  1. I am going to guess that my fence is around 85'x110x85x110 (minus the house) with one drive-through and one regular gate. Our fence is 6 feet tall, black, metal fencing. It was right around $10K, installed 2 years ago.
  2. Evidently, this is for only the top 500 medications? I have been unable to obtain the migraine medication I mentioned above, Sumatriptan (generic Imitrex) in autoinjector form. I have asked/called numerous pharmacies. One pharmacist finally told me this list is only for the top 500 meds which at least explains why it isn't showing up. This was a Costco pharmacist and he stated he only had one other patient utilizing this med which I was surprised, but I guess explains why it isn't a widely used medication.
  3. We might need to keep a running thread since this has been such an issue for months (longer?). Sumatriptan injections have been back ordered for months. If this is something you need they are available in vials instead of autoinjectors if you are willing to use needles instead of the autoinjector pens.
  4. Seriously, how do you know this to be true? I've read this thread with interest. I was a 'kid' of 19 when I acquired a new 'stepmom' after losing MY mom the year before. I just will absolutely never understand a parent who will choose a new partner over their own children. Who does that???? She may be 19 but she is a child! You may not have told every single fact but you have certainly told enough and her father is wrong. He needs to be doing everything possible to salvage this relationship because he is the adult, he is the father. And you do NOT know everything that has transpired. And the stepmother is NOT her parent at all so none of that is relevant. She needs to take herself out of the equation altogether. Geez, stay out of other people's lives.
  5. This is where style of hearing aids is important. I would really recommend the small ones that fit over your ear and a small tube that goes down into your ear. Some have the 'speaker' at the end of the tube inside your ear, avoid that (receiver in the canal)! You would have issues with wax on the speaker and possible kill the speaker. If you had all the components in the small part above your ear it would be the most durable. The small tube in your ear could easily be cleaned if it became plugged with wax. This is what I have on my own daughter as it is the most durable and lasts the longest. For a severe hearing loss one generally will have to go with a larger hearing aid behind the ear and and actual ear mold inside the ear, but the first style works well for mild to moderate losses.
  6. My german shepherd has eaten numerous pairs of my glasses, and remote controls. I'm sure it is the same thing, he smells my hands on them. Fortunately we did not have this dog when my older daughter, who has the hearing aid, lived at home. She is old enough now not to leave it laying around when she is here. Although I frequently see the kids AirPods laying on the couches and not in the cases, he hasn't eaten them yet!
  7. This is known as a CROS hearing aid. It is usually 50/50 if a patient likes it as an adult. We, and many other places will offer a 100% refund if you do not like or want to keep the hearing aids during your trial period (30 or 45 days) so if you ever decide to do so, find someone that will offer a 100% refund. Ordering them is really not a big deal, they call the company and they arrive in a few days. But yes, it will take you a few visits for fitting, and optimizing during this trial period and your willingness to give them a try. BTW, I no longer practice so am certainly not trying to sell you anything LOL. Just educate.
  8. PSA: Dogs LOVE hearing aids. Please make sure you are keeping your hearing aids out of reach of your dogs. I can't tell you the number hearing aids that have been eaten by my patient's dogs. I think it is a combination of them smelling their owners on them, and occasionally from leaving the hearing aids on/batteries engaged and the dogs hear a high pitched whine coming from the hearing aids. Most hearing aids come with a one year loss and damage policy from the manufacture. Ask your audiologist about purchasing a 2nd and 3rd year if you are more prone to issues.
  9. RE: Unilateral hearing loss. Like any hearing loss there can be different levels. Often we will find a 'dead' ear, with essentially no usuable hearing so in that case, no a traditional hearing aid on that ear will be of no benefit (although there is something called a CROS hearing aid that transmits to the other hearing ear, but will avoid that discussion for now). Many individuals have just a partial hearing loss in one ear that is helped greatly from a hearing aid, such as my daughter. One of the tests that should be performed during any routine hearing test is speech discrimination in quiet. This is the test where they have you repeat a series of one syllable words back to them at a comfortable hearing level for you. If you miss most of the words, it is usually an indicator that your success with amplification might be limited. "Most" patients will at least score 50-100% on this test, but if they score 0-20% or so, then they need to be really counseled that although a hearing aid might give them an awareness of sound, it will have limited benefit of understanding speech, even in quiet situations. Note: This is NOT an auditory processing test.
  10. I see a neurologist and his PA for everything. The PA handles just about everything except for my Botox injections which the neurologist does himself. If you have more than a migraine every few months, I would see a neurologist.
  11. Growing up, our house was known to be the hang out. My friends would regularly just walk right in looking for me, no matter the time. I had one friend, quite the character, that still reminds me of the time he walked in on my parents 🤣 So nope, none of us kids walked in on our parents but one of my best friends did!
