  1. Till the money REALLY runs out. We've let Fed Govt. try to fix poverty for 50 years...$8 Trillion spent. What do we have? $8 Trillion worth of poverty, and cities that look like they were detonated by nukes. It's sad, really.
  2. No kilts yet, but I found this, one of my favorites: WHITE BEAN CHICKEN CHILI Ingredients 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken broth 1 (18.75 ounce) can tomatillos, drained and chopped 1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes 1 (7 ounce) can diced green chiles 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander seed 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin 2 ears fresh corn 1 pound diced, cooked chicken meat 1 (15 ounce) can white beans 1 pinch salt and black pepper to taste Directions Heat oil, and cook onion and garlic until soft. Stir in broth, tomatillos, tomatoes, chilies, and spices. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes. Add corn, chicken, and beans; simmer 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. I think other threads on topics like this often go this way...one gets question after question basically that is, "well then what do I/she/they do about this then? or that? or the other?, if I/she/they don't have FS or whatever aid they NEED?" and one find themselves trying to solve every problem the subject person has in their life...It's really interesting how that goes, IMO.
  4. It's happened to me before too. I'd assume technical glitch before assuming...you know...try calling again maybe?
  5. The country was still prosperous and functioning between 1789 and 1913 (when Federal INCOME taxes were imposed). Granted the Fed govt. extracted other types of taxes (not specifically income), but still... can't find any kilt pictures...it's not really my area of expertise.
  6. I feel your pain...I'm thankful for an 'introverted' PG, and for a large, fairly bright family (hey we try!). :tongue_smilie::tongue_smilie: Her social needs are lower than the average teen. We've had a bit of good luck with academic talent searches in creative writing. Some of the 'competitions' are in person, and my DD13 had made a few contacts with people 'like her.' :tongue_smilie: Even the out-of-staters have maintained touch via email / facebook etc. (I've had to admit to her this year that we're not as much teaching anymore, as guiding). She also made a friend at the local college summer community theatre camp...
  7. :iagree: all our saddles have these and they are literally a life-saver. I call them 'breakaway' stirrups.
  8. My dear lady, they are playing ice hockey in H***. We are in complete agreement. We don't do sleepovers either. My teenagers are learning to tell pushy people, "oh, yeah? Well we have our own rules."
  9. Apparently, they haven't considered that their children will probably be someday deciding what sort of nursing home and end-of-life care they themselves will receive...
  10. :iagree: The charge of racism is typically thrown around by the intellectually lazy, particularly if they don't want to argue the salient points of the debate, but instead want to shout down any opposition. No actual evidence of racism is required in this mindset. Simply leveling the charge of racism is seen by those who do it as the only way to silence the critic. It's gotten very tiresome frankly.
  11. :iagree: Another useful side affect of the survey is to condition people to obediently answer intrusive questions from 'authorities' no matter what.
  12. If they can't prove you received the survey (e.g. certified letter signature), I wouldn't worry about being fined if you don't respond. :)
  13. The logic is, if the person's good, they'd have gotten a job quicker than 6 months. Or, they're seen as not that ambitious...for example, they received their pink slip, sat home, relaxed and lived off their severance and unemployment, and THEN started looking for a job as the benefits began to run out. Many companies won't even consider an unemployed person, figuring that by hiring someone away from a current employer, they're getting the 'cream of the crop.' I'm not saying it's right, it's certainly a bit unfair, but I'm just repeating what I've heard many people say, in several private companies that I've worked for.
  14. Eliminate HFCS Eliminate HFCS Elim...well, I'm sure you heard me. :) Weight will come off. Then the cravings will wane noticably, and more weight will come off.
  15. were they filed on time? Is the DH psyche intact and sound? :001_smile:
  16. Dear wife's delightful quiches are always good the 2nd day, sometimes better! If you bake, cool, then refrigerate overnight, then truck it into church, you'll be fine. 90 miles, what's that, like 70 minutes? No sweat.

  20. The people who have absolutely convinced themselves that they can never get ahead (by any definition you choose), that they can never get wealthy, that they can't do anything successfully, never, ever do. Those you put as much energy into thinking...'how can I make this work' as others put into 'here are all the reasons I can't make it work' very often, eventually, figure out 'I CAN make it work!!'
  21. This world is not my home. and I planned, I prepared, God laughed. and A frustrating enigma to my parents.:lol::lol:
