  1. I once tried that back years ago during the Bush/Kerry campaign. I really had an innocent heart and wanted to learn from the opposing side. I posted my question in a kind manner and at first it went well. The beginning posts were informational, interesting, and kind, but it all went downhill fast!! I don't know how many old timers we have here, but they might remember the boards being closed for 2 days!!! Was it 2? Something like that! :tongue_smilie: So if your question is too flammable, it will probably explode even with the best of intentions. I do like the idea of posting it in a kind tone and then asking for pm's. That might work. GL!!
  2. I haven't read the other responses, but from glancing at a few titles, I can tell that I'll be in the minority here..............but here it goes anyway. I'm more of the line of thinking, "good for that mom". There's no reason to sit by and watch some other kid hurting your ds. Why wouldn't she say anything??!??!? And if your ds felt bad because of it.....GOOD. Maybe that's what he needs. Someone needs to tell him that he can't do that. How else is he suppose to learn? Or do you want this type of behavior from him to continue? Nowhere in your post do you mention talking to him about his poor behavior. You should have made him walk over and apologize and talk to him about never doing that again!! I'm ducking out now. We all have different parenting sytles, and I thought I'd share the view of the 'other'. If that were my ds that did that, he would be in sooooooooooo much trouble and I would have apologized to the mom and my ds would apologize to the kid.
  3. My dd had a bandaid on for only 10 hours in a sensitive skin area. After she pulled the bandaid off, she didn't notice that a sliver of the end of it remained. We didn't notice until much later (about 2 1/2 days) and couldn't get it off. We've tried oils of various types, rubbing alcohol, and even goo gone. When we rub, scrape, poke etc.... it just starts to bleed around it. The actual area of the piece of bandaid is now lower than the skin level and seems to be completely part of the skin now. Anyone ever had such a crazy thing happen????
  4. :iagree: plus have the blood test check all the standard levels.
  5. We're planning to visit soon, but I just can't decide the best hotel to stay at along the Riverwalk. Each one claims to be in the "best location" etc.... Even from reviews, it seems hard to pick. Anyone here have a recommendation? Pretend cost doesn't matter - just the best place/location. :bigear:
  6. What do you do to reheat a cup of tea? I can see how to get by without a microwave for everything else....just not my large cup of tea that I seem to reheat all day long. :bigear:
  7. I'm pretty sure that I saw a 20/20 episode (or something similar) awhile back telling parents not to use these places. I don't remember the details, but I do remember making a mental note to never allow it. So just last week when looking for a new dentist, I too kept running into this same problem......no children past the age of 3 allowed to have a parent. That's nuts!! Anyway, after looking around, I did find a very nice place with a good rep AND an open door policy.
  8. If I send him, I will claim this yr as 8th grade and just send him as a freshman next year not sending him with any credits. Do you get a choice? I thought ps school just goes by their b-day and not much else? As far as your question goes: Yes, I would consider it. I'm in a similar situation. I don't want to give up hs'ing, but I have to acknowledge that the ps high school that we live by is fantastic. Bottom line, I can't do a better job. sooooo, we are now getting ready to blend in and join the ps system. As much as I have loved being with my dc, for me, the ultimate goal is to have them as prepped for college as I can. In this case, it will be via the ps system.
  9. Oh, it just depends on which news source you're willing to believe. Now when I saw the story on Fox, they were saying that there wasn't any fall at all, but when I switched over to CNN, they said the fall was massive and that it could be the work of a "serial pusher"! Me? I'm usually in the middle somewhere, so I believe that he probably just fell by accident. ;)
  10. When in Kindergarten I was tested and knew a lot of words that rhymed with "bear", after that I was in the gifted program. Does that count?? lol To this day, I can still perform at that amazing level!! ;)
  11. :iagree: If it helps, I completely agree with you. I have noooooooooo idea why all the responses coming up with information that the op didn't even say. Like throwing in the word "alleged" etc when it comes to the invalid will. Goodness. If we just take the op's original word and assume she isn't being lied to, then the g'ma didn't intend to give her anything. geesh. It's that simple. Now if the family is making that up and swindling her - well, that's a different story. Also, I can't understand why all of the "entitlement" posts. Interesting insite to the differences in humans I guess. That lady could have left it all to her cat for anyone should care, and just because one of us would do it differently, doesn't mean it's what should happen.
  12. Eight years now. Wow. I posted a lot more on the old boards, but got too caught up in it all. I took a break for awhile and now try to limit how much I participate. It can be a bit addictive here! ;)
  13. Wills are intended to show what the person *wanted* to happen to their money. Fair or not, it doesn't matter. If the grandma wanted her money to go to the 3 children and not her granddaughter, then that's what should happen. In this case, there's a technicality and her actual wishes aren't going to be granted. I think I'd take the 1/4 of a 1/4 and be grateful for the unexpected bonus. Bottom line is that you're just taking money that the person who died didn't want you to have. That would make me very uneasy - no matter how hard I tried to justify it. That's my 2 cents, but then I'm always a bit too practical on matters.
  14. and btw, I exercise on the treadmill because I prefer to exercise while watching a favorite show. It passes time better for me, plus I'm such an introvert that I really don't want to power walk around my neighborhood - even if the fresh air might be nice. I never take it to a run because of a bad knee. At most when feeling energetic and fit, I power walk at a 4.1. Also, I like to "mix it up" a bit when I'm on there. I might push to 4.0 or so for as long as I can stand it, then back off to 3.0 to recover, then finish at a constant 3.7 etc.... I feel differently on a daily basis, so I just go by how I feel. Last night I wasn't feeling so great, but went on anyway at only 3.3 - 3.5 for just 20 min. It's better than nothing. I hope this helps some.... Oh, and if you're thinking of adding this to lose weight, it works and is enough. I lost 30 pounds last summer and this is the only exercise I did. I walk on my treadmill about every other day is all.
