  1. So sorry someone ruined your day! :grouphug: Please be sure to get your money back and to speak to the manager to let her know the sequence of events. I am sure this is not the thing to do right now when your feelings are so raw, but don't let them take advantage of you like this. By the way, I agree with this part of your siggie, "I want the house. I want the picket fence. I want the ketchup fights and the tickling, and the giggling. And LOVE IT! Hopefully you will have a better day!
  2. This entire site is great! Thanks for the tip!
  3. Well, we are going to try! Thanks for all the great advice. I am 39 and we are not ready to call it quits. I bought an ovulation kit today and read up some on the Shuttles method. Will take the 1st test in the morning. Please pray for quick success! We are hoping to have a "special" gift for everyone for Christmas!
  4. So what math are you using instead? How was it too slow? Saxxon drives me crazy, so we are using an Abeka/Singapore combo right now. Was planning to switch to R&S when we begin this in January. Were the daily lessons not enough? Would a supplement or combo work? Trying to stick to MP & SL.
  5. Depending on what they are, I usually use ebay, especially for curriculum. When buying any book, I usually check www.dealoz.com, because it compares prices all over the net and tells me which is least expensive with shipping. You may want to check there first. Good luck!
  6. Aveeno makes an oatmeal bath you can buy at Walgreens or CVS...maybe Walmart, too, but we get discounts at CVS so I tend to shop there. Then you don't have to throw away socks, lol! :D Ds had chicken pox when he was about three and this helped so very much! My dd's haven't been (and won't be) vaccinated for chicken pox, so we will probably have to deal with it someday!
  7. I don't know how old your dc are, but what about a teen that is homeschooled? Their hours are usually more flexible and they probably would not charge as much as an adult caregiver. Do you have a local homeschool group where you can put out feelers? Another suggestion, what about cleaning houses? Many people look for home help, especially around the holidays. Those hours may be a bit more flexible. Maybe cleaning offices as well? My MIL used to clean a lawyers office 2x weekly. They didn't care what time she cleaned as long as it was not during office hours. Good luck and God bless!
  8. the gender of their baby? I don't mean anything like gender selection, more like doing anything to tip the scale one way or another. I have been reading online about basal body temperature, positions, times of ovulation, etc. We are seriously contemplating another baby in the near (immediate) future, and would love to tip it to the boy side. Of course, if we get a girl that's perfectly fine as well. Any hints, advice, websites, book recommendations would be great. Some of the stuff I have been reading is so convoluted it is difficult to decipher.
  9. BTDT! He wants to know what YOU want to do because HE will be GONE, lol! My dh did the same thing....and we chose to come home. Why? Because we had already been in Europe for an extended period of time and I missed family...kids missed family...family missed us. Have you done everything you wanted to do there? Would you have regrets if you were stateside about "we didn't visit...or we didn't see... Just asking. We traveled alot, mostly all when dh was training to deploy or deployed. We did some as a family, but most without him. We all regret that now.
  10. I am the one with the family like your dh, and my dh is like yours. We have been near family, and far away. FWIW, I would love to live near my family! I would certainly make sure that school got done, but I would either have one day a week designated as family day (4-day school week) or, as others suggested, have them come in the afternoons. My MIL would absolutely love going on field trips with us!! My sister spent every single Sunday between church serviced with her MIL for years, and my mom said it was crazy, made all kinds of arguments against it....then bam, she dropped dead at 58. You never know what is going to happen. My sister regrets none of it, now her kiddos are without a very loving granny! After living overseas for several years, I am thankful we are only five hours away now, even from my nutso family. I love them (we like our own nuts, right?) and would love to see my mom weekly, dysfunctional though she (and they all) are. I love them and know one day I will miss them.
  11. 3rd edition worksheets/tests? Please explain and thanks!
  12. Where do I enter this code? Nevermind...figured it out with trial & error!
  13. I used to be somewhat of a junkie as well. One major thing that helped me was a budget. I get X amount of money in December and it has to last the entire year. The money encompasses not only curriculum, but extra-curricular activities as well. This serves a twofold purpose. One, to keep me limited so that I cannot curriculum hop (which I am trying to be determined not to do with my dd's since I think ds was my guinea pig), and the other to keep us reined in for outside activities so we are not constantly going. I have settled on a combo of SL and MP for K, which we will begin in January.
  14. Have you found the guide to be very "seasonal"? I am planning to begin this combined with Sonlight Core K after the first of the year. Is Memoria Press heavy on the holidays or could I easily work around it? I don't want to be reading loads of books on the pilgrims in February, KWIM? Thanks again, your response was very enlightening!
