  1. Absolutely! The eggs have protein (no need to worry about Salmonella:D) If all else fails, I found chocolate to be a serious help for bad school days.;)
  2. It is also used in Calverts 4th grade program. I love the book, so did my kids. I must say the first few chapters were not the best, but it improves and is a great book.
  3. And this is why I love this board! I read the problem, then saw Cynthia's explanation and a little light went off in my head and I understood it. I just love this board. :D
  4. That sounds like good advice. My husband has a type of inherited COPD so he gets pneumonia every year. Bleck!
  5. I wondered about this too after the fact. In fact, my daughters pediatrician was miffed about it. The Emergency room dr said that they would only give with a positive test result. I am so glad my husband Dr. did prescribe Relenza, it quickened his symptoms but even with the Relenza he still got pneumonia after a week into it and had to go on a heavy duty antiobiotic. I don't think this flu is anything to play around with.
  6. Ah, I like that answer...dithering. That is exactly how I feel about it, one minute I think yes, one minute no. Still there is time to decide since there is no vaccination here for us yet.
  7. I'll just chime in here as I have posted this before. Both my dd woke up one morning 3 1/2 weeks ago with 101 fever, by 3 hours later it was 104. We took oldest (underlying health conditions, asthma, etc) dd who is 11 into emergency room at Childrens Hospital in Fort Worth. She tested negative for flu but Dr. was not convinced as she talked about false negatives and fact daughter had only been sick less than 5 hours when test was taken. She proceeded as it was H1N1 as she had seen over 500 cases in that small emergency clinic in past week. She did not recommend Tamiflu and said even if she did recommend it, would only give it if we had a positive and then it would be my decision. So we went home and told to monitor her closely, start nebulizer every 4 hours, etc. DD#1 proceeded to get sicker, dd#2 proceeded to get better, DH (has MS, and very bad lungs but never a smoker) got sick on Wednesday (3 days after girls) and he was immediately prescibed Relenza by his Dr upon going in. I got a very high fever, sore throat and chills for one day but felt achy for almost 2 weeks and could just barely plug along. I did the heavy dose Vitamin D for 3 days on everyone plus the girls and I took Elderberry. I've never used many herbs on the girls, but Elderberry was amazing in how it helped my oldest who got very very ill with it. She started getting better on day 7 (day 3 to 5 were bad) and it was a full two weeks before she was back to normal. I just want to say that my girls got their Seasonal Flu shot exactly 5 days before they got sick. I got my shot on a Friday and showed symtoms 4 days after my shot. I take a flu shot every year and never get symptoms from them. I do not know if it is coincidence, or if getting seasonal flu shot made us more prone to getting the virus. I am not sure if we had it or not, but my daughters pediatrician says definitely yes and so does our Primary care dr. I'll take it that it was H1N1 as it presented like it (the emergency room dr. said it looked like a duck and quacked like a duck so it was probably a duck) I don't know about taking the shot. I normally wouldn't but given my husbands health and how sick my older dd got, it really worried me. Hornblower are you taking the shot?
  8. I LOVE my LG Front Loader and it is 6 years old and works great, never had a musty/moldy day in its entire life. I will say the boot (that is the rubber ring) has a tear and I am going to fix it myself so I have been doing alot of research on how to fix etc and I am amazed at how many people who have purchased front loaders have mold problems. It is not just LG, it is many of the major brands.... I know that LG changed their models configuration the year after I bought mine, and mine has never had a problem. Friends with same model never had a problem (it is the LG WM0532) but I see many with other models complaining of same thing as commenter above. I would really do your research, even within brand names, one model may be wonderful and another model by same manufacturer is a problem. As the one poster stated, research research research. I have found the laundry forum at Garden WEb to be one of the best sources for feedback on laundry, buying a washer, etc. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/laundry/
  9. Ditto! I don't have anyone on my ignore list by the way, but certainly not you if I did have one.:D
  10. I hope you find peace in your decision, either way. I think so often I second guess myself, doubting myself, etc, so I can understand many of your feelings. I have the feeling if you keep her home she will do well, and if you put her in the school she will do well, but that drive, I just couldn't do that myself. I hope you are able to make a decision you feel good about.
  11. :iagree: I don't scrapbook, and as a matter of fact, any type of craft runs away in terror of me. I'm terribly untalented. ;) I do believe that you could make this system. I'm trying to remember which one of dh wood working supply magazines sells these componenents. Love the simplicity and organization of it. If I could only get DH to talk with an accent like that guy  Off to find out how to build one.
  12. Thanks Profmom, that is helpful information. I was wanting this co-op to be free also. I was wanting to start it to encourage my own children as well give them some added companionship. I would love to do Latin and writing. I am willing to teach and hoping to get some other moms to do the same. I have only done co-ops in the setting of me paying for my kids to attend with someone else teaching. I have never done anything like this and I"m wanting it to be real teaching, real learning...not something for the kids just to play. I am a bit nervous that "free" will be taken to be "drop your kids off and run" :glare: which I don't want. I wish I had more co-op experience so I can plan this to run smoothly.:001_smile:
  13. I'm thinking of doing a small co-op in the Spring with a few other moms. This is not something fancy, just a small once a week, or maybe every other week. I have thought about doing a Science class, and have several science curriculums. I thought that Real Science 4 kids Chemistry could be fun. Has anyone done this as a co-op, and if so, how and how long did it take? If anyone has any suggestions or ideas how I can make a small co-op (less than 10 kids) that is run by 3 moms to be effective, please let me know. Thanks!
  14. Wow, after reading your clarification I would say this lady was way out of line. I hope she starts to show the degree of maturity that your son has showed.
  15. I tend to agree with the above. If the adult is in a mentor position, then she would want to mentor the child. I do think face to face would have been much better. If this is strictly a teacher teaching a class, then I think this is over the top.
  16. Thanks guys! My daughter commented that when the little boy was in the hospital and his father comes in, and Dr. Bryce is sitting by the boy, Dr. Bryce says that Dr. Beneford will be in in the morning to see him. Then Mr. Simka says "I'll wait for her" How did he know Dr. Beneford was a her? Dr. Bryce didn't say it was a her...
  17. Oh, I bet you are right about Agent Noh. Which one is Lloyd Simka???
  18. What a great story! I love that he was so quickly helped, definitely a different world from the one I know. :)
  19. We watched it last night! Wow, it was good. I must say that this is the first TV show I have actually watched in numerous years. I believe the last series I watched was "Mad About You" so that should tell you something. What fun to watch a show again..
  20. Pamela, could that wall be previously painted in an oil based paint, versus a latex. If it was oil, the latex won't stick. If that is not the case, I would think that you need to clean the wall again, traces of something may be on it. YOu could use a TSP wash to get any residue off... Can you try the paint on a different surface and see if it works well? How about painting some old poster boards or something and see. If the paint works on other surfaces it is the wall. If it is the wall, you need to clean and prime it before painting it. If it is the paint, take it back to where you got it and have them replace it. Hope this helps
  21. Yes, and it was my single favorite thing I have bought for homeschooling my kids in the past 5 years. Clkick on the Peace Hills press site on logo at top of page and you find it there. It is the best $12 I ever spent.
  22. I was a regular TMobile customer for years, spending $90 a month on a family plan and I never used my minutes. I switched 3 1/2 years ago to the prepaid Tmobile and it is wonderful. I buy the $100 upfront which is 1000 minutes and good for one year, if at end of year you have not used the minutes, add at least $10 and they are good for another year. DD has had the same 1000 minutes for 3 1/2 so it has cost me $120 for 40 months for her, making her service $3.00 a month, not bad.