  12. Nurtec is part of the CGRP inhibitor group of medications. Some are a daily preventative, some are taken as a monthly injection and some are taken once a migraine begins. I was on Aimovig, which is one of the monthly injections and it worked extremely well for me. Nurtec can be used either daily as a preventative or as needed for migraine attacks, so it is one of the few that can be used both ways. I have been using the Botox for migraine injections every three months for so many years I have lost count. Unfortunately, even though the combination of Botox and the monthly Aimovig CGRP works the best for me (keeping my migraines to about 2 a month), most insurances, including my current one, will not cover both at the same time. Imitrex (sumatriptan) injections are about the only thing that works for me when I have a breakthrough migraine. It is often just a long trial process to figure out what works best for each person and may change over time. I'm about 40 years into my migraine history and found this combination about 5 years ago. Currently fighting with my insurance company now trying to get them to cover the Aimovig again. Non Inclusive Migraine treatments: Monthly CRGP preventative injections: Aimovig, Emgality, Ajovy Daily CRGP preventatives: Nurtec, Qulipta, CRGP pills for attacks: Nurtec, Ubrelvy Preventative Injections every three months: Botox for migraines (about 32 injections in head and neck) Pills , Nasal sprays, and injections for attacks: Triptans (Imitrex/Sumatriptan), Maxalt Other daily medications that are often tried to prevent/reduce migraine days: Topamax (anti-seizure), beta blockers such as inderal, anti-depressants,
  13. Previous audiologist here. Phonak hearing aids were always one of my favorite brands. I'm glad you are doing so well. As others have indicated, unfortunately, in the US, most insurance does not cover hearing aids, although coverage is much better than it was 10-20 years ago. My advice to patients was always to get the best hearing aids they could comfortably afford but they should never be a hardship. Fortunately, they have improved so much over the last couple of decades too, so they are not anything like what your parents wore. The style you describe, small ones that sit behind your ear with a thin tube that goes down into your ear, also tend to be the most durable, and for women, hide so well in our hair they really aren't noticeable.
  14. Just saw this thread... Maybe it will spur me to go back down in my craft room. I have so many things I would like to do, just haven't been motivated at all.
  15. 12 hour flight? Heck yeah. That is a long time to be stuck next to someone that talks nonstop or just a million other things that can be annoying.... One can put up with inconveniences fairly easily for 2 hours, but 12???
  16. I have had chronic migraines since age 16. They have fluctuated from a best of about 2 days a month to a worse of 20+ days a month. Across my adulthood, I would say I have about 6 a month. I was really hoping they would go away after menopause, no such luck. Botox has kept them to the current 4-6 a month, when I was on insurance that allowed Botox AND monthly Aimovig (similar class as Nurtec), I was around 2 a month. In the first years after college I was working a demanding job with 1-3 children. I just HAD to do it, no other option. I was regularly taking imitrex multiple days a month. I worked for a large group of physicians that would do anything to keep me at work so 2-3 days a week they would have a nurse give me a large shot of phenergan at lunch time to knock me out and sleep off that days migraine instead of eating lunch and I would somehow get through the rest of the day. Fortunately after about 20 years I was finally able to leave my career to focus on my youngest. We do what we have to do, but it sure makes life easier when we can take care of ourselves too.
  17. My daughter and I took a road trip to Chicago a week ago. We had a fantastic time. We were the typical tourists but we just dove right in. Yes, we saw some homeless and panhandlers but just kept walking and did not feel unsafe at all. The only 'rule' we followed was to be in our hotel by dark. We stayed right downtown on the river. We took buses, the 'el', the subway, one Uber and even a pedicab. Due to the distance from our hotel, we did drive to/from the Museum of Science and Industry (my absolute favorite!!). We have never had or use mass transit when we live. I realized it had been about 18 years since I had last visited Chicago as I had taken my older two children to visit before but my youngest had never been.
  18. My university did not have a 'great' place to put my field, which is an allied health field so they put us in the education department. To my knowledge, we are the only one that has a B.Ed and Masters in Education (M.ED), now entry level is a professional doctorate. None of us have ever had difficulty obtaining jobs with our 'eduction' degrees. Edited: Only ones in our field with a M.Ed.
  19. I saw that some insurance formularies have changed today June 1, to allowing Mounjaro, or not requiring a PA as it has been out a year. So everyone, if you couldn't get it before, check your med formularies today.
  20. I have not had Wegovy in a good while so I do not have a box to see an expiration date but my Mounjaro boxes do not expire for quite some time. If I use the contents of one pen over 3-4 weeks or 21-28 days, and keep it refrigerated during that time, I feel very comfortable doing so. I am not seeing a decrease in effectiveness. Additionally, I did have a good bit of nausea each step of the way up, but have had zero nausea or symptoms since decreasing my dosage. Lastly, there have now been several reports and maybe even studies of these medications helping with addictive behaviors as well as possible cancer fighting benefits. Obesity is a chronic disease, it is time it is treated as such instead of just telling patients to exercise more and eat less. I feel so much better and my quality of life has improved greatly. I am looking forward to being the parent and eventual grandparent I know I can be. Before my weight was holding me back. My children's grandparents were never healthy from a variety of things including obesity, diabetes, heart disease and strokes so for some of those reasons were never really involved with them. Won't it be great to hopefully break that cycle?
  21. I have been on Wegovy and then Mounjaro for about a year. I have lost 70 pounds. My insurance last year covered Wegovy, changed insurance and this one covers Mounjaro, no questions asked. This is not medical advise... I plan to stay on this. What I am doing to keep a supply: I get the 15 mg but I only take about 5 mg now each week for maintenance. I take the 15 mg pen and "inject" it into a sterile vial I purchased on Amazon. I then draw out 5 mg worth using a syringe and just inject that. Then I get 3 weeks worth with 1 pen. By doing this I have survived during shortages and hopefully have a backup supply should I have insurance issues down the road. Plus a smaller dose is working for me for maintenance. Obviously you have to know what you are doing and feel comfortable doing your own injections.
  22. My daughter used to swim with a team where one of the NSYNC member's brought his child for lessons. I've never been a celebrity stalker so i looked them up and I'm pretty sure I remember which one it was but I ignored him unlike the rest of the people there.
  23. How do you learn best? I don't do as well with videos as with a book. I have a book for AI and I just work through the tutorials although I do use Youtube also. I just find myself having to rewind frequently.
  24. We bought our son a used 4 runner as his vehicle moons ago when he was in high school. It was a very nice vehicle. We also have had 2 Toyota Tundras that we put some serious miles on and were still going strong when we sold them. We bought our middle child a new 4Runner as we knew it was a great vehicle and would last her many, many years. I don't think you can go wrong with a Toyota quality wise.