  15. Well, not preggo (thank you Jesus!) I wouldn't mind more children, but not.right.now!! Anyway, it does seem a little better at times, especially when I "help" her with the latch. I am going to keep trying for a few days and see if it continues to improve before I move on. Thanks for all of the advice ladies....you all are fabulous!
  16. Check the Jeanie Fulbright site as well. She provides lots more info. They are creating junior journals for all of the elementary level books. It may make it easier to combine, or to go through the book lightly with the junior journal first, then in depth as the dc get older with the regular journal. I plan to try it!
  17. Since I don't know how to quote more than one person....here goes. I honestly have no idea if I pregnant or not. We are on the "Almightly Plan" for family planning. I will buy a test today and take it in the morning. Next, I have not yet begun my cycles again, I did not start with my last dd until she was 14 months, but this one is nearly 12 months, so I suppose that is a possibility. As far as thrush, I didn't think about that, but I see nothing in her mouth. I can take a couple of antibiotics and see if it helps...after the pregnancy test of course. I have checked her latch, more than once. I am by no means an expert, but I am fairly confident in my breastfeeding skills and knowledge. I read every book I could get my hands on, went to La Leche, had mastitis (not just clogged milk ducts, but "had to go to the ER mastitis" TWICE with last dd. I am dedicated to nursing, and have no plans to wean right now. I had thought with the older dd that we would wean around one, then it stretched to two. It took me six months to wean her without her having a meltdown and me feeling horribly guilty, so we weaned at 2 1/2. I was weaning too early for both of us becase of what others thought. Now, dh and I have an understanding that he needs to verbally support me when others are critical. He is supportive and encouraging, just didn't want to offend. He now has my permission to defend and offend! :D Thanks for the advice ladies, I really appreciate it! I will let you know tomorrow if I am preggo or not.
  18. So I am nursing my youngest dd. This is not my first time, I nursed ds for a few months, and four-year-old dd until she was 2 1/2. My youngest dd that I am currently nursing will be one next month. So here is my problem. About two weeks ago, it started hurting quite a bit when she nursed. It seemed to get worse when her top two front teeth came in. I have tried to check her latch, but not having much luck. Any suggestions? My ni***es are VERY tender. She gets up some nights and nurses, especially when cutting teeth. They are getting better (the nips, not the teeth), but I only think that is because they are getting tougher, not because the situtation is any better. I mostly nurse at her request. She does not take a bottle or pacifier. I want to continue nursing, but this HURTS! Help!
  19. This is a FABULOUS idea! My dd will be one soon as well, then there is Christmas to think about! We have lots (too many) toys. My only problem with the Color Wonder stuff is that my older dd used to chew the tips off. Of course, she does not do that now, but I don't know if this dd would do the same. She loves to draw so the Magna-Doodle may be perfect! I do agree to only get the name brand, whether a small one or a larger one. We went the cheap route once, BIG mistake. I was thinking of those fat little people with crayons inside. Anyone know what they are called? Not sure if she would chew on those either?? We are planning to get her her very own doll. Her older sister is very attached to her dolls. She only has one she will share, so little dd will get her own! I did read about the Bilibo, but all the reviews said two-year-old or older, so maybe we will get that for the older dd. Listening for more suggestions. :bigear:
  20. Has anyone used this and can tell me what you liked/disliked? I read another thread but wanted to get a follow-up. I am considering beginning it after the holidays with my dd who will be five in March. We will combine with Sonlight Core K. Thanks!
  21. As prior military, I still save curtains, too! I have a good collection, and will move all of the curtains in the 3K house to the 1K apt. Never know what we may need! Dh is a DOD civvie now, so we still move. :tongue_smilie:
  22. We are downsizing, too! Ds graduated a year early and unexpectedly moved out of state for college. We now have a 3100 square foot monstronsity of a home with a stoarge shed and two-car garage for us and two girls. We are going to a 1026 square foot apartment with two 5x5 storage rooms that are free. Downsizing becuae of a potential move & to kick our Dave Ramsey plan into high gear. Praying for a tenant for our house right now. All the tips and info are great! We are keeping our piano, dh plays, taught ds and will teach dd's. It's a family heirloom, too. Just started purging yesterday for a huge yard sale next weekend. My fear is that we will not purge enough! Has anyoe dome that? We are not moving far, so will not have a moving truck to gauge what will fit in the new place. Any advice?? :bigear:
