  1. My ds loved the Dear America series....the ones for boys and girls! He just really got into those about that age. Good luck!
  2. :D Awww....and major brownie points to your dh!!
  3. Ergo all the way! I kept my 3yo dd in it until she met the weight limit. I carried her on my back and they have lots of wonderful accessories! Well worth the price, and they resale very easily. I could put her on my back with no help. It is fabulous! I will get a new one for my new dd at about a year. Until then, she is in a Bjorn.
  4. Praying here too! Taking down blinds TOMORROW! Oh Jesus....help that sweet baby and his family...:grouphug:
  5. I found this when I was signing up for the free DVD: The Idea Book for Educators is the biannual teacher's magazine created by the Education Department at A&E Television Networks. The Idea Book includes Teacher's Guides for programs featured in Classroom and a printed version of the A&E Classroom Calendar, which features air dates, program descriptions, and copyright information. The Idea Book is sent free of charge to teachers who request it. http://www.biography.com/classroom/ideabook.jsp
  6. The Well-Educated Mind. I am looking forward to receiving it! Hoping to learn a lot and have some sort of organized list of books to read. I love to learn! Going back to school in the fall after two semesters off. I am taking one class per semester online so I can stay at home with my babies. Plenty of time for me later!
  7. You all make me laugh! My ds just left a little more than a week ago, was gone for SIX days, I had his room all cleaned up, sorted, laundry done, dusted, etc....boy, did he make a mess! He was only here for 3.5 days for his "official" high school graduation, then off he went again. Took me a good chunk of today to get it cleaned up again. However, I was SOOO happy to see him! He is planning to come again during his week break between Summer A and Summer B. Already looking forward to it. I have to get used to him being gone. I cried a lot cleaning his room.
  8. What ages/levels are these books for? My dd asks questions all the time and the ones I have seen are yet over her head. Any for littles? :bigear:
  9. That is so exciting!! I hope we can add to our family in this way as well. Looking into it now! Blessings on your journey!
  10. he did very well. We switched to Teaching Textbooks at some ppint and he sailed because there was so little review. The only other math program I tried with him was Saxon which is spiral as well, but he did not do so well. Many people complain about the amount of drill and review in Abeka, but my ds thrived with it. Every child is different! I currently own Saxon K, Abeka K, Singapore EarlyBird and am in the process of purchasing Math-U-See for my dd. We tried the Saxon and she didn't like it, Abeka she does well with, and Singapore she also enjoys. I want MUS to try it and see how she does with a hands-on program. I do much prefer something with review, so we will stick with some sort of spiral.
  11. I humbly say that me....not so much! We have schooled year-round since we started ten years ago. My schedule is simply based on life. At this point, I have two youngers and we have two homeschool park days per week. One of the days is for errands and park day, the other is for light school and park day. If something comes up, we can take off for it, or modify our day. We have lived in a variety of places due to dh's work, so our schedule has changed a lot over the years.
  12. My response is something along the lines of...."You are SOOO right! I am so very thankful that I do not have to give my children to someone else to raise, and that I have complete freedom in deciding what they are learning instead of having the government decide that for me. I am very blessed with a husband that takes care of us and that we are in agreement on how to raise our children.":tongue_smilie:
  13. When we first started hsing, my dh owned a construction company and contracted some commercial work several hours from where we lived. We did something similar, and found a local camp ground that had an Airstream for rent. The camp ground was right on a river, and we lived there for several months while dh completed this job. It was some of the best hsing we ever did! It was great to walk outside, put a pole in the water and do school. We learned a lot of science those few months and grew as a family. Some of my most fond memories are of teaching my son how to skin a catfish and how to filet a bass. Oh, those were they days!
  14. My dh agrees with this! He is an accomplished pianist and teaches our kids, nieces, and nephews. He did like this program because it holds the interest of the youngers, but it does require consistent lessons and it definitely helps if you know chords, etc.
  15. who was directly affected by 9/11 in more ways than one), I would like to thank you for thinking of this. I have saved issues of magazines and newspapers from that day for my children at some point in the future, and for myself. My dh is a disabled vet, and enlisted because of this. Sometimes it seems as though it has been forgotten or pushed aside. This is proof that it has not! :patriot:
  16. And me who is still trying to figure all of this out, even after hsing for 10 years! :D
  17. YAY, cannot hurt to try it! I tried lots and lots of stuff (including SL) with my ds. Now I know I want to do SL with my ds's, and am comfortable with that choice. Hope it works for you!
  18. Hang in there! I know how difficult these times can be (have fostered). You can do it! :grouphug:
  19. :iagree:I am all too familiar with this! My ds and I struggled for parts of this past year as we were trying to get everything done and graduate him a year early. Boy, it was difficult to get it all planned last summer, we had quite a few heated discussions. We managed to work it out with a tutor, some online classes, and very little directed by me. I hope it's a consolation to say that it worked great! He got everything completed and graduated this past Friday night, YAY! Good luck with your senior!
  20. Considering God's Creation. They really liked it and it was able to be used on a younger level than the Great Science Adventure books. He will be using it with our older dd soon.
  21. that my ds is actually GRADUATING (in a formal ceremony with a local private school) tomorrow (Friday)! I am so excited, he is my first "official" homeschool graduate! We were actually finished two weeks ago, and he started college this past Monday. But tomorrow it's OFFICIAL!! YAY! :D:D
  22. was Aldi stateside! We were in Europe several years and haven't been back long. Need to see if there is one near me! I am sure they have different things than they did overseas, but we liked a lot of things from there. Anyone been around Christmas? Do they carry all the cool various chocolate from overseas?
