  1. While she was really hard on her daughter, she knew something was wrong. I think I would have a hard time if I were in her place as well. I think people are being just a tad harsh about it. She realized that she had a problem with her attitude towards her DD and worked at fixing it. Admitting something like that takes guts. You have to admire that. She seems like she has a good relationship with her DD now. Maybe we should cut her some slack. But for the grace of God, there go I.
  2. I think it's ridiculous and would not pay extra. I'd also make a big deal about it to the manager, but that's probably why my DH gets embarrassed. LOL :tongue_smilie:
  3. My parents had 3 children. I have 5 children. My sister has 2 children. My brother has none. So, 10 total.
  4. Thanks for all the replies! It helps me a lot, since I want to be fair. :001_smile:
  5. I have never paid a babysitter before. We have always had family watch our kids. This time we are splitting the kids. Boys are going to my inlaws and my niece (14 years old) will be watching the 2 girls (ages 7 and 3) at our house. We will be gone from around 5:15 til 10 or so. The girls bedtime is 8, so after that she would just be hanging out til I get home and then I will take her home. So, my question is how much would you pay in this situation? My niece just got her babysitting certificate. My sister told me to just pay her whatever I thought was appropriate. Problem is, I don't know what is appropriate!:001_huh: Help! Thanks! :001_smile:
  6. Like others have said, you can resale the more expensive ones. For this last baby I bought prefold seconds from Little Lions on sale. I got 4 dozen diapers for less than $40 shipped. Then I got a few Snappis and 5 Econobum one size diapers covers ($5 each on clearance). So I invested about $70 total for diapers that will last until he is probably 7-8 months before I need to get the bigger size prefolds. Then I will look for more seconds and spend maybe another $50. So $120 for diapers until potty training as opposed to lots of $$ for disposables. Then I can either sell the prefolds (which are much easier to launder) or use them as dust rags. Either way, the cloth is much cheaper. However, I do still use disposables at night or on trips. Just easier. Good luck with your decision! :001_smile:
  7. :iagree: This is exactly what I would have done. In general, my kids don't get things while we are in the stores. If I say they can have something, I am very specific about it and don't budge. Sometimes I will give them a choice of anything on a certain rack (all the same price). But, in general, they don't get stuff because I don't want them always thinking that they get something every time we go anywhere. They know that if they misbehave, their chances of anything special will automatically disappear. It doesn't always quell all misbehavior, but it certainly helps. You must be consistent. Don't argue or conjole. If she doesn't obey, don't let it escalate. Simply leave. I don't just walk away from certain kids because they would just let me leave and then I would look like a fool coming back to get them. My oldest DD and DS this would work for, but not my 5 and 3 year old. Can you say stubborn? :tongue_smilie: I just pick them up and leave. Stick them in a cart or the stroller and go. I need to get them in a controlled environment or my blood pressure skyrockets. Once we are back at the van I can let them scream it out or whatever, but they are not disturbing others and they are safe. If she is too big for you to carry, take a cart with you around the store just in case you need it. Then you can get her to the door in a hurry. Good luck! :grouphug:
  8. It was no big deal to see my mom undressed, but never my dad. When kids of the opposite gender reach about 6 years old or so we cover up in front of them.
  9. :iagree: This is what I think. The prevalence of food allergies is scary and I don't want to be responsible for something bad happening.
  10. Oh my! I shudder thinking about it! Praying that it heals quickly! :grouphug:
  11. I think 200 is cheap. And I would definitely require chores. No one gets out of chores when they live on their own. I might charge a bit more as to make living at home not as desirable as living on one's own. You don't want them to be like my brother, living at home when he's 30 and blowing all his money on fast food and movies because my parents pay for everything! Can you tell that frustrates me? :tongue_smilie: But seriously, don't let them mooch! It can become a lifelong habit, and that is not doing them any favors.
  12. I homeschool on principle, because I don't want my kids taught the things taught in ps and I don't want them around those influences. That said, if I were insanely wealthy and could afford to put 5 kids in private Christian school, I would. But, I am not insanely wealthy, so hs it is! :001_smile:
  13. Thanks! I appreciate your help! :001_smile:
  14. I am planning on using MFW ECC for my 2nd and 4th grader next year. I have been looking at used curriculum, but people want so much for it, that by the time I buy the consumables and the used non consumables, I may as well just buy it new. So, I was wondering if anyone knows if MFW ever runs specials or sales? This will be our first year using MFW. Thanks! :001_smile:
