can customize the curriculum and teaching to each child's learning style. 4. We don't like having their time wasted. 5. We like being around our kids. They're fun.:) e.t.a. To clarify, we didn't pull our kids from P.S. We never, ever gave PS any consideration whatsoever. We planned from day 1 to homeschool all our kids.

What do you think about telecommuting?
Barry Goldwater replied to Susan in KY's topic in General Education Discussion Board
When my division was dissolved, both me and several other tele-commuters were severed, along with a number of 'brick & mortar' salaried employees...the one guy retained to shepard the dissolution was a home-officer/telecomuter  I don't see it as a factor...it's just headcount...at least in my experience. -
I purposely self-identify myself a man, I don't take myself too seriously, I appreciate my wife and dear daughters more than life itself, I ROTFLOL at the post-count 'street cred' that gets thrown around here from time to time, I love Shakespeare... and I've been called one, more than once. :tongue_smilie:

Are YOU concerned about dihydrogen oxide?

Inundation in DHMO is lethal...we ought to take it seriously... -
Penn State's Joe Paterno has been *fired*
Barry Goldwater replied to Blueridge's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm hearing on dve.com that it's going to get even worse, if that's even possible... RUMORS of Sandusky 'providing' boys to 'big-time athletic' financial boosters, in exchange for donations, are being floated...there's supposed to be more reported this afternoon...oh my word...this is horrific... -
Why is it. . . (stamina content)
Barry Goldwater replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You've described classic introvert behavior...ask me how I know... :D I can stay awake for days if I'm totally by myself...but...if I have to leave the house to call on clients or....to...socialize :scared: I need 12 hrs of sleep to recover...ah well. -
It can really depend on the industry he's in. There are cultural expectations for 'free overtime' that vary from field to field. FWIW I've walked away from a very high paying salaried job because of the endless late night/weekend phone calls, emails, weekends of 'homework' and extensive travel...because my 'marginal' gain of income for the 'prestige' of management came out to something like $1.00 per hour, when I actually looked at it. I'm coin operated...so I made a change. It's not what you make, it's what you keep, and at what cost to you... It also depends on your 'next best alternative.' If he draws a line in a sand and 'pushes back' to say, 'enough is enough!' does he have an alternative if his boss throws a tantrum and sacks him? Is he talented enough and/or offering a skill that is in high enough demand for him to push back?
