  1. We are dropping PLL. Maybe we will go with FLL since I already have it. I am looking into phonics programs for my 2nd grade DD. Right now it's a toss up between R&S and Abeka. She likes workbooks. :001_smile:
  2. Yeah, my kids (especially the boys) think panties/underwear are optional. Ummm, no! :tongue_smilie:
  3. My kids love the Scrambled States game. They ask to play it all the time!
  4. We owned a beagle. I have vowed never again! Much barking, much chewing, difficult to potty train, very stubborn. But, she was cute as all get out! My kids loved her and she loved them. In the end, it was the potty training issue that I could not deal with. We also crate trained her and she was in obedience training from a tiny puppy, and she was not our first dog. We rehomed her with a nice lady. I loved our Australian shepherd! We have a boxer now. She is great with the kids, but super hyper!
  5. Thank you everyone for your input! :001_smile:
  6. I do quite a bit. There are many words and phrases I don't want my kids to say. My 5 year old especially will get all riled up if I read a word they aren't supposed to say, like stupid, so I just skip it or change it.
  7. My second son is 5 now and we will be doing kindergarten in the fall. I am very torn about what to use, so I thought maybe you ladies could help me decide. :001_smile: I am using MFW ECC for my older 2 (9 and 7). I also have a 3 yr old and a 7 month old. This child (DS5) does not know his letters or numbers and is just starting to show interest in learning them. He is also a strong personality. So, my choices are using MFW K (I already have the manual as it was given to me by a friend.), Connections Academy, or K12. I like that MFW is gentle and Christ focused. Connections has many additional online resources and ds loves playing computer games and responds well to that. I have heard really good things about K12's phonics program. I also have Sing, Spell, Read, and Write but it says it is for ages 6-8, so I don't know if it would be too old for him. This would be the first child I will be responsible for teaching to read. My older 2 went to school for K and first. I have to be honest, teaching a child to read is intimidating to me. I have no problem teaching anything else, but this area kind of scares me. So, what would you choose? Thank you so much for your help! :001_smile:
  8. I like that you can check out ebook from the library with the Nook. I don't usually read books more than once so I use the library almost exclusively.
  9. I must say, this is a VERY entertaining thread! LOL
  10. A few thoughts. None of my kids are adopted, so I don't have that issue, but several of them are clingy in different ways. My DD7 will not be in a room alone, ever. She will not go to the bathroom by herself or stay in her room alone. If her sister (3) goes out of the room at bedtime she calls for her or tattles that Sarah is out of bed. This all stemmed from the neighbor boy telling her about poisonous spiders and what could happen if you are bitten. I have taken to bribing her with chocolate chips if she goes to the bathroom by herself. I am hoping she will grow out of it. All that to say that rewards may help. My DS5 is also clingy but in a different way. He will not spend the night at his grandparents. If I leave to go to the store or his dad and I go out he cries when we leave him with family. He comes to our bed every night. He is always hugging and touching me. As he gets older he is getting better about it. I am considering sending him to school for K to help him overcome these issues. So, time may help. My youngest is 6 months and very attached to me. Cries for me, watches me all the time. None of my others were like this as a baby, so it's new territory for me. I guess I will see how this one plays out. I hope things get better for for your DS as he grows. My best advice is a rewards system to help him maintain some distance. Maybe let him sit next to you, but not on your lap except for certain times. Give a small treat for staying put until you get back, etc... Good luck!
  11. I sure hope not! Internet and data plans are expensive and the only thing that makes them worth it is that they are unlimited.
