  1. This thread is so funny, thank you everyone. I needed a tear inducing laugh. The doll head, butt bank and good-gracious... thong from FIL nearly had me on the floor.
  2. History: (The Well Trained Mind) Science: The Rainbow LLATL and (The Well Trained Mind) Math: Saxon Wordly Wise
  3. Saxon starts out each grade with review, that can be so easy for many students. It will pick up, peek ahead to lesson 80, it won't take that long to get going, but it may help seeing the direction. You can always have him take the tests and find a good place to start in the text.
  4. My oldest took a class this year. I wanted an introductory course that she could gain experience in participating in an on-line class, and follow through with a different criteria of editing, deadlines, and formatting requirements. Imo, it was a good experience, and what was expected didn't overwhelm her schedule. She did enjoy it, loved the teacher, and learned to pay close attention to directions, deadlines, MLA formatting, editing and paper revisions. I'll have my ds take at least one course with them too, because I felt it was a good experience over all. While it wasn't what I'd call a rigorous class, the accountability to another teacher with strict deadlines was worth the time and money.
  5. I'm happy if they eat and enjoy what's prepared. Verbal grumbling and complaints would not be welcomed.
  6. Thanks for the link. PS...That video was pretty shocking.
  7. I'm not allowed to give blood, due to living in Germany.
  8. That's pretty cute, I might steal the idea. Wait, I mean you've inspired me.
  9. Thank you both for the info. I know we will be buying an e-reader of some kind in the not so distant future, but I'm not giving up my love of real books.
  10. Hmmm, you might try reminding him to look closely at each problem, and even use a highlighter to mark + or - for a while as a visual cue.
  11. I'm coming to believe there must be a pre- premenopausal stage, and that the change can take many years. My pms symptoms are so much more noticeable (I can't ignore them) but I don't want to try anything that may lead to other complications later and prolong the end of my periods. My mother was very happy when her cycles were over, and I hope to feel the same. I do wish there was some way not feel the overall tiredness and irritation with ding-dongs.
  12. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm a book lover and just can't bring myself to consider a little screen version. My eyes also prefer a good quality, and most screens give me a glare headache. One day I may change, but for now I love the library, real book stores and trips to Half-priced books for trade-ins. My husband would use one at work and on his travels, but I can see him spending a lot more money too.
  13. We've used (are using) both the Saxon Teacher cd rom and DIVE cd roms here. They can be a valuable teaching resource. What kind of trouble is he encountering. I'll second sitting and working with him, if you aren't to find out why he is struggling.
  14. Does your dd have a preference, and does she thrive under either style?
  15. If you can't settle yourself on it, donate or sell it, and get the other one.
