  1. I couldn't do that schedule, it would send me over the edge. However, that is just me, you are probably younger and have more energy than I do :D I end up feeling stressed when we have more than 3 activities outside the house a week. It does seem though that every year we get more activities, so adjustments are needed. We now do a PE class once a week versus 3 times a week, we do one instrument, versus multiple music lessons, and since I have two kids, I try and schedule each ones private music lesson one after the other. My goal is not more than two major outings a week...but I imagine that will end up changing to more. If you have the energy/resources/stamina then I say go for it :D
  2. Looks like it could also be an infection of the third eyelid, or cherry eye. I'm not sure if that happens in horses, but it certainly looks like what I have seen in dogs. Hope it gets better soon!
  3. All I can say is CONGRATULATIONS! That shows such financial maturity, you deserve a huge pat on the back!
  4. :biggrinjester: Good to see you! You have been missed!
  5. Hi there, I saw this was your first post and wanted to welcome you to the board! I love your user name, wish I had thought of it. We have some long time BJU dvd users on this board who I am sure will answer your question.
  6. I have not used it, but from all the rave reviews here, how about Latin Prep? I think that 7th grade and Latin Prep could go very well together. Those who are experts will hopefully chime in.
  7. awww, I love that Wally happily got in the trailer. May Wally bring much happiness to them and they bring happiness to Wally. :D
  8. I remember seeing this with my parents when it aired on television in the early 1970' s, so I was somewhere between 9 to 11 when I saw it. I remember laughing very hard. All I can remember is that I thought it was very funny, but I'm quite sure that the tv version was probably pretty edited in early 1970, that the version I saw was very edited compared to what I could rent today. My parents were very conservative, and I remember my father walked out on watching it, but I don't know why. My mother sat there and watched it with me and laughed. So I have no idea, if it is safe for kids or not, but apparently it didn't leave any lasting damage to me from watching it, but again, I saw an edited Sunday night tv version.:D
  9. I know nothing of the content, but I noticed them yesterday at the Homeschool Convention. I noticed them because they are so dignified looking, like the well made books from 50 years ago. I had my hands full, so I did not examine them closely, but from just looking over the table, the books themselves were so beautifully made, that is what got my attention. The bindings, and just outside of them reminded me of my mothers beloved book collections, that were so very pretty. Again, from a cosmetic view, they were very lovely, regal looking books. :)
  10. :iagree::lol::lol: I do this also, and my children are very well aware of which ones they are. My 11 year old has watched all the original series, Next Gen, and watching her way through Voyager as we speak. Next she is on to Deep Space Nine. We are most definitely a family of Trekkies here... We are probably going to see the movie, but I am not terribly excited about it. Hopefully it will be fun.
  11. Okay you ladies rock! You are making me feel better. I need to familiarize myself more with Excel and consider that. I'm such an oldie, pencil and paper kind of gal (at least I'm not a stone tablet with a mallet kind of gal;) )
  12. Mom22alyns, you are a sweet lady! I think that it is very safe to say that if your 5 year old needs a spelling program, you are very safe on the gifted board. :D I've spent my whole life wondering where I fit in :D so you aren't alone. I guess I could :lurk5: We are such a wide variety here, I don't think there is any one special group, we are as much a giant puddle of everything from A to Z homeschool wise, religious/ethnic/curriculum/food preference, etc that we all just jump in and hope for the best here ;)
  13. These are good starts, thanks! Sue, I sent you a pm!:001_smile:
  14. Audrey, LFC is not secular but pretty pretty close. I opt for secular any time I can and the only thing in LFC is that in the first chapter, there is a quote from John 1:1 (in the beginning was the word). That is the only religious reference that I can think of at all in the LFC A. HTH
  15. I love LFC! We bought it early on and then it was revised and we bought the revisions. They are awesome to deal with and it is a very good program that has chosen to correct its early mistakes and not ignore like some programs have.
  16. I am looking for advice on how to organize my homsechool schedule. I have basically done it by hand, printing out calendars and filling them in. I see those of you who have your lovely spreadsheets, etc. I would like to be more organized and efficient. If anyone would like to add their suggestions, I think it could help others to be more organized with their schedules. So if you have a favorite way, a favorite program, a favorite book on organization, scheduling ,please let me know!
  17. We have used both, the old version as well as the new Mastery version. My kids like them and I thought they were really good. They would certainly be a change of pace from Sequential Spelling and I think your kids would like it for a change.
  18. At the public school I used to volunteer at, they used them for both teaching and for review. It seemed that many students had difficulty with figuring out the concept of the string, and once they had that down, did enjoy them. I have not used them with my oldest, but think I might with my 9 year old. In addition to being used at home, since they are so portable you could carry them along in the car, etc
  19. :iagree: We do this, works wonderfully on straight, curly and dry hair in our gang. :001_smile:
  20. You definitely can use the CD's only for 5 & 6. We have both and the workbooks have not been needed at all. I have not thought to use it the other way around, with just the workbook and not use the CD's. I would assume you could do that. Is there a particular reason you wouldn't want to use the CD's?
  21. Oh, that makes me sick. DH kept bees for years, and we had them up until two years ago and finally sold the last 4 hives off. DH has MS so it left me with the beekeeping. I'm not very knowledgable compared to him, but we would go and get people's swarms for free as he didn't want any bees harmed. I can't believe someone told you bees don't go into someone's house when it is hot, of course they do if there hive is there. All they need is one tiny crack to start a colony. If they have a hive and it is hot, they move outside the hive to cool themselves (and sometimes do that cool little dance/bee shuffle thing). To those who have bees and want them removed and can't find someone, try posting on Craigslist that you have bees and want them removed. You could possibly find someone that way.
  22. I preregistered and my oldest just loves the Arlington Book Fair so we are still planning on attending. However, as the conditions can/are changing rapidly in regards to the spread of the flu, we are going to wait until Thursday night/Friday morning to make our final decision on whether to go.
  23. Don't die of embarassement, I think that people aren't commenting because they don't know what to say. However, I know this board, and lots of the people (like myself) always have something to say :D Life happens, and no matter how scared he was, you need to reassure yourself first and remember you did nothing wrong. Mom, you did nothing wrong, you were in your bedroom with your husband, with the door closed! I have an 11 year old myself, who is easily traumatized and has anxiety issues. She does panic when she figures out our bedroom door is locked. I have had to explain to her that Moms and Dads need alone time, that parents need special time together, it is okay. I think you or maybe dh, need to sit down and have a talk with ds about how sex within marriage is a wonderful thing, and you are very sorry he heard something and panicked, but that he needs to understand that it was that great love you have for each other that helped create him. I remember hearing my parents when I was 12, I was embarrased but my parents were not the type to talk to me about anything. I think having a communication so he understands that while this was embarrasing to him, it was not something to be ashamed of, love within marriage is a good thing. Hang in there mom!
  24. :iagree: Here is a :grouphug: and I am with you, the simple things do matter. Towing a large family around for the waterpark is quite silly given you have the beach....in Hawaii! I would be drooling at that prospect myself. I am so burned out and I have just two. I have sliced and chopped off all extra activities, and it is not because I'm afraid of the swine flu, I'm exhausted! I'm exhausted because I didn't say no to people and joined certain activities. Those activities have concluded and I"m not going to do that next year. :glare: Be glad you have your priorities right...you are a good mom!
  25. That I don't know, but don't forget you can buy it from Peacehillpress (the link is at the top of all WTM boards). It is a tiny bit more expensive than Amazon, but is probably nice to buy from PHP if you can. They obviously have it in stock :D
