  1. You might consider another cooking time saver if you can get to the library. Check out books on once a week cooking. They're filled with great ideas like...Cook a big roast on the weekend and then eat different meals off it during the week. Day 1 roast day 2 shredded bbq sandwiches day 3 meat over rice day 4 stir fry day 5 beef stew or soup
  2. I feel so sad for the young man. I agree about checking with the school and helping him find the most comfortable way of dealing with the accidents. For night time, consider double sheeting the bed with a wet barrier between the sets; it would make for easier changes. A discrete designated laundry bin with a closed top might also help with the embarrassment. I hope the doc can help; I image this is a pretty big burden to an 11 year old.
  3. From Fix-It and Forget-It Lightly Zucchini-Vegetable Pot 1/2 lb ground turkey 2 cups zucchini, diced 2 ribs celery, chopped 1/4 cup green bell pepper, chopped 1 large onion, chopped 2 large tomatoes, chopped 1/4 cup rice uncooked 3/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp garlic salt 1/8 tsp nutmeg 1/4 black pepper 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Brown turkey in skillet. In sauce pan cook lentils in water. Bring to boil and simmer 10 minutes. Combine remaining ingredients (Except vinegar) in crock pot, add lentils and mix well. Cook 8-10 hours or until lentils are soft. Add vinegar just before serving. Allow 1/2 cup filling for each sandwich. Disclaimer...I don't really eat meat, but the guys do here and I almost never actually follow a recipe. I've used the above recipes, but tweaked or substituted them to fit what I had on hand at the time.
  4. What does your family eat or not eat now. (Are your vegetarians, meat eaters or food allergies etc.?) I like the cookbooks from Fix it and Forget It for crock-pot meals. They're pretty simple, fast and for moms with no time. Lots of libraries carry them.
  5. I haven't read the books either, so no comment on the content. If this went against our rules, there would be a loss of privileges as punishment. Expect a bit of push back, teens are very tech savvy and many will help their friends out when a parent puts down limits. (Imo fwiw, 13 is pretty young to me, she'll need lots of love and monitoring.)
  6. Just wanted to add after pondering this; I have a problem serving children Cheerwine.
  7. Thank you MercyA. I am trying to avoid all artificial sweetners and many food dyes here as well. A list makes it so much easier.
  8. It's wonderful! I'm quoting and saving it for reference, and I've added a few brandnames.
  9. Bump. Yes, I know the they are the same thing, but unfortunately the non-name-brand goes by a number of other things on packages. I'm looking for a list of all artificial sweeteners; I so wish I'd saved the link or list from the board.
  10. I don't like the policy either. I found out about the policy, when attempting to check a reserve on a Teaching Company DVD.
  11. :iagree: with Chuckie, check with the doctor. :grouphug: You're working very hard, and I hope you start to see those results very soon.
  12. We have a huge library and three smaller branches here in our city. No special treatment or exceptions for home school families or teachers. (They do allow public school teachers to check out a book for the school year.) Sadly, I've paid more than my fair share of $fines over the years. We do have on-line reserve and renewal for all library patrons.
  13. Does anyone remember the list of the different names for aspartame or nutrasweet (as well as other artificial sweeteners) in drinks and foods. I've done a board search and a google, but I'm not getting a list. I'd be happy to compile a list is any of you have names of them. I'm also interested in different reactions anyone has had to going off diet sweeteners. I need something other than my memory for a family member.
  14. Nodding my head in agreement with those who stated your dh is 100% responsible. He can apologize (in person) to the teachers, but your ds was just doing what his dad directed him to do.
  15. :grouphug: Praying for a good diagnosis and very good solution / care.
  16. I voted just for me, but our household has just about every option mentioned. I read most things on my ereader with e ink; it is simply the easiest on my eyes. My second choice is large print book in good or new condition. We also have a Kindle-fire, and two ipads; they are the choice of reading for the rest of the family. I like both for some things, but not any real reading. We also have a nooktablet, and another regular kindle; both were gifts and are seldom used anymore,
  17. I don't have personal experience, but one of my dearest friends had to enroll her two (dd/senior and ds freshman) a few years ago due to a divorce. They both had a period of adjustment, but things did settle in after the first semester. I hope the adjustment period is short and smooth for the two of you.
  18. Oh, I wish I had some answers or a direction to point you in, but I can pray for the two of you.
  19. Rose, I hope and pray all goes well with your family.
  20. I've experienced a number of adults who value bullying...Now, they will put anti and no-bullying policies into place, but they will over look and minimize what a child is suffering without batting an eye.
  21. I wouldn't want to burden the kids with the adult problems, and yes I'd allow them to spend time with their dad. Just love them and allow them to have as much love as they can while they are young. They will grow, mature and come to grips with the truth of the situation soon enough.
