  1. She uses several different full size tables and they all work. The height of the ball is almost the same height as my dining room chair seat. She rolls the chair between a desk she studies and a computer desk a couple of feet away. Another option for kids who need to wiggle in their chairs some to concentrate is to take a smaller exercise ball and underflate it so it only has 4 or 5 inches of air in it. This was another trick the OT told me about. You just put the deflated ball on the chair and it is more like an air cushion. Ikea also sells an chair insert like that and they have tables with telescoping legs, but I have no idea if you are close to an Ikea.
  2. That is so terrific! What a great law, and long overdue! I kind of feel bad for that male nurse, sounds like he did not want to bother you. Kuddos to you for keeping your composure and just tossing the paper gown in the seat next to you, you handled that very well. And to whoever complained, about your breastfeeding discreetly :smash:
  3. You are fine to start Easy Grammar 6. I have always just bought the Teachers Editions as they have the student worksheet on one side and the Teachers filled in answers on the other. I always just fold the answer page back and it has worked for us.
  4. My dd who is 9 has been using a ball chair for a couple of years. I find it definitely helps her to concentrate better. Her Occupational Therapist recommended this one http://www.amazon.com/Gaiam-Balance-Ball-Chair-Black/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1250636108&sr=8-1
  5. I know that there are clinics in many local public schools and even if you are a homeschooler, depending on your state, you can have them vaccinated there. We have several local privately owned Pharmacies that offer flu vaccines, and I take my children their versus our pediatrician because my children love the pharmacist and say his shots don't hurt as bad as the pediatrician. The local Pharmacy (not a big chain one) charges $20 a shot.... I would call your local health dept and some of your local non chain pharmacies and see .... My children started getting flu shots at the pharmacist when they were 5.
  6. :iagree: My father made my mom a stove like that back in the 60's (he was an electricial engineer and never ending creator of many odd things). I loved it! I actually have a Kenmore Dual Fuel Range with these features, and I love having the gas stove and the electric oven. I enjoyed the convection oven feature until it quit working:tongue_smilie: I keep meaning to get it fixed and haven't. Convection ovens are wonderful :D
  7. :grouphug: I have not read your previous posts, but are you by any chance new to homeschooling? Your post reminds me of how overwhelmed I felt at the beginning of our adventure into homeschooling. I remember being convinced I would fail my daughter in her education and she was only five :D Remember that if your feel overwhelmed, only bite off what you can and then learn along with your daughter on the subjects you are fearful of. It really will become easier, you will find your groove and not so fearful of your own inadequacies. Are there any local homeschool support groups you could join? If there are, having a mentor for the first year could really take some pressure off you. Hugs :grouphug:
  8. IEW and Easy Grammar 6 would compliment each other and be a good choice for an eleven year old.
  9. We have had ours 3 years, it has never been in a case and it has been in my purse, stuck in backpacks, carried on trips, etc... It still works great and has only an itty bitty tiny scratch on it. I never really thought of keeping it in a case to protect it.....hmmm....
  10. Everyday Math in our School District and Sue is right BLECH!!!!
  11. YEP!!!! I have been waiting on my local CVS for over a month....
  12. Hi back at you! I'm a native Texan living in Fort Worth. It seems Texas is changing so much, it is growing so rapidly that it often feels like I have moved somewhere else even though I've stayed in the same place. Texas is a great state to homeschool in for sure, I just wish the traffic was not so bad :D See y'all later:auto:
  13. My daughter has asthma and her pulmonologist keeps her on: Zyrtec daily Advair diskus 2 times a day Nasonex daily We use Xopenex if she remotely starts to feel congested. My DH has inherited COPD and they are afraid dd is on same course with her lungs so she is monitored several times a year by the pulmonologist. One thing her pulmonologist insist upon is never using any public water fountain, which is only a precaution to prevent getting sick. I hope your daughter doesn't get sick. :001_smile:
  14. Well, when you put it like that it is a bargain :D Can someone explain to me how you schedule your day with BJU DVDs?
  15. Hi Pamela, I'm glad to hear it! My oldest started with Home2Teach this week also and had her first class today with Mrs. Keables. She is also taking Fundamentals 1. I am very pleased with how the first class went! I must say that after reading the other threads that I was very nervous that I had already paid for this class, but dd enjoyed it thoroughly and I appreciate how attentive her teacher was. I know it is only one class, but it went great! I'm glad your son enjoyed his too!
  16. Me too, please send me any info. I went for almost 10 months, was up to 180 wpm when my father got seriously ill and I quit. I still have my box in the attic, all my materials, my machine (probably a dinosaur, this was 1986) I'm in Texas. I would love to do an online school and I think I could get my speed up again. Any advice?????????????????????????? I'm so excited to see this thread!
  17. I have bought two of them new and one used. I have not sold any of them yet, but I can say it is a great program however you purchase it.
  18. I love, love, love Amazon Prime! Mainly books, but then again, I buy many items cheaper from Amazon with Prime than I can pick up at Walmart or Target. I have bought everything from clothes, shoes, telephones to Irish Oatmeal...... We have had it three years and I simply love it (and I am a super cheap person, but I feel it is a true money saver!)
  19. I'm sorry you are feeling bad. I'm in the camp of believers that you can't glaze over these subjects, it is important stuff :D I know I sometimes sound like a broken record about Easy Grammar, but I feel Easy Grammar does a wonderful job of explaining the object of the preposition so easily that it is painless to learn :)
  20. Hi Debbie, We did Super Math for awhile when Dr. Jones first came over to Creative Arts in Action (now the Center for Home Education). My girls really enjoyed the classes run by Dr. Jones himself, he is a very talented teacher! They did not so much enjoy the classes run by some of his first teachers but from what I understand he has good teachers now who teach his classes. I think the program is excellent! I have seen several families who there children who have gone through the whole program and are phenomenal in math. The downside is that you as a parent have to go to every class until you understand the concept of how he teaches (he uses mnemonics) so you can help your child learn. I think it is a wonderful program, and I wish we had stuck with it for my oldest. I have several of the years currriculums in boxes (he sells the curriculum in boxes) and if you couldn't make the classes, you could watch the DVD and follow the class at home. All in all, it is a complete program.
  21. Perhaps it is just been to dry or wet in your area. Can you go for a walk and check near vacant fields, etc.... I have found when it is hot/dry they are hard to locate. When that is the case, I check dense groundcover or ivy covered areas versus looking under rocks. Happy bug hunting!
  22. My children learned using the FLL audio CD. My kids truly loved that CD, it is well worth the price. You could use Easy Grammar, it starts off with children learning the concept of prepositions and every year introduces a few more. http://www.easygrammar.com
