  1. Behind the Beautiful Forevers -Life, Death and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katerine Boo Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster There are several others being worked at my bedside, but these are the ones I carry in my bag with me in case I have a spare moment.
  2. I was intrigued by your statement. Are you focusing on a single subject because of something you read in The Great Tradition or due to other reasons, whether personal or philosophical? Also, could you clarify your statement a little, I guess I'm not clear on what you are doing, ie putting more effort into one subject vs others, learning more about one subject vs. another, etc. Thanks for your information, you have peaked my interest.
  3. Thank you. I just got the set!

  4. :iagree: with other posters. Had the Ancient China, used it, not real impressed. It also seemed like it might be better used with an older child. There is a tiny book in each packed with information that could be found in the children's history encyclopedias and a few small projects or games that your kids may or may not be interested in.
  5. I don't think that you are the only one who doesn't like it, maybe just one of the few who has verbalized it. Let's face it, that book is on almost every reading list written. I remember reading it the first few times and thinking, why do people like this book? Although, I get the rhythmicity of the book, it always seemed boring to me personally. However, we read it many times and looking back on it, for really young kids, it is a great way to expand their memory and have a sense of reading themselves by having them finish some of the sentences. My son used to love to do this, my daughter not as much. He is a strong reader and she struggles more. I am not sure if there is any correlation, but interesting nonetheless.
  6. Thank you for this information. Sometimes hearing "do it orally" and actually putting it into practice are two different things. You have given me a lightbulb moment today by sharing how it works with your family. Thanks again,
  7. I received a classroom help magazine last month, but no DVD yet. Glad to hear someone actually received one. I was starting to get worried. Enjoy!
  8. Not to sound sappy, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this. I was planning on budgeting to go all the way to Ohio because I have always wanted to go to that huge convention. Now I am able to travel only 5 hours instead of flying or traveling 12+. This has been a lifesaver. I will be going to Memphis and it is already on the calendar so I don't forget and I have signed up for the notifications. Thanks again,
  9. If you figure this out ever, please post here. I have had the same argument with my mac for months. There are only two things I have missed ever with a PC, one is the solution to this problem and the other is having a nice built in template for labels (Avery labels, etc). Luckily, I use both so minimally that neither problem would make me go back to a PC.
  10. We have an upright freezer in addition to the tiny one on our side by side. We use it to stock up on deer meat, beef, meals made ahead (I make bulk spaghetti sauce, chili, etc), vegetables picked in season, jam and homemade bread. It saves us money in the long run because we live 20 minutes from nowhere and an hour from somewhere, so the money we save in gas to shop only a couple times a month at most has made the freezer pay for itself.
  11. We always buy Brothers and have never had a problem. They have an all in one on sale at Staples for $119. I was going to buy a new one, but that one doesn't duplex print and that is my favorite function on my mac. However, it looked like a good model. We usually have the 8000 series which does have that function, but they are also bigger in size. Good luck,
  12. :iagree: with the other posters. I did not use 1/2 books with son and I don't plan on using them with daughter. I suppose if a child just really could not get one of the books I might use the 1/2 to reinforce, but I have not come across this problem.
