  1. Guess I'm confused as to why this was weird. I shared a story I knew of a young boy preoccupied with TEA and it turned out to be a success story after counseling. Oh well, my ds is ony 6 an is very modest so I don't have any experience with this.
  2. :iagree: I'm still horrible about laundry an putting away clean clothes. Let's say is genetic, but in almost 40 yrs I've never had a dream walk-in closet so maybe I'd be different if I did. Bathroom: clean it once and get her a supply basket IN the bathroom and tell her every morning wipe down, once a week toilet. If she showers daily she can spray down the shower.
  3. What parts are distracting? The Homily? The rest is one long commnity prayer and so beautiful.
  4. Some years are just bad. Try to focus on the skill subjects getting done and unschool the rest.
  5. I have a friend whose son has been VERY aware of women an their bodies from a young age. His father was also this way. He also had poblems with excessive master$&@%#^. They enlisted a Christian counselor and with lots of work helped him gain self-control and understand this objectified women. He has sisters who he loves dearly and he is an AMAZING sweet youngteen who still has to monitor himself. My friend's 18 yr old niece was staying with them this summer and she made sure to remind her to dress modestly. Sometimes, for some people visual stimulation is very overwhelming. This seems like an issue of self-control and you will have to play a huge part in his overcoming this temptation. He is not sexually deviant...yet. Left unchecked this could be a big problem for him.
  6. SC here. I join the homeschool assoc. annually and they do the reporting. I reported PASS for K-2 b/c I think grades in the early years are silly. I grade only to know if they retained the info. This past year we CAT tested and I turned in her scores. We will test annually just to have the record if we ever enroll in school.
  7. Yes, disaster WILL strike, if I plan. I use a lot of open and go materials like R&S grammar, WWE, Visual Latin, and Explorations Science. My dd does science and latin after lunch and in the mornings we do math, grammar, writing, reading, and handwriting. She also does R & S geography which is open and go. Basically we try to get these done: Math 5 lessons WWE-week of lessons Grammar-3/4 lessons Science- 3 lessons Latin- 3 lessons Geography-2 lessons We do living history with book, projects, field trips and several spines. We listen to SOTW.
  8. W/D combined with charting and occasional condom.
  9. Our church has a Reformation Party, celebrating the Protestant Reformation. The kids get candy and can dress-up, but it's not a Halloween party.
  10. :grouphug: 11 yr old girls are tough. Dd isn't there yet and I hope it's not too bad b/c my 6 yr old is giving me a run for my money already.
  11. I would hire a carpenter to do a half type door on his bedroom and make it safe and friendly, but put him on lockdown. That and maybe some daycare or a mother's helper.:grouphug: I would be employing drastic measure because I'm visual too and that kind of chaos would drive me crazy.
  12. I think his wife should have been prosecuted as well.
  13. Right. I'm pretty ADD and not at all spacey. Our babysitter had "quiet" seizures as a teen and they affected her memory quite a bit. Hope you find out what's up. Forgetting what happened 5minutes ago or where you are isn't normal,
  14. Good advice already: Don't mention 2-3 good day stuff Puke on her! You need a pump of this stuff! :grouphug: and good luck!
  15. Tanya, first off :grouphug: Cancer sucks. I don't know what causes it because for every thing you might do to prevent it it still can hit you. I breastfed for 7 years straight. I'm now pg with number 4 and will BF for another 2 yrs. I've never taken bcp and have eaten organic meats and dairy for 10 years. I'm ramping up my exercise as I get ready to hit 40. Do I think I'm immune to ANY cancers? No way. I'm going to do these things because they give me piece of mind and are healthy and will benefit me in the long run. I don't know God's plan and I may not like it, but I'll have to deal with it. Kudos to you for handling it with such grace.
  16. Wow, I got a completely different view. This is an abusive, neglectful, narcissistic, parent. I feel for the OP b/c unfortunately there is much she can do, but let the child know she can have a place to go if need be. Unfortunately this behavior will be transferred onto the 4 yr old once the 11 yr old is able to break away:(
  17. They have to or they would have nothing to do. We don't do video games except for long trips and they get one to two movies a week which happen on the weekend.
  18. Sorry, but since there are as many single homeschoolers, kudos to you for pulling it off, I did not assume the OP was single since she posted "we."
  19. No offense, really, I waited tables for years and if need be, I'd grab a couple of evening shifts when dh was available for kids. Also the op is talking about extras vs. saving for retirement, not putting food on the table. I pay about $375-400 a month for activities, if we couldn't find that money in my dh's income I would make it. It's just what "I" would do and maybe the op hadn' thought of that is all.
  20. I agree with cutting back on the littles. My ds in 1st does WWE, SOTW cd's and books, MM1, OPTGR, reading practice, and handwriting. This takes about 2 hrs. Last year in Kndy about 1. I don't do preschool, either they go to preschool or pick it up as we go.
  21. Honestly, if we couldn't afford extras I would get a job part-time to pay for it. I'm not saying you should do this, just what I would do.
  22. We have ballet 3x, soccer 2x and piano. Nothing happens until 4, well except piano on Fridays at 2:15. Oops dd2 has preschool from 8:30 to noon, but dh takes her. We school from 8:30-11:30 and from 1-2. I rest, clean-up, shower, dinner prep from 2-4 except on Wed when I clean more, do laundry, etc.
